I first realised I wanted to study Psychology when studying Drama, because in order to portray characters I had to understand their mind and develop their personality. I found the differences in characters were so vast that it made me want to understand these variations. Since beginning the course in College I have been truly captivated by all areas of psychological theory and research, and am eager to contribute to the understanding we have about the behaviour of human and non-human animals. In particular, I am fascinated by the fundamental debates in Psychology, for example the nature nurture debate. A Forensic and Investigative Psychology conference I attended, presented by Professor David Canter, caught my attention as I found it intriguing that people can behave in such a way that will offend others and often feel little or no remorse. After reading his book, "Mapping Murder", my interest in abnormality and psychopathology rapidly increased, as his book and conference allowed me to understand the psychology behind this type of behaviour, amplifying my interest in the subject. I enjoy reading about different studies that have been conducted in the past, which I can analyse and evaluate to obtain a more advanced understanding of behaviours exhibited.

As a peer mentor, my job was to attend to the needs of younger or more vulnerable students and to offer them full support. This job requires patience and compassion, along with willingness to help and motivate others. I have received certificates and awards for good behaviour, attendance, punctuality and performing arts, demonstrating my enthusiasm in everything I do. My work experience in the retail industry has given me the chance to develop critical skills which are essential such as; good communication with others, a strong determination to achieve my best and dedication to all work I undertake. I also enjoy sports, such as swimming, cricket, tennis and hockey, resulting in my competitive nature and desire to succeed. 那么申请到英国就读的a-level又需要具备什么条件呢?年龄满16岁，雅思或语言水平相当于雅思成绩5-5.5分。当然，语言要求仍然会根据学校的不同而有所变化。并且和申请本科预科一个道理，大部分学校申请a-level的时候是可以不用带着雅思成绩申请的。此外，学生还要通过学校的入学考试。入学考试分为笔试和面试。笔试通常为英语，数学或科学，一般根据学生选的a-level课程的科目进行测试。笔试形式有去英国当地考试，委托国内的中介考试，或在线测试等。面试基本分为电话或视频面试。也有学校校长会亲自来到中国，在北京或者上海安排面试和笔试。

预科课程从优势上来说，学制相对较短，只需一年或者半年。升读本科的成功率高。比如谢菲尔德大学，格拉斯哥大学，纽卡斯尔大学等都开设了针对本校学位课程的直升式预科，只要能顺利完成预科课程，通过学校的预科考试，都可以进入该大学相应的专业进行本科学位的学习。也就是说一般通过了大学的预科课程的考核，就能进入该大学就读。但是从劣势上来讲，预科毕业后学生能被几所大学本科所接受，不仅与学生本人的成绩有关，也与预科学校的知名度有关。牛津大学、剑桥大学等英国顶尖名校从不开设预科课程，但这些大学接受一流大学预科课程——如soas设立的预科的优秀预科学生，但是入学门槛很高。

而a-level的优势在于a-level考试被英国所有大学认可，学生毕业后可选择英国所有大学，只要成绩足够优异，就可以申请牛津、剑桥、帝国理工、伦敦政经这样的世界名校。但是从劣势上来说，相对于本科预科课程，a-level课程学制长，需要两年。并且由于a-level课程相当于我们国内高三和大学一年级的水平，所以要求学生的学习能力较强。

I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in today’s world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering.

I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practical experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long ‘Into Engineering’ seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. Since beginning secondary school, I've been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork I've read around these two subjects. 一、经济实力

（2）语言要求：

首先是必备的核心文书，包括：推荐信、简历、essay。

1.推荐信

新生申请一般需要2-3封推荐信，一般是选择1位counselor，也就是国内的班主任，另外还有2位任课老师。推荐信的递交方式通常是网推，你需要在网申中填写推荐老师的邮箱信息，然后学校会给推荐人的邮箱里发一封邮件，提醒收件人提交推荐信。也有个别学校需要邮寄，那就需要把推荐信装进信封，并且由老师在封口处签字。开学后就可以联系推荐老师，最晚在网申截止前完成推荐信。

2.简历

一般本科新生不需要简历，但是在网申填写中会涉及到简历的内容，有个别学校也会要求提供此项。因此我们还是要准备一份。简历的篇幅最好不超过一页，基本都是在网申中上传。这项越早完成越好。

大部分学校都是使用common网申系统，以及加州大学的加州系统，还有德州大学的德州系统，个别学校还会有自己的独立系统。另外还有今年新出台的caas系统。每个系统都会有自己的essay题目，例如common有5选1的必选题目，uc系统有8选2的essay题目。每所学校还会有自己的小essay，未确认选校名单前，可以先准备写作必选的essay。essay写作是申请中十分重要的一环，一篇优秀的essay也需要反复的打磨，因此要尽早准备。

除了核心文书，还有常规材料，其中包括：

1.网申表格

需要填写的信息包括个人背景信息、活动背景、标化成绩、essay等信息。一般8月初陆续开放网申，可以先填写基本信息，为后续的申请节省时间。

2.学术报告

包括三份，其中school report需要由counselor在线提交，mid year report以及final report分别是高三上学期和下学期的成绩报告，需要邮寄。

3.成绩单

因为美国高中是4年制，因此国内学生需要提供初三、高一和高二的成绩单。成绩单需要中英文版，大部分都是在网上提交。也有个别学校要求邮寄，因此要备份出6-8份的纸质版成绩单。注意一定要有学校的红色盖章才算是正式成绩单。开学后就要立即准备成绩单。

4.标准化成绩送分

标化成绩包括toefl/ielts，sat/act。考出有效分数后，需要通过送分机构将分数寄送给申请的学校。一般托福送分最长2-4个周，sat送分3个周。所以想要申请早批录取和提前批次的学生，一定在11月之前考出有效成绩，以免耽误你的申请。

5.在读证明

目前仍在读的学生需要开具在读证明，在读证明需要中英文对照，打印在学校的抬头纸上，并且要盖章。这项材料最好开学后就立即办，最晚网申截止前完成。

6.作品集

主要是针对有艺术特长和申请艺术相关专业的学生的。通过一些cd、dvd、作品集等来展现自己的特长，增加申请亮点。但是要切忌盲目准备，只有已经在艺术方面有较深造诣的学生才有必要准备，否则只会对申请造成不好的影响。另外有些学校对作品集要求的截止时间比常规申请时间还要早，因此要尽早准备。

去美国申请，还有一个准备的部分就是资金，学校会要求提供财力文件的证明，保证申请人有足够的经济实力。其中包括：

1.存款证明

分为2种，一是申请中提供；二是办理签证时提供。一般申请中需要存50-60万人民币，签证时准备80-100万。冻结期一般是3-6个月，如果资金不紧张可以直接冻结1年或者6个月，同时覆盖申请和签证办理的时间。存款证明在当季9-12月开出来就可以。

2.资金表格

大部分学校都要求填写学校官方的资金表格，主要是考察父母的收入水平和你接受外界资助的情况。大部分学校通过邮件发送电子版即可，但是也有一些学校需要打印出来再签字邮寄。

3.收入证明
