Dear _,

I live in Pakistan-a country destroying itself with bombs, guns and

governments' blabber to find justifications for what it is going through;a

country where a former president is murdered in public, where the nation's

constitution and parliament are suspended at the same time, and where the voice

of a common man is unheard.

Since the last few years, I had aspired to become a doctor. The idea of

"scalpels," "opened chests" and "sutures" had always intrigued me.And then it

happened! The recent unprecedented events in my country wiped off the dust of

disillusionment from my eyes;I lost my will to become a doctor. However, the

turmoil in the country led me towards newspapers and news channels, and hence

Politics.

As I involved myself into politics,I realized that it is

all-embracive-wielding its way over social and economic life-it is the

omnipotent of Pakistan. It can mobilize public opinion, gear up propaganda

machinery, make or repeal laws and what not.Backed up by public opinion, supported

by the majority of the legislators, armed with the means to keep the people in a

state of ignorance, political power crosses the limits of dictatorial

powers.Political power, like the most powerful intoxicant, makes the persons in

power to forget social ethics, political morality and obligations.

Most of the learned youth in this country consider Politics to be "a refuge

for the scoundrels" and this derogatory remark may be true if we look at the

deceptive and degenerated type of politicians indulging in a dirty game. All

these political parties are votaries of democracy, but the way they conduct

themselves inside their own parties is nothing but senseless

authoritarianism. Therefore a very few students choose to pursue Politics as a

profession, but what they don't realize is that if we don't take a stand the

system can never be changed. Thus,I want to study Politics so I can come back to

my country and contribute what little I can do for my homeland and its people. If

I can inspire even a single person,it would be worth it.The world today is

growing global. We are now not only to think of our own nation but as and when we

think of it,we have to keep the international perception in mind;consequently,I

chose Politics with International Relations as one of my courses.

Studying in UK will breed a sense of individuality and self reliance.I would

be able to interact with people from everywhere and get to know about their

culture. This would not only open new horizons for me,but would also clear some

preconceived notions one has about the other.I have always been an active

participant of debates.I have participated in 3 Model UN conferences out of

which I was awarded with the Best Delegate award in two. I was also one of the

two students to be selected from my school to participate in the English

Speaking Union '08.Moreover, I've taken part in Parliamentary style debates

too. Therefore I believe I can communicate effectively in public and language

will not be a barrier in my education.Furthermore, I have worked as an internee

at Al-Shifa Eye Hospital for a month in summers. Here I learnt how to deal with

patients, use the Auto Ref, handle files and punctuality. We also campaigned to a

remote area near Murree where we helped the doctors in examining the patients

free of cost.Another experience which taught me a lot was when me and my fellow

colleagues volunteered to paint walls for the SOS Children's Village. In

addition,I worked with SUNGI (NGO) where a group of 5 of us had to organize an

event to pay tribute to 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I enjoy Literature,especially the works of Shakespeare,Tennessee

Williams,Thomas Hardy and Andrew Marvell.I'd be delighted to study in a

challenging atmosphere where I can focus on my studies.I commit to my work and

my ability to think out of the box, keenness for Politics and my perception of

things,I understand, gives me an edge over others.I believe in myself, and if

provided with an opportunity,I'd make the university proud.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

I got my very first glimpse into law by watching my father, my hero, a

Ph.D. of law and now the Chinese ambassador to Barbados. I have been inspired by

his work as an international lawyer and a career diplomat while growing up. For

many years, I have been preparing myself through academic and extra-curriculum

activities, hoping that I can make a difference for the world. I believe

pursuing the Master’s degree in Law at Cornell University will assist me in

striving towards the goal.

With my dedication and my parent’s unconditional support, I successfully

entered the …… University, one of the top law schools in China for legal

education. I have explored a wide range of different law theories in the Civil

Law field and had an opportunity to work on logical writing. It has been these

years of study at …… University that has enlightened me and laid a solid

foundation for my legal career.

In addition, I have also participated in various extra-curricular

activities. As class monitor, the head of the Information Department in Student

Committee, and the head of Research Department in our college, I am entrusted

with many responsibilities. My leadership skills and organizational abilities

have been greatly enhanced. Through various volunteer experiences, I have had

more opportunities to help the under-privileged. All of these extracurricular

activities are integral parts of a multiple legal education and have contributed

to my professional growth.

Amid my strenuous study, I had an opportunity to participate in the

American Legal System Study Program summer of my sophomore year and I was

exposed to the great American culture. I engaged in an internship program at

Michigan District Court, where I followed Judge ……. It was a great opportunity

for me to see how the courts operate in the United States. The differences

between the US and China legal systems provoked my curiosity. I was eager to

explore how to ensure substantive justice in a case while following due process

and how to apply precedents to different situations. I went on my second

exchange study-abroad program to ……University fall of 2012 and participated in

their LL.M. program. During this exchange study period, the issue of how to

balance crime control and protection of human rights perplexed me. From then on,

the thought of completing the LL.M. program in Cornell Law School, a school with

unsurpassed legal education, has propelled me.

As a part of my degree, I interned at different legal departments. I was

very fortunate to have an opportunity to intern at the Beijing office of ……. By

involving myself in cases such as security offerings by Chinese corporate

issuers and US security class actions against China-based companies listed on US

stock exchanges, I became more aware of how a practicing lawyer gets involved in

international trades. I researched on whether some foreign statutes are

effective and I participated in legal work and preliminary drafting of research

reports. It was the first time that I felt like I was making a contribution to

society as lawyer. I sought for other internship opportunities to elevate my

professionalism after my experience at ……. At Beijing …..People's Court, I

learned the trial procedures in the Chinese court. Through drafting, imputing

and proofreading legal documents, I have become more familiarized with the

writing process and became more able to write with greater accuracy. The

internship at Beijing …… Law Firm brought my overall abilities into full

practice. From filing a marriage case, collecting evidences, putting it on trial

to settling it, I participated in the whole process. With my sight set on more

challenges, I would like to deepen my legal skills and be equipped for

international experiences. To that end, pursuing an LL.M. at Cornell Law School

seems to be the best option.

I believe that pursuing an LL.M. at Cornell University would provide me

with the necessary foundation to understand the nuances and intricacies of

different legal systems, and help me add an international perspective. I am most

interested in taking courses at Cornell Law School such as International and

Foreign Legal Research and International Law and Foreign Direct Investment, as

well as being an active member of the Briggs Society of International Law. As

one of the Ivy League universities, Cornell University combines outstanding,

preeminent faculty with a diverse and talented student body. I would like to

attend various special lectures and activities Cornell Law School offers to

supplement the core curriculum. Completing the Cornell Law School’s LL.M.

program will bring me to the next phase of my professional career.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

I intend to continue the study of History at university. As a subject I

have been interested in since childhood, I enjoy studying the past and how it

has shaped our future. The study of History allows us to view the mistakes and

successes of the past and employ them to the future. a??History is a guide to

navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we

are. (McCullough) History allows society to form an identity and to advance

through learned tolerance and understanding.Last year in AS History I studied he

unification of Italy which was key in my understanding of history. It was

fascinating to explore how Italy came together as one country from several

states and to discuss whether Italy would have formed alone or whether in

required to push from those such as Garibaldi or Cavour.

Having spent many years studying modern history and decided to take it upon

myself to expand my knowledge into ancient history. Earlier this year I read a

book called Cleopatra by Lucy Hughes- Hallet. It was interesting to read about

such a famous and influential woman of history from another womans perspective.

Often Cleopatra is portrayed as femme fatale- as in the portrait by John William

Waterhouse or Shakespeare who said a??other women cloy the appetites they feed:

but she makes hungry, where most she satisfies.

She is often seen by historians as a seductive, potentially poisonous

temptress, however this is not necessarily how Hughes-Hallet interprets her; to

her she is plainer, more ambitious and less cruel. I think it is difficult to

separate fact from fiction when it comes to ancient history and especially in

this case someone as constantly redesigned as Cleopatra.

History has taught me to make substantiated judgments and to interpret and

analyse external material as well as my own opinions. I find History intriguing

because it gives me the opportunity to study the development of human society

over a long-term. My inquisitive mind has further contributed to my enthusiasm

for the subject and I enjoy working independently. But all three of my subjects

have honed my writing skills, to be able to select and organise knowledge and

communicate it coherently and concisely. More specifically, Sociology has been

helpful in discerning social trends, and understanding something of the human

psyche; and English Literature allows me to study works, in context. All these

skills will enable me to read History at university.

I enjoy visiting museums and monuments of history when I have the

opportunity. I particularly love the trench experience at the Imperial War

Museum and more ancient history- such as the ancient human occupation of Britain

- at the National History Museum.

I work well within a team, but also have the necessary attributes to lead

if I am called upon, demonstrated in my active participation in my school's

Charities Committee for the past six years, organising various charity events

throughout the school. My work as secretary of the Charities Committee allows me

to represent the school in the community and has taught me management and

organisation skills. In school I have also been a keen participant in the

orchestra in which I am lead violinist in school and also play for the borough.

I have been involved in several school plays either back stage, in the orchestra

or as part of the cast. I have also been involved in numerous school sports

teams, including the netball and athletics teams. I am a naturally cheerful

person who has a positive outlook on life, but with the maturity necessary for

university, and as such, I feel that I am fully prepared for the academic step

up to degree level. I greatly anticipating the opportunity not only to go to

university, but specifically to read History as I know it will provide me with

vital life skills, as well as giving me access to a potentially wide and varied

career within the specialty.

Yours sincerely,

UNIVERSITY大部分专业申请都需要SAT2成绩,除了COLLEGE OF GENERAL STUDIES和COLLEGE OF FINE

Dear _,

Hehe...this is the latest version, edited last night with help of a

critical friend! Much better :)

In everyday life, people take for granted that some people are good at

things and some people are not. But I have always believed that human beings are

capable of far more than they realise. It is this interest in human potential

that motivates me to want to work as an Educational Psychologist.

I have always had an interest in the human mind, but never considered

working in this field. However, personal experience of ADHD and autism led me to

volunteer at an autistic unit in a local primary school, which I have now been

at for almost two years. Whilst there, I realised that my interest in the

Autistic Spectrum and ADHD was more than a passing curiosity. My experience at

the school provided me with a deeper understanding of these conditions, and,

combined with my interests in educational psychology and technologies such as

entrainment and biofeedback, led me to consider the potential application of

these to assist such children in reaching their full potential. One day I

returned home with a sense of exhiliration, and realised that helping autistic

children was something that I wanted to pursue as a professional

psychologist.

I have also worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant at a local college.

My duties included creating certificates, writing course manuals, and supervised

teaching. In addition, I was comissioned by the charity DYCF to teach relaxation

techniques to "difficult teens" as part of a remedial programme, and wrote a

report of recommendation. This demonstrates that I am able to empathise and

interact with a variety of people in a range of educational settings, as well as

cope with a high workload.

I spent some time researching careers in psychology and it was quite clear

that Educational Psychology was the route for me. Although I had studied

Counselling Skills in --- and DD100: Introduction to the Social Sciences

previously with the Open University, it was of course a case of preparing myself

for Higher Education. So in 2008 I enrolled on DSE212: Exploring Psychology,

with the Open University. My overall assesment score on DD100 had been 81, but

of course it has been a while since my last formal academic study. Hence I was

pleased to receive my first essay back from the Open University ----, scored at

83, giving much promise for my future studies.

At the same time, however, I have worked hard to overcome my difficulty

with mathematics. So I enrolled on GCSE Mathematics: Foundation. I recently used

accelerated learning protocols such as mnemonics and entrainment to learn my

timestables in just under two weeks, and have also enrolled on a second course

for extra help. Because of this, I am now confident of achieving a grade C in

Mathematics, and believe that this demonstrates my committed and creative

approach to learning, as well as my practical application of psychological

research.

I read psychological articles and reports in New Scientist, Scientific

American, and Psychology Today. I also keep up to date by researching psychology

online, and have a particular interest in the research of the HeartMath and

Monroe Institutes, and the application of their research and technology within

education and therapy. My latest read has been Human Givens: a new approach to

emotional health and clear thinking, by Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell (20_).

Having a keen analytical mind as well as a deep empathy for working with

children, I look forward to continuing my study of Psychology. My ultimate aim

is to apply psychological techniques to help the autistic and ADHD populations

achieve their full potential, and hopefully add to and expand the current

theoretical understanding of these conditions.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen

建筑与室内设计学院:这个专业里面,一般要求的分数是A水准(ABC/BBB),IB(28分),SAT(1140分)。

Dear_,

Studying Sports Science at Advanced Level has confirmed that a sports

related career is the path I would love to follow. At GCSE, I was able to gain

an in-depth understanding of not only the physical side of PE, but also the

theory, which has now been developed by my A level studies. The theory aspect of

PE appeals to me greatly, as it aids my understanding for successful personal

competition and explains how some elite performers have an additional edge to go

on to win major competitions. Achieving this success takes two mains

characteristics into consideration, the physiological element of sport and also

the psychological side. Due to these qualities I decided that Biology and

Psychology would complement my understanding of Sports Science. In these

additional studies, I have furthered my knowledge of complicated processes such

as the mechanism of the heart and brain, and applied it to my Sports Science

knowledge, giving me a more comprehensive understanding of a topic

In 1996, I joined Ipswich Harriers Athletics Club and discovered my passion

and talent for throwing the javelin. Since then it has become more than just a

hobby; I have pursued the sport, participating in events initially for my club,

and more recently for the County. I have consistently been County Champion and

attended English Schools this year, not for the first time. I was also offered

the chance to compete at an international level for Northern Ireland, but

unfortunately had a serious back injury at the time, which has since recovered.

I am hoping that next season the opportunity to compete at this level will arise

again to help me develop my sporting career

For the past two and a half years I have been working at Anglia Indoor Kart

Racing. Once again, this enables me to incorporate another sport I enjoy into my

time. Throughout my time here I have become more experienced, beginning as a

track marshal and now regularly race directing and training new staff. My race

directing involves having the confidence to brief a large group of people about

the running of each meeting and certain safety measures. The job also entails me

commentating on the race, controlling the computer, directing the marshals and

taking responsibly for my colleagues and the customers. I am a trusted member of

the team and often handle money in the café. I am also very reliable, always

being punctual

Throughout my time at school I have been keen to help promote it. To do

this I have helped at Open Evenings, and have aided less able pupils with their

reading on a one-to-one basis. I found this very rewarding and satisfying.

Another experience that I thoroughly enjoy is assisting in Lower School PE

lessons. This gives me the opportunity to observe teaching methods, and work

with small groups of children of mixed abilities to improve their skills and

confidence

Besides promoting the school in a social manner I upheld its reputation in

its sporting successes. This included captaining the basketball and athletics

teams and playing for the football, cricket, badminton and volleyball teams.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen
