to have this opportunity/chance to introduce myself. I would like to answer

whatever you may raise, and I hope I can make a good performance today.

I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong

University, P. R. China. Withtremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am

writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.

In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology

(NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During

the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among

the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I

got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission

test.

At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5%

in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is

given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer

Scholarship as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the

ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my university.

Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of

Excellent Graduation Thesis.

Research experience and academic activity

When a sophomore, I joined the Association of AI Enthusiast and began to

narrow down my interest for my future research. With the tool of OpenGL and

Matlab, I designed a simulationprogram for transportation scheduling system. It

is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled

a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewagetreatment plant. This

was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.

In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and

experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research

interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research

(especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid

system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

20xx年4月22号，在湖大知行学院外语系英语教研室的支持下，在外语系辅导老师的极力倡导和外语系学习部的积极准备下，为了促进同学们间的交流，丰富大学生活业余生活，特举办“知行杯”外语系演讲比赛，并获得了圆满成功。

本次比赛分为三个环节：即兴演讲，故事接龙，听力互动。每个环节都进行的相当顺利。

在第一轮中，20名选手相继上场进行演讲，他们发音地道，抑扬顿挫，台下的观众全神贯注地聆听。值得一提的是，本次的演讲题目都涉及了最近的热门话题，比如HD 事件，，和服事件，鸟巢冠名出售，兽首拍卖，可口可乐收购汇源果汁产权等，选手们对此发表自己的观点，思路明了，言辞犀利。

第二轮的故事接龙也非常有趣。四名选手组成一组，随即抽题，然后根据惟妙惟肖的PPT提示，开始比赛。这同样是本次比赛的 一个新增板块，选手们通过动画视频续故事，内容新颖直观。这是对选手们的反应能力和口语能力的极大挑战，也是对竞争对手间的团队合作精神的严格考验，要求极高，但他们依旧很出色的完成了。

第三轮的听力互动环节将全场气氛推向了高潮。此环节中，有八段听力对话，每段对话后都有一个问题，观众需要从大屏幕中的四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。值得一提的是，听力题目都来自大英四级的 听力选择题，而在活动中，台下观众也都踊跃参加，台上台下融成一体。

总之这次比赛是很成功的。比赛的各项工作做的比较充分，项管理工作秩序井然。赛前学习部做了细致周密的准备工作，赛中在教研室老师的监督下按照严格的评分标准和各项程序进行，体现了比赛的公平、公正、公开的原则，保证了演讲比赛的高水平和高质量。收尾工作也顺利完成。

通过此次比赛，我们收获了丰硕的成果，不仅提高了同学们的演讲水平，增强了英语口语能力，促进了同学们英语学习的热情，而且为同学们积累了丰富的经验，让同学们从中学到确实有用的东西。同时为我院营造了良好的学习风气，为同学们提供了一个学习和交流的平台，促进了同学们之间的友谊，也为我们学习英语美好的明天奠定了坚实的基础。

Ten to one, he is bound to make a fortune.I do not like such men as spend their money in a wrong way. They do not know extravagance is a bad thing. It can only make them happy for the time being. In short, thrift makes poor men rich and extravagance makes rich men poor.

I have lived for six years, and I have a deep love for it. Not only can you

form a good study habit here, you can also study and live in a beautiful

environment.

Recently we learned the lesson about protecting the environment. The

students thought that protecting the earth should start from us and start from

our side. But they didn't realize that what we can do in front of our eyes is to

build a better campus environment. Because we had a beautiful environment of the

campus, there are not harmonious picture does exist: the packing bag of the

classmates after eating snacks, milk box is everywhere disorderly throw, the

classmates of paper also don't pick up after using it, go to where, just throw

some schoolmates also damage the trees of the school - picking flowers, trample,

so we didn't have a beautiful campus also.

Even the ancients knew that "to take it, to use it, and to use it," is our

最近一段时间以来，我看到许多同学已经在准备和制作一些贺卡了，因为圣诞节就要到了。12月25日，是基督教徒纪念耶稣诞生的日子，称为圣诞节。如果说耶稣创造了西方精神世界的平台---基督教，而孔子的“仁和礼”使中华民族在20xx多年的时间里一直处于世界的领跑位置。自从改革开放以来，西方许多的东西进入我国，这并无可厚非，这也是中国融入世界的必由之路。但我们在接受这些的时候，不要只看到这些的表面，我们还要学习和领会他们的内涵和精髓。耶稣开创的基督教，使得《圣经》成为人们精神的力量源泉。在《圣经》中，它包含了征服、勇敢、团结、责任这些精神。正是在它的指引下，欧洲度过了多难的中世纪。每年的圣诞节，是西方人盘点一年收获和许下美好愿望的时刻-----而不是简单的欢庆和玩乐!同学们：你也盘点自己一年的收获了吗?你有没有对自己的这一年的学习和生活习惯方式进行一些梳理与总结?你对来年有什么憧憬和期待吗?做为北大附中的一名学生，我们学校目标是：“培养有中国灵魂和世界眼光的现代人”。

我们在接受西方节日的同时，更应该学习西方国家人们的素质和修养--这恰恰是我们改进和提高的东西，这恰恰也是基督精神的精髓所在!

我想给同学们讲两个故事：一个是在美国发生9.11恐怖袭击的当时，在世贸大楼遭到袭击后，人们不是惊慌失措地逃生;在狭窄的楼道里，男人在给妇女和儿童让路，年轻人在给老人让路。更让人难以忘怀的是，大楼里停电后，有许多十几岁甚至是几岁的孩子，他们举着蜡烛，在楼梯口给逃生的人照亮道路，他们也因此失去了生还的机会。这种勇敢、责任和团结精神在我们身上有多少呢?我们有许多同学在排队打饭、吃饭的时候出现拥挤、插队等现象?有的同学还为此挥拳相向。我们有没有为自己的不良行为有过反思呢?

另一个故事是我国现任外经贸部副部长龙永图在德国的亲身经历。他在德国参加中国入世谈判期间，有一次去公园游玩，发现有一个男孩子跟随了他们很长时间，他以为是个乞丐，就问他为什么一直跟着他，让这位部长尴尬的是，小男孩说他看到一位代表团的成员随手扔了一个香蕉皮，他怕代表团再随手抛弃垃圾，破坏环境，所以一直跟着他们。还有一次他等着去厕所，发现一个小男孩子进去了好长时间还没有出来，他不知道小男孩子在做什么，就进去看，发现小男孩子在吃力地修弄马桶。小男孩子说在他使用过程中马桶坏了，他有义务和责任修好。这两件事成为龙永图在谈判期间感受最深的事情，也说明我们在这些方面做的很不好。就是在我们身边，不要说我们主动拣垃圾，而是随手丢弃垃圾的现象时有发生，有的同学还故意把自己弄的垃圾投向别人的旁边来逃避责任，有的同学在餐厅用餐后自己的餐盘都等着叔叔阿姨收拾。每周五的放假，等我们上了回家的班车后校园的很多地方都有垃圾覆盖。不要说修复自己弄坏的公物，有的同学故意毁坏公物，不以为耻反以为荣。等等这些，我们应该认真反思自己的行为，应该认真学习领会西方基督精神中的勇敢团结责任意识了!

无论我们纪念哪位伟人的诞辰，耶稣也好，孔子也好，这个日子并不是欢乐的日子，而是让每个参与的人反思自己行为和播种希望的日子。同学们，我也希望你们能在即将到来的圣诞节和新年的时刻，总结一年来的得失，制定明年的计划，憧憬美好的未来。

今天是全世界热烈庆祝的大日子!因为20xx年前，在以色列伯利恒的地方，弥赛亚(也就是救世主)降生了!然而我们却发现，所谓的普天同庆，如今却已慢慢沦为嘉年华会式的狂欢，甚至因狂欢过度，每年都有许多人丧命!这已远远背离耶稣降生的意义。因此，在这儿我要和大家一起分享耶稣降生的故事，以及其中所蕴含的意义。

当年，以色列尚在罗马政权统治之下。罗马人为了统计百姓的人数，於是下令所有的人都要回本籍地报名上册(就像现在的户口普查)。於是耶稣的父亲-约瑟，就带著因圣灵感孕而身怀六甲的妻子-马利亚，由定居地-加利利的拿撒勒赶回本籍地-犹大的伯利恒。由於回来报名上册的人太多了，每家旅馆都客满，而马利亚临盆在即。在约瑟的苦苦央求下，一位好心的旅馆老板让他们借住在马房，於是，当晚耶稣就降生在马槽中。

当耶稣降生的那一刻，在伯利恒野地里看守羊群的牧羊人，忽然见到上帝派来的使者站在他们旁边，告诉他们救世主已经降生的好消息。同时出现了一大队的天兵，和那位天使高声的赞美上帝说：「在至高之处荣耀归与上帝，在地上平安归与他所喜悦的人」。这是第一支报佳音的队伍，也就是后来每年的圣诞节，基督徒都会四处报佳音的由来。

从耶稣的降生，我们可以得到两个启示：

1、学习他谦卑的态度。

根据圣经的记载，耶稣是救世主，应当是无上光荣的，但他却选择降生在马槽这麼卑微的地方，正显现出他的谦卑。他曾说：「我来是要服事人，而不是要被人服事」;又说：「我心柔和谦卑，你们当负我的轭」;他更曾为门徒一一洗脚。这些在在显明他的谦卑。我们行事为人，是否也该学习他这谦卑的样式?

2、追求心灵上真正的平安。

人生在世，难免会遭遇困厄灾祸。於是，很多人就用各种方式祈求灾祸不要临到他的身上，也因此产生了各种忌讳：这个不能做，那个不能吃;早上出门要朝东走，晚上回家时要先朝南走……等。只要有一点闪失，就整天害怕担心，这是真正的平安吗?我认为真正的平安是，即使遇到了灾祸，心里也不会惊慌失措。因为你知道有一位比你更有能力的人，他可以为你分愁解忧，他可以为你承担一切的重担，如同婴儿安睡在父母的怀抱中，无惧外面的狂风暴雨。这是多麼令人喜乐的事啊!

如今，我已找到了心灵上真正的平安，不知你们找到了没?

什么是圣诞节呢?每年的12月25日，是西方基督教徒纪念耶稣诞生的日子，称为圣诞节。从12月24日到1月6日为圣诞节节期，是一年中最盛大的节日，就像我国的春节。

今天是20xx年12月24日，是平安夜!在美国，晚上，全家人会团聚在客厅，围在圣诞树旁唱歌跳舞，互送礼物。他们还把家门口的树上都挂上彩灯，比谁有创意。灯一亮，很远就能看见闪闪发亮的树的轮廓，非常漂亮。一群可爱的小孩子，会手拿诗歌弹着吉他，一家一家的唱着诗歌报佳音。孩子们晚上会在壁炉上悬挂圣诞袜，因为据说圣诞老人会驾着驯鹿雪橇，满载着礼物，送给这一年来表现很好的小朋友。他会悄悄地从烟囱爬进屋内，把礼物塞进挂在床头的袜子里。当然，实际上，这些礼物都是爸爸妈妈塞进袜子里的。过了今天明天就是圣诞节!你们看我今天特地戴了一个圣诞帽，明天啊我还要在枕头旁边放一只袜子，等圣诞老人晚上偷偷的放礼物进去，圣诞节是外国人一年中最盛大的节日,就象我们中国的新年一样，都会有很隆重的仪式。

圣诞节也是我们小朋友狂欢的节日，我们可以一起唱圣诞歌，和好朋友一起互相赠送礼物，说祝福的话。

圣诞节是我最喜爱的节日了。它虽然不是我国的节日，但是我还是喜欢它，因为我曾在小学时过了一个令人感到愉快的圣诞节。

在那一天，老师让我们准备了圣诞袜和圣诞帽等过圣诞节时必须的物品。

早上，刚一进校门，便可听见悠扬的乐声，放眼望去，远处有两个“圣诞老人”，其中一个正抱着萨克斯演奏着圣诞节的音乐，

而另外一个呢?他已被同学围的寸步难行了，原来是发糖果的，我也激动起来了，早已把寒冷忘得一干二净了，向圣诞老人奔去，挤进了人群，终于抢到了几颗糖果。

到了中午，我们几个同学很早就赶了过来，忙着装扮教室，这里一个气球，那里一根彩带;这里一个老人头，那里再贴上些装饰品，

大家忙的满头大汗，“功夫负不负有心人”，近一个小时的努力，我们终于把教室装扮得既干净又漂亮。

我们的舞会开始了，大家一起唱啊，跳啊，有时还猜几个谜语，玩几个游戏，看起来既开心又激动。

首先你要明白，演讲稿不是普通的英文文章，它是一篇热情洋溢，激情四射的阐述你的观点的文章，它必须能够吸引听众的注意!一篇好的演讲稿应该能够很清楚的一开始就让听众知道你在说什么，做到这一点并不容易，因为有时太过于直接会让大家感到突如其来，应该有一定的缓冲。我看了很多外国名人的演讲后总结出以下几种形式：

①. 问候天气，然后 转入正题。

②. 寒暄。如：Good morning!I’m very glad stand here and give you a talk.

③. 开门见山。如：Good morning!Today I stand here to talk about…

有了好的开头，在演讲稿中，为了调动大家的激情，可以多运用排比句，在这点上美国的著名演讲家：Martin Luther

King,Jr.可以称的上是专家。

2.充分熟背演讲稿件

因为如果拿着稿子去演讲的话，听众大都会认为你准备不充分，一开始就无法被你的内容所吸引。同时，这也会给别人一个信号：你的信心不充足。所以，背过它，背的滚瓜烂熟!这才能保证别人会被你吸引住。背过了演讲稿，是处理它的时候了，什么地方该停顿，什么地方语气该加重，什么地方要快读，什么地方要慢读，都要细细斟酌!可以这么说，语气在很大的程度上决定你演讲的成功!

3.丰富合体的肢体语言

动作在演讲中也是很重要的。对着镜子，仔细想想，自己应该怎么加动作，在什么地方加合适。一般来说，在语气强的时候，手要上扬，不要太夸张，也不能太拘谨。在这方面，千万不敢急，要用心体会，多实践!

We must live up to the calling we share. Civility is not a tactic or a sentiment. It is the determined choice of trust over cynicism， of community over chaos. And this commitment， if we keep it， is a way to shared accomplishment.

America， at its best， is also courageous.

Our national courage has been clear in times of depression and war， when defending common dangers defined our common good. Now we must choose if the example of our fathers and mothers will inspire us or condemn us. We must show courage in a time of blessing by confronting problems instead of passing them on to future generations.

Together， we will reclaim America's schools， before ignorance and apathy claim more young lives.

We will reform Social Security and Medicare， sparing our children from struggles we have the power to prevent. And we will reduce taxes， to recover the momentum of our economy and reward the effort and enterprise of working Americans.

And whatever our views of its cause， we can agree that children at risk are not at fault. Abandonment and abuse are not acts of God， they are failures of love.

And the proliferation of prisons， however necessary， is no substitute for hope and order in our souls.

Where there is suffering， there is duty. Americans in need are not strangers， they are citizens; not problems， but priorities. And all of us are diminished when any are hopeless.

Government has great responsibilities for public safety and public health， for civil rights and common schools. Yet compassion is the work of a nation， not just a government.

And some needs and hurts are so deep they will only respond to a mentor's touch or a pastor's prayer. Church and charity， synagogue and mosque lend our communities their humanity， and they will have an honored place in our plans and in our laws.

Many in our country do not know the pain of poverty， but we can listen to those who do.

And I can pledge our nation to a goal： When we see that wounded traveler on the road to Jericho， we will not pass to the other side.

America， at its best， is a place where personal responsibility is valued and expected.

Encouraging responsibility is not a search for scapegoats， it is a call to conscience. And though it requires sacrifice， it brings a deeper fulfillment. We find the fullness of life not only in options， but in commitments. And we find that children and community are the commitments that set us free.

Our public interest depends on private character， on civic duty and family bonds and basic fairness， on uncounted， unhonored acts of decency which give direction to our freedom.

Sometimes in life we are called to do great things. But as a saint of our times has said， every day we are called to do small things with great love. The most important tasks of a democracy are done by everyone.

I will live and lead by these principles： to advance my convictions with civility， to pursue the public interest with courage， to speak for greater justice and compassion， to call for responsibility and try to live it as well.

In all these ways， I will bring the values of our history to the care of our times.

What you do is as important as anything government does. Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know： our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.

Dragon Boat Festival in China.

I feel honored to tell you about it. Celebrated on May 5th in the lunar

calendar, it is a folk festival having a history of more than two thousand

years. Also, it is one of the most important festivals in China.

As for the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival, there are many beautiful

legends, of which the story about Qu Yuan is most widely accepted. Qu Yuan, a

Chinese poet who loved his country deeply, drowned himself in the Miluo River

after his country’s being defeated. To honor him, people in China hold various

activities every year, including eating zongzi and dragon boat racing.

people have the balls and into the river, so there is the custom of eating

zongzi, people are the brother of wine poured into the river, so have a drink

realgar wine the custom.

The festival is best known for its dragon-boat races,especially in the

southern places where there are many rivers and lakes. It's very popular.

The rice dumpling is made of glutinous rice,meat and so on. You can eat

different kinds of rice dumplings.They are very delicious.And Dragon Boat

Festival is for Qu Yuan. He is an honest minister who is said to have committed

suicide by drowning himself in a river.
