My View on Optimistic Attitude to Life
For the majority of people, life is full of trifles that trouble us a lot.
Sure, I know that trifle exists. However, from my perspective, trivial matters
are not all.
Once on a time, I was not optimistic about frustrations and was subject to
pessimistic when confronted with trifles. However, things began to change when I
was selected to be a monitor that service classmates, notice something important
and sometimes organize some meaningful activities. Besides, it needs me to have
enough abilities to schedule time in order to ensure that I have ample time to
study.
I'll never forget the very day when I failed at the mid-term exam when I
was crazy and pessimistic about the trifles such as training sessions that
didn't give me a second to study. It's true that score is one of the most
important things to a college student, so after that, I began to schedule my
time
accurately and scientifically. From the warning of the mid-term exam, I
have changed a lot, and get through the final exam successfully in the end.
Thanks to the selection, thanks to the mid-term exam, I eventually learned
the significance of optimism, which serves as indispensable components or
personality and is beneficial to a promising prospect.

Thank you!
Chief Justice Rehnquist, President Carter, President Bush , President Clinton, distinguished guests and my fellow citizens, the peaceful transfer of authority is rare in history, yet common in our country. With a simple oath, we affirm old traditions and make new beginnings.
As I begin, I thank President Clinton for his service to our nation.
And I thank Vice President Gore for a contest conducted with spirit and ended with grace.
I am honored and humbled to stand here, where so many of America's leaders have come before me, and so many will follow.
We have a place, all of us, in a long story -- a story we continue, but whose end we will not see. It is the story of a new world that became a friend and liberator of the old, a story of a slave-holding society that became a servant of freedom, the story of a power that went into the world to protect but not possess, to defend but not to conquer.
It is the American story -- a story of flawed and fallible people, united across the generations by grand and enduring ideals.
The grandest of these ideals is an unfolding American promise that everyone belongs, that everyone deserves a chance, that no insignificant person was ever born.
Americans are called to enact this promise in our lives and in our laws. And though our nation has sometimes halted, and sometimes delayed, we must follow no other course.
Through much of the last century, America's faith in freedom and democracy was a rock in a raging sea. Now it is a seed upon the wind, taking root in many nations.
Our democratic faith is more than the creed of our country, it is the inborn hope of our humanity, an ideal we carry but do not own, a trust we bear and pass along. And even after nearly 225 years, we have a long way yet to travel.
While many of our citizens prosper, others doubt the promise, even the justice, of our own country. The ambitions of some Americans are limited by failing schools and hidden prejudice and the circumstances of their birth. And sometimes our differences run so deep, it seems we share a continent, but not a country.
We do not accept this, and we will not allow it. Our unity, our union, is the serious work of leaders and citizens in every generation. And this is my solemn pledge: I will work to build a single nation of justice and opportunity.
I know this is in our reach because we are guided by a power larger than our selves who creates us equal in His image.
And we are confident in principles that unite and lead us onward.
America has never been united by blood or birth or soil. We are bound by ideals that move us beyond our backgrounds, lift us above our interests and teach us what it means to be citizens. Every child must be taught these principles. Every citizen must uphold them. And every immigrant, by embracing these ideals, makes our country more, not less, American.
Today, we affirm a new commitment to live out our nation's promise through civility, courage, compassion and character.
America, at its best, matches a commitment to principle with a concern for civility. A civil society demands from each of us good will and respect, fair dealing and forgiveness.
Some seem to believe that our politics can afford to be petty because, in a time of peace, the stakes of our debates appear small.
But the stakes for America are never small. If our country does not lead the cause of freedom, it will not be led. If we do not turn the hearts of children toward knowledge and character, we will lose their gifts and undermine their idealism. If we permit our economy to drift and decline, the vulnerable will suffer most.
We must live up to the calling we share. Civility is not a tactic or a sentiment. It is the determined choice of trust over cynicism, of community over chaos. And this commitment, if we keep it, is a way to shared accomplishment.
America, at its best, is also courageous.
Our national courage has been clear in times of depression and war, when defending common dangers defined our common good. Now we must choose if the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us. We must show courage in a time of blessing by confronting problems instead of passing them on to future generations.
Together, we will reclaim America's schools, before ignorance and apathy claim more young lives.
We will reform Social Security and Medicare, sparing our children from struggles we have the power to prevent. And we will reduce taxes, to recover the momentum of our economy and reward the effort and enterprise of working Americans.
We will build our defenses beyond challenge, lest weakness invite challenge.
We will confront weapons of mass destruction, so that a new century is spared new horrors.
The enemies of liberty and our country should make no mistake: America remains engaged in the world by history and by choice, shaping a balance of power thatf avors freedom. We will defend our allies and our interests. We will show purpose without arrogance. We will meet aggression and bad faith with resolve and strength. And to all nations, we will speak for the values that gave our nation birth.
America, at its best, is compassionate. In the quiet of American conscience, we know that deep, persistent poverty is unworthy of our nation's promise.
And whatever our views of its cause, we can agree that children at risk are not at fault. Abandonment and abuse are not acts of God, they are failures of love.
And the proliferation of prisons, however necessary, is no substitute for hope and order in our souls.
Where there is suffering, there is duty. Americans in need are not strangers, they are citizens, not problems, but priorities. And all of us are diminished when any are hopeless.
Government has great responsibilities for public safety and public health, for civil rights and common schools. Yet compassion is the work of a nation, not just a government.
And some needs and hurts are so deep they will only respond to a mentor's touch or a pastor's prayer. Church and charity, synagogue and mosque lend our communities their humanity, and they will have an honored place in our plans and in our laws.
Many in our country do not know the pain of poverty, but we can listen to those who do.
And I can pledge our nation to a goal: When we see that wounded traveler on
the road to Jericho, we will not pass to the other side.
America, at its best, is a place where personal responsibility is valued and expected.
Encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats, it is a call to conscience. And though it requires sacrifice, it brings a deeper fulfillment. We find the fullness of life not only in options, but in commitments. And we find that children and community are the commitments that set us free.
Our public interest depends on private character, on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness, on uncounted, unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom.
Sometimes in life we are called to do great things. But as a saint of our times has said, every day we are called to do small things with great love. The most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.
I will live and lead by these principles: to advance my convictions with civility, to pursue the public interest with courage, to speak for greater justice and compassion, to call for responsibility and try to live it as well.
In all these ways, I will bring the values of our history to the care of our times.
What you do is as important as anything government does. I ask you to seek a common good beyond your comfort; to defend needed reforms against easy attacks; to serve your nation, beginning with your neighbor. I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens, building communities of service and a nation of character.
Americans are generous and strong and decent, not because we believe in ourselves, but because we hold beliefs beyond ourselves. When this spirit of citizenship is missing, no government program can replace it. When this spirit is present, no wrong can stand against it.
After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: "We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?"
Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The yearsand changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.
We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.
Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.
This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.
God bless you all, and God bless America.

I have lived for six years, and I have a deep love for it. Not only can you
form a good study habit here, you can also study and live in a beautiful
environment.
Recently we learned the lesson about protecting the environment. The
students thought that protecting the earth should start from us and start from
our side. But they didn't realize that what we can do in front of our eyes is to
build a better campus environment. Because we had a beautiful environment of the
campus, there are not harmonious picture does exist: the packing bag of the
classmates after eating snacks, milk box is everywhere disorderly throw, the
classmates of paper also don't pick up after using it, go to where, just throw
some schoolmates also damage the trees of the school - picking flowers, trample,
so we didn't have a beautiful campus also.
Even the ancients knew that "to take it, to use it, and to use it," is our
21st century flower not to understand? We in fact as long as pay attention to
these things around, see the garbage only an action, bent down to pick up the
dustbin, see damage just a reminder, our school will return to their former
appearance!
Start with me, start small, start from the side, start from now. Protect
mother earth, purify our campus!

now none of this is to say that social skills are unimportant, and im also not calling for the abolishing of teamwork at all. the same religions who send their sages off to lonely mountain tops also teach us love and trust. and the problems that we are facing today in fields like science and in economics are so vast and so complex that we are going to need armies of people coming together to solve them working together. but i am saying that the more freedom that we give introverts to be themselves, the more likely that they are to come up with their own unique solutions to these problems.
so now id like to share with you whats in my suitcase today. guess what? books. i have a suitcase full of books. heres margaret atwood, “cats eye.“ heres a novel by milan kundera. and heres “the guide for the perplexed“ by maimonides. but these are not exactly my books. i brought these books with me because they were written by my grandfathers favorite authors.
my grandfather was a rabbi and he was a widower who lived alone in a small apartment in brooklyn that was my favorite place in the world when i was growing up, partly because it was filled with his very gentle, very courtly presence and partly because it was filled with books. i mean literally every table, every chair in this apartment had yielded its original function to now serve as a surface for swaying stacks of books. just like the rest of my family, my grandfathers favorite thing to do in the whole world was to read.
but he also loved his congregation, and you could feel this love in the sermons that he gave every week for the 62 years that he was a rabbi. he would takes the fruits of each weeks reading and he would weave these intricate tapestries of ancient and humanist thought. and people would come from all over to hear him speak.
but heres the thing about my grandfather. underneath this ceremonial role, he was really modest and really introverted -- so much so that when he delivered these sermons, he had trouble making eye contact with the very same congregation that he had been speaking to for 62 years. and even away from the podium, when you called him to say hello, he would often end the conversation prematurely for fear that he was taking up too much of your time. but when he died at the age of 94, the police had to close down the streets of his neighborhood to accommodate the crowd of people who came out to mourn him. and so these days i try to learn from my grandfathers example in my own way.
A bottle had fallen down, with half of its water pouring out. To the scene,
two men responded
differently, one man, feeling extremely sad, his hand covering his face,
sighed ”All has gone!” The other seemed much more optimistic. He ran happily to
raise up the bottle and said with great gratitude ”There is still some water
left.”
Why did the two people have such distinct reaction? It is because they
judged the situation from opposite perspectives. After the bottle fell, the
pessimistic observer focused on the losses thereby thinking negatively, while
the other observer noticed the remaining liquid and then had a positive opinion.
Actually, the fallen bottle is a symbol of unfortunate circumstances in life and
the two kinds of responses reflect two different attitudes towards
misfortunes.
Misfortunes mean obvious losses; however , they still bring latest
opportunities to people with optimistic mind. From the perspective of optimists,
firing a career disaster , will be a reminder of the necessity for an urgent
improvement in their personality or expensive sensing the signal for change,
those optimists will strive to achieve personal growth, the growth which
provides a guarantee to healthier career development in the future. Misfortunes
are blessings in disguise and optimism can unlock the cover. Therefore, in the
face of misfortunes people should adopt an optimistic attitude.

Pubs are an important part of British life. Even very small villages nearly always have a pub. People especially men, will often go to the pub for a drink in the evening and at weekends. A man will usually go to the same pub, one which is closed by and which is called the local: I'm just nipping down to the local for a print. Women now go to pubs more than they used to, but usually don not like to go to a pub on their own. Children under 16 are not usually allowed into pubs, although some pubs have a children's room or a garden where children can sit.
Until 1988, pubs were only allowed to be open from 12:00 am to 2:00 pm alcoholic drink can be sold in a public place are called the licensing laws. Even though the law was changed so that alcohol can now be sold all day, many pubs still only pen at lunchtime and in the evening. When it is nearly time for the pub to close, the landlord or landlady shouts "last orders" and then "time".
Pubs often sell food or snacks as well as drinks. Food that is considered typical pub food is scampi (kind of shellfish) and chips (fried potatoes), pie and chips, chicken and chips, and ploughman's lunch (bread with cheese)。
Pubs have names, For example: The Angel, The Black Swan, The Crown, The King's Arms, The Red Lion, The White Horse, etc. and people usually refer to the pub by its name: Turn left at the Rose and Crown. There is often a sing outside the pub showing the name with a picture.
Many pubs have two or more different bars. The public bar is usually plainly furnished and often has a pool table and dartboard. It is the bar usually used by the local people. The saloon bar is comfortable and well-furnished and is the bar that is usually used by men and woman drinking together.
Graduates of Yale University, I apologize if you have endured this type of prologue before, but I want you to do something for me. Please, take a ood look around you. Look at the classmate on your left. Look at the classmate on your right. Now, consider this: five years from now, 10 years from now, even 30 years from now, odds are the person on your left is going to be a loser. The person on your right, meanwhile, will also be a loser. And you, in the middle? What can you expect? Loser. Loserhood. Loser Cum Laude.
"In fact, as I look out before me today, I don't see a thousand hopes for a bright tomorrow. I don't see a thousand future leaders in a thousand industries. I see a thousand losers.
"You're upset. That's understandable. After all, how can I, Lawrence 'Larry' Ellison, college dropout, have the audacity to spout such heresy to the graduating class of one of the nation's most prestigious institutions? I'll tell you why. Because I, Lawrence "Larry" Ellison, second richest man on the planet, am a college dropout, and you are not.
"Because Bill Gates, richest man on the planet -- for now, anyway -- is a college dropout, and you are not.
"Because Paul Allen, the third richest man on the planet, dropped out of college, and you did not.
"And for good measure, because Michael Dell, No. 9 on the list and moving up fast, is a college dropout, and you, yet again, are not.
"Hmm . . . you're very upset. That's understandable. So let me stroke your egos for a moment by pointing out, quite sincerely, that your diplomas were not attained in vain. Most of you, I imagine, have spent four to five years here, and in many ways what you've learned and endured will serve you well in the years ahead. You've established good work habits. You've established a network of people that will help you down the road. And you've established what will be lifelong relationships with the word 'therapy.' All that of is good. For in truth, you will need that network. You will need those strong work habits. You will need that therapy.
"You will need them because you didn't drop out, and so you will never be among the richest people in the world. Oh sure, you may, perhaps, work your way up to No. 10 or No. 11, like Steve Ballmer. But then, I don't have to tell you who he really works for, do I? And for the record, he dropped out of grad school. Bit of a late bloomer.
"Finally, I realize that many of you, and hopefully by now most of you, are wondering, 'Is there anything I can do? Is there any hope for me at all?' Actually, no. It's too late. You've absorbed too much, think you know too much. You're not 19 anymore. You have a built-in cap, and I'm not referring to the mortar boards on your heads.
"Hmm... you're really very upset. That's understandable. So perhaps this would be a good time to bring up the silver lining. Not for you, Class of '00. You are a write-off, so I'll let you slink off to your pathetic $200,000-a-year jobs, where your checks will be signed by former classmates who dropped out two years ago.
"Instead, I want to give hope to any underclassmen here today. I say to you, and I can't stress this enough: leave. Pack your things and your ideas and don't come back. Drop out. Start up.
"For I can tell you that a cap and gown will keep you down just as surely as these security guards dragging me off this stage are keeping me down . . ."
(At this point The Oracle CEO was ushered off stage.)

Dear teachers and students,
Hello! Today, my topic is "protecting the environment and everyone isresponsible".
Throughout the ages, earths mother has nurtured countless generations ofchildren with sweet milk. She was beautifully decorated by her children. Now,however, the human race tormented her for its own sake. Man has only one earth; And the earth is facing a severe environmental crisis. "Save the earth" hasbecome the most powerful voice of people all over the world.
Students, we are the small masters of the earth, environmental awareness isthe important symbol of modern people. We should establish a sense ofresponsibility in The Times. Focus on the world and focus on the campus. To pickup the scraps of paper with a bent waist; Dont throw about; Take a few moresteps, dont pass through the green belt, trampling green space. "It is incumbenton all of us to save resources and protect the environment. We need to startfrom now, start from our side, start small. Through our efforts, the sky of themotherland is bluer, the land is greener, the water is clearer. Whether it isthe past, present, or future, whether it is family, country, or the world, theenvironment is always our friend, to be kind to our friends, to be kind toourselves.
"There is only one earth", let us protect our homeland together.

General Introduction
I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong
University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I
am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.
Education background
In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology
(NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During
the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among
the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I
got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission
test.
At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5%
in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is
given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer
Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the
ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university.
Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of
Excellent Graduation Thesis.
Research experience and academic activity
When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to
narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and
Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It
is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled
a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This
was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.
In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and
experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research
interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research
(especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid
system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

We know it is difficult to learn English. My English is very good. I learn English like this.
I Listen to the teacher carefully and write the important points down on my notebooks. After class I revise the lessons. Before class I prepare new lessons to find out the questions. Then I will listen carefully in class.

I keep a diary every day to practise my written English.
Besides this, I often read English newspapers and magazines to enrich my knowlege on English culture.
We will learn English well so long as we learn it hard.
