to represent the conflict of ideas. he suggested that people protect the wall as

a valuable relic while tearing down the “intangible walls” of their minds that

prevent communication. while some other students are more focusing on the impact

of globalization on family relations, attitudes towards love, and

job-hunting.

over the past 10 years, the national english speaking competition has given

contestants a chance to speak on a variety of topics closely related to their

lives. chinese students become more open-minded and receive various ideas and

thinking over the decade. diversity becomes more obvious on campus, students

have more opportunities to express and show themselves. it’s not an easy task

for the contestants to win through the fierce competition. owning to their

passion, hard work and persistence, they finally succeeded in the contest.

liu xin, the first champion of the national contest, is now an anchorperson

of cctv-9. recalling the passion of study on campus, she said: “when you want to

express your idea by a foreign language without finding a right way, you’re

really upset. then you have to encourage yourself, and after a long term of

bitterness, suddenly you find you get the right way with joy.” with the champion

title in 21st century cup, liu attended the international public speaking

competition in london in may 1996 afterward and got the first prize

historically.the winner in __ surprised the audience, since she came from

accounting major instead of english major. gu qiubei, then 22 years old, was a

senior in shanghai foreign studies university. while being asked whether she had

some good methods to learn english, she said: “learn english with passion and

enthusiasm.” attracted by the greatness of english language, gu even changed her

major from accounting to english in her postgraduate study. the most important

issue in english learning process she pointed out is personal interests. only

people interested in english benefit a lot from the learning methods and those

with passion will finally achieve their dreams.

when chief of global media giant viacom sumner redstone gave a speech in

tsinghua university on his autobiography a passion to win, he was asked what

made him to restart his career at the age of 60, the 81-year-old media tycoon

said: “firstly, there’s a self-driving force in my deep heart, which keeps my

passion to succeed and surpass others; secondly, i don’t think i’m too old to

leave work, actually i love my work very much.”

some of the contestants have achieved their dreams as redstone; still

others are on the way to their dream. with a passion to win, you will overcome

obstacles and succeed at the end.

i’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls. people who visit my

city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted

against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks. the old, cracked bricks are

covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for

centuries.

our ancestors liked to build walls. they built walls in beijing, xi’an,

nanjing and many other cities, and they built the great wall, which snakes

across half our country. they built walls to protect against enemies and evil

spirits. this tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and

schools walled off from the public.

for a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to

me.

my perceptions, however, changed after i made a hiking trip to the eastern

suburbs of my city. my classmates and i were walking with some foreign students.

as we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which

formed a wide canopy above our heads. suddenly one foreign student asked me,

“where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”

“we’re already in the eastern suburbs,” i replied. he seemed taken aback,

“i thought you chinese had walls for everything.” his remark set off a heated

debate. at one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while i insisted

that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in china that had no

walls.that debate had no winners, but i did learn a lot from this student. for

instance, he told me that some major universities like oxford and cambridge were

not surrounded by walls. i have to admit that we do have many walls in china,

and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether

they are physical or intangible. we will keep some walls but tear down those

that impede our development.

let me give another example.

a year ago, when i was working on a term paper, i needed a book on business

law and found a copy in the law school library. however, the librarian coldly

rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “you can’t borrow this book, you’re

not a student here.” in the end, i had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy.

meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf.

at the beginning of this semester, i heard that my university had started

to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other

universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated. barriers would be replaced

by bridges. an inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any

library. with globalization and china integrated into the world, i believe many

of these intangible walls will be knocked down.

i know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say

whether it is good or bad. but one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to

china’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the

modern world.

and how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? should we tear

them down? definitely not. my city, like beijing and other cities, is actually

making a great effort to preserve the walls. these walls attract historians,

archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and

cultural heritage. walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the

world. if the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would

be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. they are now

bridges that link east and west, south and north, and all countries of the

world. our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

life is a process of growing up. saying goodbye to childhood, we step into

another important time of life‘the youth’.however, who can really say what the

youth is ? a period of time? a belief? an attitude to life? or anything else? we

对吸烟的行为也是如此，有想试试看的心情，看到成年人叼着香烟，火光一闪闪的吐出白烟的姿态，觉得好不自在，以为吸烟可能有着无穷的乐趣。我们正处在生长发育时期，各生理系统、器官都尚未成熟，吸多了烟就会感到精力不集中，甚至出现头痛、头昏现象。久之，大脑就要受到损害，使思维变得迟钝，记忆力减退。这样，必然会影响学习和工作，使学习成绩下降。

心中有阴霾时，我们可以多参加体育活动，在运动场上畅快淋漓的拼搏，享受运动的快乐，宣泄不良情绪，能够达到消除心理紧张，放松身心，调节心理状态的目的。

All the celebrations welcoming the new century were hold in the year

2000,because life without a greeting is like the sky without the sun.Greetings

are very important for the whole world,in my opinion.

But I don't know whether greetings are enough for us.Especially when we

meet with failures .I remember quite clearly that when I was a child,if I fall

down and was on the brink of crying,my father always told me"Please stand up

from where you fall down!"

Yes,we must stand up from where we fall down.

That was a special mid night in 1993.Expectations filled our hearts.

We stared at the TV,hoping excitedly as the voice would fly to our

ears.

But at last,each Chinese who loves our motherland was distressed to know

the ,lost to Sydeny by a margin of two votes in the Olympic hosting

competition.

Eight years have past,but the frustration has not healed with time at

all.

Now,at the begining of the new millennium,all of the pride and

disappointment of the 20th century had gone with the wind. The 21st

century,which is full of hope,longing znd thought has come. Someone said,we

would start from zero on.

Should I really start from zero on?

No!I hold that we should go on with our efferts and ambitions stayed by

last century,and make our life better.

"New Beijing,Great Olympics!" The voice cries this out around China's

captital,a 3,000 -year-old city these days.

Beijing,along with Paris,Istanbul,Osake and Toronto,has been shortlisted by

the International Olympic Committee as an official candidate city for the 2008

Olympic Games.

This is Beijing's second attempt to host the games.

Everyone fully supports Beijing's bid for it.

Maybe,we can paint fences along the main roads of Beijing.

Maybe,we can make much of yhe city cleaned up.

Maybe,we can learn and speak basic English idioms and expressions for daily

communication.

But,but are they just enough?

Facing the new century,mankind is driven by the revolution of science and

technoiogy,world economy is undergoing broud and profound changes. But nobody

can deny the fact that compared with developed nations,developing countries are

confronted with more pressure and challenges.In order to become famous in the

world,we must speed up our international economic restructuring to catch up with

industrialized nations.

Supporting Beijing's bid is a systematic project that can support

China'sdevelopment efforts.

I believe recycled paper,clean fuel,sorted rubbish,water-saving and

enery-efficient facilities will become reality in the coming years for

China.

I believe the new century is an era of learning ans teaching,and lifelong

education has become one of the main trends in the future developmet of Chinese

society.

I believe that,on July 13,our dream of Beijing's Olympic bid will become

true.

Because to millions of Chinese,for China to have the gloal respect and

不用多久昔日我们曾挥洒青春，熟悉的现在，都将改变。昨天所有的荣誉，慢慢变成遥远的回忆。可我们从未在这改变中迷失了方向。因为我们是国际人，我们有共同的文化认同，我们恪守着国际人“熔铸教育，享受教育”的信念;我们遵守着国际人“尚德，敬业，爱生，乐教”的行为准则;我们每个国际学子都在“明礼，好学，慎思，笃行”的学风中成人成才。

心里的热情正一天一天的消减，不能再让心跳的如此平静了，只有激情才能让心跳的有节凑，只有激情的跳动，心才能一直保持活力，只有那样，我们才活的有意。80后、70后和我们的父母都道出我们活的荒。唐，活的不顾一切。但是我们却认为青春荒。唐才不负青春。

在我的青春里，我挣扎过，犹豫过，但更多的是同伴的努力让人奋起，推动我奋斗，推动我向上。看着一些朋友混日子，浪费时间，我犹豫了。我也是一天到晚看着一些人喝醉吃喝玩乐而动摇的。每当我犹豫不决的时候，我就会想起水稻之父袁隆平的奋斗之路，这是他反复的实验。

奋斗的青春是一首美妙的曲子；苦苦挣扎。青春是一幅自己动手的水墨山水画。奋斗的青春是一盘棋。只有不断的思考和探索，才会有斗争的胜利。

亲爱的老师、同学们：

青春，要用什么色彩来描绘才最绚烂?要如何绽放才最美丽?要怎样度过才最无悔?95年前，为了驱赶黑暗争取光明，一群意气风发的青年用热血和对祖国的拳拳赤子之情谱写了一曲最壮丽的青春之歌，绘就了一幅最宏伟的青春图画。如今，“五四”运动已作为光辉的一页载入了中华民族的史册，“五四”精神始终激励着我们一代又一代的中国青年。

我的青春，融进了甜蜜芳香的教育事业;我绚丽多彩的教育青春，正用自己心灵之弦在奏响。永远记得那个丁香花飘落的季节，我的人生拉开了最美的帷幕，在短短的教学工作中，苦中作乐却也品到了做教师的感动与幸福，我幸福，因为我有我的学生们，感谢他们的每句话、每个微笑;感谢他们每一个鼓励的眼神，每一次勇敢的举手;感谢他们给我的自信，让我信心百倍的站在讲台上;喜欢让他们和我一起学、一起乐、一起“疯”，喜欢听孩子问：“老师，您喜欢我吗?”当然喜欢，每个孩子都是我的宝贝。慢慢地，孩子们长大了;渐渐地，我也长大了，那些点点滴滴的感动和幸福，让我深切体会到，原来，教育的快乐就在于我停下脚步俯下身子的那一瞬间，就是那一瞬间，把我初为人师时的茫然无助扫得荡然无存。记得那年，我像往常一样早早地来到教室自习，让我惊奇的是，平时调皮的学生那天读书特别自觉，当我在教室巡视走到一个男孩身边时，他捧给我个苹果，用稚嫩的声音说：“老师，今天是你的节日。妈妈说苹果代表平安，我送给你一个苹果”，短短的一句话让我看到了孩子那颗纯真的童心，紧接着，很多同学都纷纷捧出自己简单又朴实的礼物，争先恐后地说：“老师，节日快乐。一瞬间，我仿佛在他们身上看到了天使的翅膀。我接受了孩子们真诚的祝福，觉得此刻自己幸福又温暖。不知道他们是否记得那个苹果和那个教师节，但它确实让我坚定

了信念，把青春奉献给孩子，奉献给三尺讲台，也终于明白了，为什么一贫如洗，两袖清风的教师受到了那么多人的尊敬，为什么人们总是愿意把心中最美的赞歌献给老师?

不要说我们一无所有，当我们的青春走向尽头时，可以自豪地说：“这些希望我们曾用爱去撒播”，去试着体会生活的零零总总，然后再和我一样，让自己的青春因为教育而闪光!

94年前的5月4日，以青年学生为主，爆发了一场发生在中国北京的示威游行。人们广泛参与，纷纷以罢课 罢工 罢市的爱国运动来斗争。人们振臂高呼“外争强权，内除国贼”，人们因爱国，不忍国家割据而示威游行。却不知九十多年后的今天，我们新生代的大学生，青年人在赞扬他们，在向他们虔诚的学习。五四是一个青年爱国的日子，也是我们民族的节日。我有一份五四情，我怀着崇敬的心去追忆那些我们的先辈，我带着一种奋发的情去为祖国奉献，我相信位卑未敢忘忧国，爱国是一个大学生应该作的事，更是一个希望成为党的一员的当代青年必须作的。五四情，我的五四情，我希望我的祖国更加富强。五四情凝聚起来，就是一种五四独有的精神!

We often hear people say, “Never give up.” These can be encouraging words

and words of determination. A person who believes in them will keep trying to

remark,we can infer that,of all the advantageous characteristics,perseverance

Remember that year, I bought a bike,but I can't ride a bike! Mom seems to

在即将逝去的青春中我不好也不坏不特别出众，说奋斗也谈不上真正为了什么去努力过，所以当别人一次次夸耀自己青春无数事迹时我只能以羡慕的眼光看着，所以青春要奋斗才会美丽。如果有梦梦要够疯狂，够疯狂才能变成英雄，总会有一篇属于你的传说。

五四运动，这个在中国近代不可磨灭的词，犹如一股强劲的风，吹遍神州大地，唤起无数奋起之士。爱国主义是五四精神的源泉。“捐躯赴国难，视死忽如归”，在那风雨如晦的年代，一波波奋进青年，舍生忘死，凭借一腔赤红热血，在混沌中找寻真理。“朝闻道，夕可死矣”。为了进步，为了民主，为了科学，那些站在时代潮头的年轻身影，用青春和热血，激活了一个时代，唤醒了一个民族!

拂去历史的尘沙，打开时间的画卷，我们看到的却是这样的现实，有这样一些青年，他们抛弃了传统，他们放弃了信仰，低级趣味，是他们的代名词;玩世不恭，是他们的价值观。在他们身上，我们看到的不是人性的光辉，而是人性的丑陋。这是我们所希冀的吗?这是我们伟大的祖先所想要看到的吗?

不!当然不是。青春是象征着活力与希望的。青春，是热情，是奋斗;是体验，更是理性。当我们看到他们浑浑噩噩，犹如僵尸般行走在这个世界上时，我们应对他们的行为进行道义上的谴责，态度上的纠正。请记住，我们已经退去了童年的稚气，甩掉了少年的恶习。如果把青春比作一块画布，那么爱国，包容，诚信的价值观就是它的底色，遵纪，守法，懂礼，就是它的轮廓，有了这些，我们就可以在青春的画卷上挥斥方遒，就可以在理想的蓝图上一展身手。歌德说：“要成就大事业就要趁青年时代”。那么就让我们用双手弹奏出我们时代的乐章，书写出属于我们民族的青春志。

大家好!

一段岁月，一畔青春。青春的道路，漫长而曲折。走过平坦的大道，能感受到一路顺风的畅快;走过崎岖的小径，能感受到跋山涉水的艰难。一路汗水泼洒，埋头奋斗，在奋斗的青春路上栽下成功的鲜花，涂抹青春的色彩。

夏天是整个宇宙向上的一个阶段，在这时使人的身心解脱尽重重的.束缚，激情与热血在年轻的身躯中澎湃。追随心的律动，我参加了全国钢琴大赛。

梦在前方，一路行进不止，奋斗不止。

月色的银辉像是这暗夜的伤口，点点月光便从其中流泻下来。小小的窗口依旧亮着一盏昏黄的灯，为我的奋斗指引方向。与月色媲美，与青春同行。

虽不及孔子“读《易》韦编三绝”，每日里我的手指也确是红肿胀痛，渐渐磨成了茧。但整日的练习，关节的酸痛，思绪的凝注，都掩不过指下生涩的音符。

“为什么无法成功，奋斗难道毫无出路?”我数次的失败后不禁对自己的行为感到怀疑。我几乎放弃。扭头望向窗外，月光依旧平静如初，一如那个我立下决心的夜。“愿你走过韶华，依旧不忘初心。”我要继续奋斗。发狂似的练习，整栋楼似是将要被我摧毁，谱上凌乱分散的音符，被我的眼神紧紧攥住，压到琴键上。我的身体开始随旋律舞动，常常眼光呆滞，神情投入，着魔似的溺在音乐中，演奏中。

不知温暖了几十遍琴键瘦小细长的身躯，黑白相间的花田上多了两只自由翻飞的蝴蝶，它们飞舞，腾跃，流出一段醉人的音乐，瀑布般泄下，卷席，包裹着我。此刻的我，全然忘尽体内愈加强烈的酸痛感，醉心于此。汗水在不知觉间从发梢滑下，间杂着微咸。

或许，是奋斗的滋味?

走进华丽的演奏大厅，着了闪耀的礼服，等待着，等待着奋斗的花儿绽放。“五号!”我昂首阔步，走上舞台。

指尖滑过，蝴蝶翻飞。一曲《春舞》将舞台搬至阳春三月的田野。我沉醉于蝴蝶绚烂的色泽，觉着青春的神秘与极美已在蜕变中彰示了全部的答案。而那些蝴蝶沐浴着阳光，正舞与奋斗的花田之上。曲毕，掌声意欲掀起屋顶。当纤细的手指给予璀璨的奖杯以温度，奋斗之花，已然绽放。

奋斗在左，汗水在右，走在奋斗的青春路旁，随时播种，悄然绽放，使穿枝拂叶的我奋力奔跑，探求成功的方向。拨开重重荆棘，抬眼发现，我，在奋斗的青春路上。

In the world, I am sure that no one dare say he hasn't met any trouble all his life. So we must face failure. In fact, failure is not fearful, but important thing is how to face it correctly. Defeat, in other words, can help to cure its own cause. Not only does defeat prepare us for success, but nothing can arouse within us such a compelling desire to succeed. If you let a baby grasp a rod and try to pull it away, he will cling more and more tightly until his whole weight is suspended. It is this same reaction which should give you new and greater strength every time you are defeated. If you exploit the power which defeat gives, you can accomplish with it far more than you are capable of.

Some people go through life standing at the excuse counter.

They say they’d like to do this or that, but then they offer all the

excuses in the world for why they can’t do whatever it is. No matter what the

excuses are, the only thing that is usually limiting them is their own

self-perception.

If I’ve learned anything, I’ve learned that a person —any person —may do

anything they set their mind on doing. The things you need are willingness to

work for what you want, patience to learn what you need to know and, most

important of all, belief in yourself. You only need a seed, and then your faith

in yourself will grow with you as you move forward.

If your self-perception is that you can’t accomplish something because

you’re not smart enough, then take the time to learn what you need to know, and

then your self-perception will change.

If your self-perception is that you can’t accomplish something because you

never finish anything you start, then go and finish something and change your

self- perception.

If your self-perception is that you’re too lazy, too busy, too unworthy,

too unfocused, too depressed, or too dependent on others to accomplish great

things, then you’re right. You are that because you believe you are, but in

fact, you can change that! Life is change, and the past doesn’t equal the

future. Your reality today is the result of your past beliefs and actions.

Change your beliefs and actions, and you will change your future. Whether you

think you can or you can’t, you’re right. You are what you think.

Think about that the next time you need an excuse.

Hello everyone! My name is___, a student from_______college. I am glad to

give you a speech about my university. The title of my speech is My college, my

home.

Last September I left my hometown with heavy baggage and after a journey of

ten hours, I came to this dream campus with great expectation and

excitement.

I was deeply attracted by the elegant environment of our campus the moment

I stepped into the university. Straight, wide roads enjoyed the shade and

shelter provided by lordly, green trees. Ancient buildings of great refinement

because they brought me the warmth of home.

Our university is a famous academic center. The teaching staff are all

learned professors. Many of them are world-wide known for their wide range of

knowledge and charming personality. I respect my teachers! I admire my teachers!

I love my teachers! Various activities are carried here. They not only bring me

happiness but also improve myself. I meet with a lot of classmates and make a

large number of friends. When I feel upset, the will give me a hand; when I am

happy, I will share with them. The library has a large collection of books and I

always lose myself in it. I believe they will benefit me a lot and are to
