sciences, performance arts, social sciences, politics, military, education and so on. when pressing a button, i can hear american president clinton's speech clip. i may enjoy playing all kinds of musical instruments in the world. i can also see the animation of many physical phenomena. this makes physical concept to be understood deeply (3). the audio features of multimedia can greatly help me learning (4) foreign languages. with its speech output capabilities, i'm no longer dependent on an instructor for proper pronunciation.

how can i interact with a computer? there are many ways, including keyboard, mouse pointer, and touch screen. i often use a keyboard. when i press right keys, i can see and hear whatever i want. information world is at my fingertip. i wish that true speech input-output system would be invented one day.

as teachers, computers have a lot of virtues： they are positive, they have good memories and never lose any information stored in them. they have much knowledge in every field. they can let out all kinds of sounds, and can also improve the efficiency of our study. for example, if i want to, i can skip some chapters so that i can study at my own pace.

although computers will never take the place of human teachers, they are welcomed by more and more learners. computers will continue to evolve(发展)with the aid of modern technologies. computers are so powerful, helpful and important that everybody needs it, especially in the future! i love my computer teacher!

My Definition of Success

“Once upon a time， there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. To all the suitors who came to the king's palace to ask for the hand of the princess, the old king assigned three tasks to be accomplished, each next to impossible. One day, into the king's palace came a handsome young prince..." Well, you know the rest. The three tasks may be different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's hand triumphantly.

And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line "And they live happily every after."

Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like that endure generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. By implication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 ) challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by the ordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.

The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and vice versa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term "success", to be sure. will not sit still for easy definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactory result of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.

If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, so that another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishment and the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckham needed only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winning would have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, success acquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.

The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you do effortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he or she achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he has contributed greatly to the field of science.

I myself, a rather shy person by nature who easily suffer from stage fright, had to pluck up great courage to take part in a speech contest like this. I could have stayed away and had an easy time of it by not entering the university level contest.But I chose to accept the challenge and to face the difficulties. Now here I am. If I come out first, it will be a great success for me. If I come out last-I hope this will not be the case-but if I come out last, I will not call my attempt a failure, but will also celebrate it as a true success, because part of my goal is my own character training-to do more assertive, to be brave in face of difficulties. For me, it is a meaningful step forward, small as it is, in the long journey toward the final success in my life, because I have truly gained by participating.

Let us return to our handsome young prince and the 4-step definition of success. It’s a very intresting topic today.

I think my dad was a hero for me when i was a young child. we'd go fishing,

walks, and other fun things for a kid.

Every child has a good and great father, and so do i. my dad played a very

important role in my daily life`````exactly speaking, in my past 16 years.

My father always stands in the center of my life， from past till now and

possibly in the future.

My family was rather poor when i was in my childhood. we didn't have our

own house and had to live in a shabby， small room rented from my father's

factory. the room was so small that there was little space for people to walk. i

didn't have my own bed and had to sleep with my parents. this is terrible both

for my parents and me.but father made this all different!he works very hard on

his own business, now we have our own 2 housese,surly,i have my own room.and he

take our family so much happiness, richer and richer.

When i was little, i did everything with my dad. you could always find me

sitting on his knee or walking and doing everything with him. every night he

would read me a bed time story and make the voices of each character.

I learnt a lot from my daddy. i learnt to never take things to seriously

and to always smile.

Like many other fathers, my dad and i also has generation gap. he is not

good at or even can’t work the computer. so when i sitting at the computer

desk,he will say something like ‘you should pay more attention to your study’,

‘don’t waste time on the computer games’ , ‘it will be bad for your eyes’ and so

on. how can i- a computer fan – reduce time on computer? so i continue studying

and playing on it

Years pasted, my father is over 45 now. it is time for me to look after him

and i am sure i will do and we will live an even better life. and i will say,i

really love you dad,cause you are the hero in my mind.

Tonight I want to talk to you on a subject of deep concern to all Americans and to many people in all parts of the world, the war in Vietnam.

I believe that one of the reasons for the deep division about Vietnamis that many Americans have lost confidence in what their Government has told them about our policy. My future house is wide and spacious. It contains a lot of room such as swim pool, exercise room which contains a plenty of exercise machines, and a big play land so I can play inside the house no matter what time i play, it always open for me.

Everything inside the house will be clean of themselves so I don't have to wash them. The tables are new, the computer is the coolest and the tv channels are enjoyable to watch. I want the background of the wall is mysterious and pretty and different in every single room.

My future house will prevent the volcano blow and the tsunami or flood attack. It has the emergency exit and security alarm so everything will be safe!

My College

The college life is wonderful. All life in school are fresh. New teachers, new CLASSmates and fresh friends are around me。 The grand library, school buildings and wide playground are very attracting to me. I am very eager to learn much knowledge quickly. In high school, I was ever called as a runner before time. Now,I know I am behind time so much in fact. I hope to catch up with the time by my hard studying. When I entered the CLASSroom at first time, I was headache as I couldn’t understand what the professor was speaking. I met much difficulties at math, physics and other courses, even though I used to be good at these sciences. Therefore, I learn these courses myself after CLASS. When I was little, I lived in a remote village in southern China with my grandparents. Like many kids in the countryside, I enjoyed digging a hole in the opening among paddy fields, using branches and hay to bake sweet potatoes and playing hawk-and-chicken with my friends. Every Chinese New Year Eve, my grandmother would prepare our festive food called Guo. It was a tradition that neighbors help each other prepare Guo. While adults were busy pouring flour on the cutting board, pressing the paste flat and moulding it into beautiful shape, kids would run around in the village’s ancestral temple and immerse ourselves in the enchanting and cheerful smell of holiday.

Having lived in the city for the following ten years, I always feel the changes happening in my hometown every time I go back--the village looks surprisingly similar to the coastal city where I live! The opening field where I baked potatoes was leveled and a manufacturing factory has been built there, blocking the sunlight of our yard. The ancestral temple has been torn down and is now a small supermarket for villagers. The number of people knowing how to prepare Guo is diminishing and young people seem to be more interested in fast food and oblivious of traditional arts and skills. The village seems quite empty because most young people have become migrant workers in cities and only return home once or twice a year.

In the course of urbanization, villages gradually languish and die out when the passing on of traditions lose its population base. The total number of Chinese villages has declined from 3.7 million in 2000 to 2.6 million in 2010. Approximately 300 villages in China are disappearing every day. It’s saddening to see that many ancient villages, which survived warfare and natural disasters over thousands of years, have been demolished or annexed by cities in peacetime. Lulei Village, hometown for the famous mathematician, Chen Jingrun, was an affluent village in southern China with a history of over 700 years. Since the village obstructed the construction of the local railway station, it was almost torn down, including the former residence for Chen’s family.

We Chinese have been reveling in urbanization for decades. What worries me is that one day on this way to modernization, we turn back but are unable to see the link with our origins and ancestors. When we’re surrounded by skyscrapers and neon glamour, what defines us as Chinese? Urbanization does not mean brutally encroaching upon the countryside and strangling rural culture. It should not sever the ties with our beloved homeland. While promoting the country’s economy, it should also allow space for cultural diversity. In the ideal urbanization process, we should no longer emphasize the binary opposition of city and village, but endeavor to form a reciprocal relationship between the two.

Ladies and gentlemen, fallen leaves return to the roots. If we do not redefine and reorient urbanization, we will not be able to save millions of villages, neither can we revert to the origin where we belong.

One Student Is Just Like a Flower

My dear Mr. and Misses, my fellows schoolmates,

Good morning! As you know and see, it is a sunny bump harvest season. In the city, in our school campus, everywhere is surrounded with roses which we together planted 4 years ago. Today may these roses and our friendship as well be together and comfort our excited hearts!

It was four years ago that everyone of us came from every part of China and formed a new collective. As we are young, it’s very easy for us to communicate. It was in the past four years that we were ambitious. It was in the past four years that we worried. It was in the past four years that we were content. It was in the past four years that we were vexed. It was in the past four years that we were friendly and lonely ... and it was in the past fours that we studied, lived and respected each other with genuine and with our ambitions. when speaking of honor, one has images like yang li-wei, jackie chen or learned scholars like the honorable judges here. it is true that these people are worthy of admiration. but how about those who are around us, who contributes to the society in different ways, completing their everyday task with devotions but remain unknown? are they far from honor? should they only clap hands for the people on the stage? shouldn’t they also deserve respect from us? i don’t think so.

honor wears different coats to different eyes. i would like to take miss zhang, a primary school teacher, for example. she has been teaching english for more than 30 years. countless students have learnt the first english letter from her and become interested in this language because of her enlightenment. so many years have passed and miss zhang is still an ordinary primary school teacher without any prize, flowers or honorable titles but in my eyes she is the very person who deserve honor and respect. every time i stand on the winner’s box, i couldn’t help thinking of miss zhang. i owe my success in english and my gratitude to her.

just as alexander pope said: act well your part, there all honor lies. honor can be found in our every day life and belongs to you, to me and to every ordinary person.

荣誉，是一个神圣的字眼，是令人羡慕的光环，是光荣的标志。

人们一提起荣誉，首先会想到那些干出一番轰轰烈烈的事业，那些做出过巨大贡献，或者是地位显赫的人。例如杨利伟、成龙等，或者是在座的教授、评委们。是的，他们都享有盛誉，都应该受人尊重。但同时， 我也不会忘记在我们身边还有许许多多默默耕耘、爱岗敬业、甘于奉献，却又默默无闻的人们。

难道他们就与荣誉无缘吗?难道他们就只佩在台下为领奖者鼓掌祝贺吗?难道他们就不应该同样受到社会的尊重吗?不，我不这样认为。

我想说说我的一位小学老师，她姓张。教我的时候，她已在讲台上站了30多年。年复一年，一批批学生从她那里受到英语启蒙，我就是那时喜欢上英语的。而多年过去，张老师还是一位普通的小学英语老师，没有大奖，没有称号，没有鲜花。但在我眼中，她是最值得得到尊重，得到荣誉的人。我每次在英语比赛中取得成绩，得到奖励，就会想起张老师，就想向张老师道一声谢谢，就想把荣誉归于张老师。

由此，我认为，荣誉也应该是一个朴实的字眼，是一束在平凡中闪烁的光辉，她应该属于每一个普普通通的人。

Good morning! I am very glad to be here to share my college life with you .

Two years ago, I came into this city of and started my college life , the most memorable journey of my life. I was just a shy and little girl that time. all the things seemed fresh to me: new faces, large library and physics lab etc. I breathed the air of college greedily, I was curious about everything.The class given by the teachers are excellent.they provide us with information not only from our textbook but from other sources as well.I actively involved in student union and varies of association. But soon I realized that I do not make full use of my spare time ,so I got a part-time job to help a junior student with math lessons Besides,I also took part in activities concerning public welfare. We taught the kids there who could not afford school, I was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, The precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us--future teachers. The enrichment of experience taught me the significance of modesty,responsibility,tolerance,and perseverance.

And now I have been here two years. recalling to the two years, I think I have to talk about one thing--learning. learn how to study independently, learn how to get along with others, learn to love, learn to… oh, there are too much things we have to learn.

Comparing with senior high school, college is a rather different place. there aren’t so many people to watch you and guide you how to do something any more, neither are there so many students who share with you one dream. in college, you must think and study yourself, so you have to learn and practice to control yourself.

Another relationship in college is friendship. my roommates have lived two years with me. in these years, they forgive my faults, cry with me, laugh with me, play with me… they always stand with me and support me, I have learned a lot from them. I love them all and treasure the friendship with them.

In the next 2 years,I’ll try my best to and make great contributions to society! that’s my college life. I cherish all I have experienced in college. I love you, my college!

MONEY 钱

Everybody wishes (hopes) to get money so that he can maintain his livelihood. In other words, money is so useful that it is impossible for mankind to live without it. For this reason, we have an interesting proverb. It says “Money can make the world go around.” In a word, money is more powerful than anything else.

However, money should not be wasted. It must be used for (some) proper purposes. We young men should form the good habit of not spending money in the wrong way.

每个人为了能够维持生活，所以都希望得到钱。换句话说，钱是非常有用，所以没有它人类即无法生活。基于此种理由，我们有一句有趣的谚语。它说有“钱能使鬼推磨”。一言以蔽之，钱比任何另外的东西更有力量。

然而，钱不应该被浪费掉。它必须用于正当的用途上。我们青年人应该养成不乱花钱的好习惯。

Dream is beautiful, it is the bottom of my heart the most beautiful

expectations, so the dream also become our long-held beliefs.

Dream is the sun, it makes people from impetuous to solid, from the

hesitation to the firm, and on the road to success.

Dream is powerful, it is the life source of forward momentum; Lofty dreams

can inspire a life all potential. Because of this we will go to dream, to grasp

the dream, the pursuit of dreams.

Our new president Xi Jinping came up with the dream of the Chinese nation's

I always ask myself what can I do for our great Chinese dream ? As we all

know that the wiser the youths are ,the wiser the nation will be;the wealthier

the youths are ,the wealthier the nation will be;the stronger the youths are

,the stronger the nation will be. Here the word wealthy means: enriching our

knowledge reserve. As a new generation of youth , every one here shouldering the

great historical mission of making china powerful and strong. You may say that

this may exaggerate our role, but I want to say you are wrong. If I am a little

screw our great dream may be a multifunction and complex machine. Through this

example I just want to say I am very tiny but I am indispensable .

I believe that as long as all of our young people unite together and

perform our own functions that study hard in school and work hard after we

graduating from university . We must be able to achieve our great dream

meanwhile enrich ourselves unwittingly!

Chaina has put a ban on the use of much thinner plastic bags starting on June 1,2008.According to the ban people are not allowed to use super-thin plastic bags any more.And all the supermarkets are forbidden to provide customers the plastic bags for free. If the customers need a piastic bag, they must pay for it.

I think the ban is good for us, and it can protect our environment. As we all know, the plastic bags can cause the white pollution and pollute soli and water. Besides, producing plastic bags can waste much energy and make our earth worse.

So we should firmly carry out the ban sa that we can improve our environment. From now no, we should encourage our families and friends to use cloth bags or baskets. We mustn't litter the rubbish. And we should recycle plastic bottles, solt drink cans, and so on. I'm sure we can make our environment better.

What do I want to do when I’m older?

You see,I like playing the piano and I am good at it. So I want to become a piano player.(pianist). Playing the piano is very interesting. And you can learn something of music. Piano can make your life beautiful and happy. Your life is full of music. A lot of musicians and singers love playing the pianos.

I could play the piano when I was ten years old. All of my teachers and my classmates say I can play the piano very well. I have got Grand Five . I hope when I’m sixteen years old , I can get Grand Eight.

Now I’m a middle school student. There are many things at school. Sometimes ,I have no time to play the piano. But,I’ll still be harder and harder to practise.The youngest pianoist, Langlang is my idol. He is such a great pianoist.I hope I can be a pianoist like him.

Nothing succeeds like confidence.When you are truly confident,it radiates

It's important to believe in yourself.Believe that you can do it under any

self-confidence.If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to

change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live your

priorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment with

your priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose,and you will have the life

you want.
