选择法语授课专业申请者需要在国内接受至少500小时以上的法语培训;
选择英语授课专业申请者需要出具在有效期内的托福(550以上)或者雅思(6.0以上)成绩;
(Carte
Pursue Sport Pursue Beauty
In China, the term Sport and the term Physical Education are exchangeable
literally and practically. That is not right. For me sport is a way to feel the
thrilling experience of life; pursuing nothing but beauty. To promote sports
spirit I ran for the presidency of the Athletics Department in Student Union
rather than the president of the Union.
Running for the position had no surprises, not only because I was well known
as an athlete in the basketball court and track and field, but also because
nobody was interested in the position. Still I was excited and I swore I would
make sports exciting to everybody on campus.
For the first organized activity, I chose what I was good at —basketball.
Before the sophomore tournament, I organized a less serious game in order to
invite students, interests in sports and basketball. But the survey result
disappointed me: only five teams from different classes were interested in a
basketball tournament. No way could NBA games be exciting with only five teams
to compete with each other; audiences would get bored without long term
expectation and anticipation. “So what should we do?” I asked. “Nothing,” one
vice president replied. “There should be something that we can do to make it
right,” I said hopefully. “If girls could join that would be good,” a boy tried.
t.qq.com/dalianliuxue000 aBingo, that’ s great, we could modify the rule for our
basketball game,” a girl added. We shouted, yelled, argued, and eventually, we
agreed: our game would have three players instead of five, regardless of sex and
age while teams are only split by Junior and Senior, and even teachers could
join in the senior game.
At the end of twenty days’ solicitation, we got thirty-two teams registered
in total; almost all with boys and girls mixed, and five teams with teachers
included. In consideration of so many new-comers for basketball, we slightly
changed the rules: we changed the three seconds violation into five and eased
the traveling violation, and made each half of the game be 15 minutes. “This is
not ‘Basketball, anymore; it is ‘our basketball’,” the girl who had first
suggested changing the rules claimed.
The basketball tournament changed the atmosphere of campus. People started
becoming interested in sports, which brought them excitement, relief, and
laughs. Sports added so much fun to our lives and it also changed our attitude
to our studies and team-ship.
The success of the game also brought credit for me. After the game, I was
assigned to take charge in organizing 6th YHHS Recreational Sports Meeting, YHHS
Spring Sports Meeting, and YH High School Sophomore Basketball Tournament. I
learned so much in organizing these events, and I was proud of my team. Without
their enthusiastic support I wouldn’ t have enjoyed so much of the work - an
opportunity to pursue something - beauty that gave me the same feeling as
winning a sport game。
I was seven years old when I saw the ocean for the first time. My
grandmother had invited me to visit her near Okinawa, Japan. I will never forget
that encounter—the intense sun, the endless horizon, the infinite shades of blue
that dissolved any boundary between sky and waves. And most of all, the secret
of the water. Swimming in those waters was like diving into a kaleidoscope,
deceptively plain on the outside, but a show of colors on the inside, waiting to
dazzle me, mesmerize me. Those colors! Coral reefs—pink, green, red,
purple—covered the seafloor; streaks of sunlight illuminated them, the swaying
water creating a dance of hues. And weaving in and out of the contours of coral
swam brilliant fish that synchronized every movement with the water, creating
one body, one living entity. I longed to join and flow with them to the music of
the waves; that’s where I felt I belonged. And leaving was like parting home,
not going home.
Five years later, I returned. At first, all seemed to match my memory: the
crystalline waters and that open horizon with the sun daring to come closer to
Earth. But the second I dove in, I knew my home had vanished…white. That’s all I
could see around me: bone-white death. I couldn’t accept it. I kept swimming
farther out, hoping to catch even the smallest hint of color. But there was no
sign of that brilliant garden I remembered, just fragments of bleached coral. It
was like looking down onto the aftermath of a war: a bombed city, with only the
crumbles of cement to testify for the great buildings that once stood. But who
was the culprit behind this egregious attack?
Though at the age of twelve, I couldn’t even begin to guess, I now know the
answer is us. Humans are an impressive species: we have traveled to every
continent, adapted to countless environments, and innovated to create
comfortable means of living. But in the process, we have stolen the colors from
nature all around the globe, just as we did that coral reef. Our trail of white
has penetrated the forests, the oceans, the grasslands, and spread like a wild
disease. I, too, have left a white footprint, so I have a responsibility to
right these wrongs, to repaint those colors, and to preserve the ones that
remain. Some question why I should care. The answer is simple: this planet is my
home, my birthplace. And that, in and of itself, is an inseparable bond and a
timeless connection. Nature has allowed me my life, so I have no right to deny
its life. As Jane Goodall once said, “If we kill off the wild, then we are
killing a part of our souls.” This is my soul—our soul. I know that I alone
cannot protect this soul, so I will not make a promise that I cannot fulfill.
But this promise I will make: I will do what I can do.
yours Sincerely

Dear sir,
Due to the comprehensiveness of China’s “reform and open” policies,
economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global
position. Though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot
catch up with the development of the companies. Management is a burgeoning field
in China, so I hope I can acquire more modern knowledge on management in
England.
The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my
childhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modern
entrepreneurs. As a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business
ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. My
mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple
calculations. And so it was early in my life that I hoped I, also, would someday
be able to enter the realm of business.
With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy my
curiosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered.
Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my
knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing
rapidly.
As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the College
Entrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were never
excluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, _, I
was so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in the
department of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese
Medicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a
failure at the beginning of my college life. After several terms, I realized
that I would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. At that
moment, I lost my direction and objectives.
My persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. As a matter of
fact, I enjoyed reading the books included Encyclopedia American, and some books
about management by Peter F.Drucker. I began to notice something interesting:
Why some companies can produce more than others? Why some company can sell more
than others? Why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the
same difficulties?
With the questions in my mind, I started to read many relevant books. I was
lucky to read the book “Jack: Straight from the Gut”by Jack Welch, in Which John
A. Byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a
company. When I was a junior, I ran a bookshop by myself near my school. I
should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop
even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run
the shop. From this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has
been greatly developed, definitely I was increasingly interested in what I was
doing. By December, _, I had finally determined to take business management
as my career instead of IT. To accumulate more relevant knowledge, I strived to
gain more practical work experience in some big companies.
Fortunately, as a senior, I began by conducting an internship in the
Architecture Company in Zhejiang Province. Over six months, I worked as an
assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different
departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened
my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different
industries. The experience showed me that management is much more important than
that of I thought in big companies. After graduation, I continued my work in
this company. In May, _, the company offered me an opportunity to participate
in an training program held by a famous management school. Through in-depth
discussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me to
pursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual ability
and the brand new ideas I mentioned.
During the short period of training, I realized that pursuing a higher
degree in management is a wise choice for me now. Lancaster, with its excellence
in management, represents the perfect fit for my needs. In your challenging
environment, I can build the required foundation of knowledge related to
management to achieve my goals. I am firmly convinced that your admission will
be my first step of success. With this in mind, I hereby submit my application,
and await your favorable reply.
Yours,
bzuowen
Dear _,
I come from a background where my family has been in the retail trade for
the last hundred years. Whist I was growing up I have been actively taking part
in the running of the business. My family has given me the opportunity to
further myself in achieving my goals. I believe studying at university will give
me the opportunity to progress in the understanding I currently have in Business
Studies and ICT. I believe that I can combine my interest in Business Studies
and Accounts to excel in Business Management
At my secondary school I was handed the privilege and the responsibility of
being head prefect. My responsibilities included attending meetings with the
school principal and school staff. I believe these installed essential
characteristics such as leadership
I was also the school football captain and represented the school at many
inter-schools sports activities. Furthermore I represented the Wildlife
Conservation Society of Zambia, which is a charitable organisationfor the
protection of wildlife in Zambian Game Parks. Part of my duties included giving
talks to other students concerning conservation and wildlife. I thoroughly
enjoyed this particular segment of my work because conservation is an issue
close to my heart
I am presently enrolled at Redbridge College in Romford where I am studying
three A2 courses in Mathematics, ICT and Business Studies, and one AS-Level in
Accounts. I do take part in several sports activities not only to remain in good
physical shape but also meet new people. I did not achieve all my targets but I
am confident that with extra effort and help from my tutors I will push past my
predicted grades. I have drawn up a plan of what needs to be done over the next
few months in achieving this. Over the last year I have developed at a personnel
level. I understand that the onus is on me to push myself to achieve my
ambitions
Outside of college I have a passion for sports both for enjoyment purposes
and maintaining fitness. Football is at the centre of my love for sport, but I
also enjoy and participate in other sporting activities such as cricket, squash,
badminton, tennis, table tennis and long distance running. I am hoping to carry
on these activities whilst conducting my studies at university. I believe sports
play an important role in providing a balance between education and physical
wellbeing
It has long been my ambition to complete my studies at a British
university. As it is well established Britain has the finest reputation for
higher education around the world. A degree from a British university will
assist me in my future career. I am very much looking forward to educational
challenges that university has in store for me. I am also looking forward to
meeting the different cultures and backgrounds that will exist of any
university. But most importantly I believe I have the prerequisites not only to
achieve a good degree but to progress at a personal level. This would act as a
foundation for any future success in the business world.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen
Dear _,
I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in today’s world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering.
I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practical experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long ‘Into Engineering’ seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. I also attended a Headstart course at Newcastle University, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the main activities was to design, manufacture and test a small crane. I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work. This year a fellow student and I were awarded £500 by the European Scholarship Prize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the city’s culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gained an insight into the government’s proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I also enjoy participating in a range of sports and have represented the school at football and cricket, which has further enhanced my team working skills. In my spare time I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In September I completed a 4-day expedition in the Lake District, which tested my endurance but gave me a great sense of achievement. As part of the award I have been helping at the local youth café once a week, which I am really enjoying as it gives me the chance to meet new people. I also enjoy reading, particularly books on physics and Russian history. I am really interested in computers and I am currently trying to configure a Linux based file and print server for my home network.
For admission to a university in England you have to fill in a form from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). They for a very reasonable fee provide all applicants to unversities and colleges in the UK with a way to apply to up to 6 universities (or multiple courses at, say 3 universities). Part of the form (apart from all the obvious details such as name and address), is half a page where you are asked to write about yourself, your interests and so on. Inevitably you have to make it sound as good as possible, as you're trying to sell yourself to the universities you're applying to...I applied to the universities of Aston, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Loughborough. All for an MEng (Master of Engineering degree) in Chemical Engineering, except for Bristol where I went for an MEng in Computer Science, so this is tailored towards those courses. Anyway... Here it is. I don't guarantee that you won't get bored! ;-). (NB this was written in the summer of 1999, and is therefore not too current!).Reasons for Course Choice
Since beginning secondary school, I've been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork I've read around these two subjects. Because I am also very keen on Mathematics and Physics, I want to pursue a degree course that combines all or most of these. Both of my parents are Science/Engineering graduates and they have taught me some of the qualities needed for a degree course in this field. This has encouraged me to find out about the opportunities available. Aims
I have applied to several firms for sponsorship while at university and during a gap year, with the intention of getting Engineering-related work experience. This would give me valuable experience for the course at university. I hope to obtain a Master of Engineering degree and become employed in research and development in the oil or food industry. Eventually, I would like to do postgraduate study, and perhaps even teach Chemistry/Engineering. Interests
I play basketball, tennis, volleyball, and I like kayaking. By far my biggest sports interest, however, is orienteering. I've won several trophies for Andalusian and league championships, and I've helped to organise regional orienteering events. I have also designed the database system for my club. My greatest interest outside school is computing. I have done a large amount of web design. I help maintain the computer systems at my father's workplace; and I also do some part time work teaching people on a one-to-one basis how to use their computers. I like writing manuals or "notes" on things related to computers, and have published an article on web design in a small US computer magazine. I have written papers on the use of data-logging and other equipment for my school's science department. This year, I was responsible for laying out my school's entire yearbook using DTP software. Recently, I was employed developing a web site and training staff for an organisation in London. When I have time I play the keyboard, and also do some sound engineering: I used to operate the mixing desk at my local church, as well as help at my parents' workplace, which is a professional recording studio. I enjoy teaching and have given weekly tuition in Maths and English. General Points
I've lived in Spain for 14 years and am fluent in Spanish. In addition, my parents work with North Africans, Middle Easterners, Americans, Spaniards, Britons, and people of other nationalities. I have gained valuable experience growing up with many different cultures around me, and as a result appreciate the difficulties of cross-cultural communication. I have been part of several "King's Kids", teams which perform music and dance all over Spain. This entailed travelling away from home for 3 weeks at a time, and having to work with around 60 other people. I think that this has made me a fairly rounded person, and I therefore feel confident about "fitting in" with people from any culture.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen
Dear _,
After careful consideration and consultation between my parents, tutor and
teachers, I have chosen to apply for a degree course in English, as it is a
subject for which I have a real passion, and would be useful for a future career
in the media industry. I am currently studying A-Level English Language, and the
course has enabled me to develop knowledge of interesting issues relating to the
English language. For example, an intriguing topic I studied, involved the study
on how each gender uses language, leading to interesting topics of discussion. I
also looked at language used within the media industry, allowing me to develop
an insight into journalistic styles of writing. I have also extended my
linguistic skills, and am able to carry out in-depth textual analyses. English
is a subject I have a real enthusiasm for and is a subject I'd like to continue
studying
Alongside English, I am currently studying A-Levels in Media Studies and ICT,
both of which I enjoy immensely. Media Studies has enabled me to have some
experience of the work and issues involved in the media and is another subject I
have a real interest in. The course has given me a useful insight into how the
media works and the production techniques and values contributing to the
creation of media texts
There have been many assignments that have been enjoyable. For example, I
produced my own mock supplement for a Sunday newspaper, including celebrity
pages and film reviews, using my linguistic and writing skills to my advantage.
I also worked in a team to produce a short documentary on fast food consumption
in the UK. I believe both projects were successful, achieving quality end
products
In ICT, I have explored various multimedia packages and issues surrounding
the computing industry, informing me on the role of communications in society. A
favourite project of mine was designing a software package on Microsoft Excel. I
decided to create a fantasy football competition for a secondary school,
providing a comprehensive system for the students. I was proud of the end result
and received the highest mark in the year
I believe I have achieved a lot during my education and have enjoyed the
subjects I have studied. With my determination and willingness to succeed, I
believe I am responsible enough to handle the transition to university life. I
was selected to represent the Media Studies department in my college's
prospectus, to inform future students about the course. I also represented my
secondary school in a Mathematics Masterclass and was also picked to be a
political party leader in a mock school general election, which involved speech
writing and preparing manifestos as part of the campaign
Outside of my academic studies, I enjoy participating in sports, particularly
football, of which I am a keen player and supporter. I also enjoy tennis and
have been awarded certificates to a high level at swimming. I believe my
participation in sports has allowed me to develop important teamwork and
organizational skills. Other hobbies of mine include listening to music and
playing chess. I am also computer literate, and often use the Internet, allowing
me to develop web design and programming skills
In conclusion, I consider myself to be a dedicated and committed student,
with an excellent attendance record and I am excited at the prospect of studying
English at degree level and looking forward to getting into university life.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen
Dear _,
There are a great deal of media and communication courses available, but a
degree in public relations is something I could thrive on. I believe my
established communication skills and enthusiasm for dealing with other people
would provide a solid foundation for which to further develop those skills
incorporated into this course. I relish the idea of a career working with the
public, based on critical thinking and strategic planning, thus justifying my
application for this course. My interest in current affairs has stemmed from the
A Level politics course I am studying, which engrossed my from day one. Critical
analysis and presentation of information plays an integral part of this subject,
and consequently these skills I have gained from this would prove to be a
valuable stepping stone into public relations.
My interest in media and communications was fueled by a previous passion to
study journalism. Work experience in a local newspaper office and at a German
regional newspaper office provoked a desire to learn more about where our
information was coming from and who wrote the press releases that we based our
front page articles on. Consequently, I carried out additional work experience
in a PR consultancy, whilst on a German exchange, and I am currently waiting
from several consultancies in my area that I recently applied to.
Since year 10, I have been an active member of my schools web team and have
had various articles published relating to subject departments and school trips
I have been on, such as the history-based trip to Eastern Europe. My spare time
involves reading books from contemporary authors (John Simpson, Michael Moore
etc) as well as more ''classic'' books, such as Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a
Mockingbird and Animal Farm. I enjoy many aspects of music. I have recently
started to teach myself to play the flute and I regularly attend various music
concerts.
At the weekend, I work for HMV (who I have enquired to about a summer
placement at their in-house PR office), which I thoroughly enjoy due to the
creative environment and strong emphasis on customer service. I have had part
time jobs for the last three years, thus allowing me to not only manage my time
efficiently, but to develop various skills in communication with the public and
my ability to work in a team.
Evidently, my studies and interests to skills like teamwork, communication
and multi-tasking that I would develop in a public relations degree, hopefully
giving merit to my application for this course.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen
Dear _,
Since I was very young I have always been interested in accounting and
finance and how they operate. In China, my favourite TV programme is the finance
programme and I enjoy international finance. I frequently worked in my mother's
company to help the staff in the accounts department. All of these have given me
an understanding of accounting and finance
My passion for the subject expanded when I chose accounting as part of my
A-level programme. Although this subject is somewhat demanding, I find it
extremely interesting. I believe this is the right choice for me. I am confident
that a course in accounting and finance satisfies my interest. I am looking
forward to learning more of accounting in my A-level course
In my spare time I enjoy playing basketball. I play once or twice a week
with my friends. I also like to listen to music. I think that playing basketball
can help me to increase the team spirit and music can help me relax. Also while
I was working as a cleaner in Downing College at Cambridge University, I believe
that I gained invaluable experience in dealing with the boss and trying to
deliver colleague satisfaction, whilst learning to work effectively and
efficiently in a well-structured team. Hopefully I will be able to get this kind
of opportunity to work whilst at university. I enjoy my spare time and try to
use it effectively
I consider myself to be a hard working outgoing individual. I still have
some shortcomings. For example, I am a little bit disorganised sometimes. But I
have known this and I am trying to correct it. I have made a timetable to
organise my daily life. I am looking forward to the challenge of university
life, both socially and mentally. I strongly believe that my years at university
will be enjoyable and those that I will remember for the rest of my life. Most
of all I am hoping that my chosen subject will give me a strong foundation for a
successful career.
Yours sincerely,
