Once upon a time there was an old fisherman. He went fishing very early every morning, but he never cast his net more than four times a day.

One morning,he went out early to the sea. He cast his net for the first time, and drew in the body of an animal. He cast it a second time, and drew in an old basket full of sand. He cast it a third time, and drew in a lot of stones. It seemed he would have nothing to take home that morning.

Day had now broken, and he cast his net for last time. After some time,he began to draw the net in. He found it was very heavy. But there were not any fish in it. Instead he found a jar with a lid. He shook the jar,but could hear nothing. So he took off the lid and looked inside. He could see nothing. After a while a light smoke came slowly out of the jar. Then little by little, the smoke grew heavier and thicker till finally it turned into a terrible Genie!

"Get down on your knees," said the Genie,"for I'm going to kill you."

"Why?Didn't I set you free from the jar?"

"That's why I'm going to kill you,but I'll let you choose how you're going to die."

"But why?"

"Listen, and I will tell you my story."

"I was one of the spirits in heaven. But I did not want to obey Solomon's orders. So one day,he put me in this jar and threw it into the sea.

"During the first hundred years of my stay in the sea,I made a promise that if anyone set me free I would make him very rich. But no one came. During the second hundred years,I promised that if anyone set me free I would show him all the treasures in the world. But still no one came. During the third hundred years,I promised that if anyone came to set me free,I would make him king over the earth.

"Still no one came. Then I became very angry, and decided that if anyone should set me free I would kill him at once. Now you have come and set me free. So you must die,but I will let you say how you want to die."

The fisherman was not frightened. He said: "Since I must die,I must. But before I die, answer me one question."

"All right,but be quick."

"Were you really in the jar?You are so big and the jar is so small that it could hardly hold one of your feet."

"Of course I was in the jar. Don't you believe me?"

"No,and I won't until I've seen you in the jar with my own eyes."

When he heard this, the Genie changed into smoke. Slowly the smoke went back into the jar. When all of it was in the jar,the fisherman quickly put the lid on and threw it back into the sea.

Hi, everybody. This Sunday is Father’s Day, and so I wanted to take a

moment to talk about the most important job many of us will ever have and that’s

being a dad.

Today we’re blessed to live in a world where technology allows us to

connect instantly with just about anyone on the planet. But no matter how

advanced we get, there will never be a substitute for the love and support and,

most importantly, the presence of a parent in a child’s life. And in many ways,

that’s uniquely true for fathers.

I never really knew my own father. I was raised by a single mom and two

wonderful grandparents who made incredible sacrifices for me. And there are

single parents all across the country who do a heroic job raising terrific kids.

But I still wish I had a dad who was not only around, but involved; another role

model to teach me what my mom did her best to instill – values like hard work

and integrity; responsibility and delayed gratification – all the things that

give a child the foundation to envision a brighter future for themselves.

That’ s why I try every day to be for Michelle and my girls what my father

was not for my mother and me. And I’ve met plenty of other people – dads and

uncles and men without a family connection –who are trying to break the cycle

and give more of our young people a strong male role model.

Being a good parent – whether you’re gay or straight; a foster parent or a

grandparent – isn’t easy. It demands your constant attention, frequent

sacrifice, and a healthy dose of patience. And nobody’s perfect. To this day,

I’m still figuring out how to be a better husband to my wife and father to my

kids.

And I want to do what I can as President to encourage marriage and strong

families. We should reform our child support laws to get more men working and

engaged with their children. And my Administration will continue to work with

the faith and other community organizations, as well as businesses, on a

campaign to encourage strong parenting and fatherhood.

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned along the way, it’s that all our

personal successes shine a little less brightly if we fail at family. That’s

what matters most. When I look back on my life, I won’t be thinking about any

particular legislation I passed or policy I promoted. I’ll be thinking about

Michelle, and the journey we’ve been on together. I’ll be thinking about Sasha’s

dance recitals and Malia’s tennis matches –about the conversations we’ve had and

the quiet moments we’ve shared. I’ll be thinking about whether I did right by

them, and whether they knew, every day, just how much they were loved.

That’s what I think being a father is all about. And if we can do our best

to be a source of comfort and encouragement to our kids; if we can show them

unconditional love and help them grow into the people they were meant to be;

then we will have succeeded.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, and have a great weekend.

A broken mirror joined together

During the Southern and Northern Dynasties (420-589), there lived a beautiful, intelligent princess name Lechang in the State Chen. She and her husband Xu Deyan loved each other dearly. But before long their country was in danger of being invaded by the troops of the Sui Dynasty. Princess Lechang and Xu Deyan had a premonition that their county would be occupied by the invaders and they would have to leave the palace and go into exile. During the chaos they might lose touch with each other. They broke a bronze mirror, a symbol of the unity of husband and wife into two parts and each of them kept a half. They aGREed that each would take their half of the mirror to the fair during the Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th day of the first Lunar month, in the hope that would meet again. When they were united the two halves would join together. Soon their premonition came true. During the chaos of war, the princess lost touch with her husband was taken to a powerful minister Yang Su's house and was made his mistress.

At the Lantern Festival the next year, Xu Deyan took his half of the mirror to the fair. He hoped that he could meet his wife. It so happened that a servant was selling the other half of the bronze mirror. Xu Deyan recognized it immediately. He asked the servant about his wife. As he heard about her bitter experience, tears rolled down his cheeks. Xu Deyan wrote a poem on the half of the mirror kept by his wife: "You left me with your broken mirror Now the mirror is back but not you I can no longer see your reflection in the mirror Only the bright moon but not you" .

the servant brought back the inscribed half of the mirror to princess Lechang. For days, she could not help sobbing because she knew her husband was still alive and that he missed her but they could not meet forever.

the minister, Yang Su, found this out. He was also moved by their true love and realized it was impossible to get Lechang's love. So he sent for Xu Deyan and allowed the husband and wife to reunite.

From that story comes the idiom "A broken mirror joined together".

It is used to suggest the happy reunion of a separated couple.

measure of this great opportunity merely to recite, however hopefully, pious

platitudes.

Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a

terrible accident on the ground. But weve never lost an astronaut in flight.

Weve never had a tragedy like this. And perhaps weve forgotten the courage it

took for the crew of the shuttle. But they, the Challenger Seven, were aware of

the dangers, but overcame them and did their s brilliantly. We mourn seven

heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison

Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe. We mourn their loas a nation

together.

And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of who were watching the

live coverage of the shuttles take-off. I know its hard to understand, but

sometimes painful things like this happen. Its all part of the proceof

exploration and discovery. Its all part of taking a chance and expanding mans

horizons. The future doesnt belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave.

The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and well continue to follow

them.

Well continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and

more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in

space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.

a woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight。 she hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop。 she was engrossed in her book but happened to see that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be, grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene。 so she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock。

she was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking,"if i wasn't so nice, i would blacken his eye。" with each cookie she took, he took one too。 when only one was left, she wondered what he would do。 with a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half。 he offered her half, as he ate the other。

she snatched it from him and thought。。。oooh, brother。 this guy has some nerve and he's also rude。 why he didn't even show any gratitude! she had never known when she had been so galled and sighed with relief when her flight was called。 she gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the ingrate thief。

she boarded the plane, and sank in her seat。 then she sought her book, which was almost plete。 as she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise。 there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes。 if mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share。 too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief。

Lan and Fred were boys. They were both twelve years old, and they were in the same class in their school. Last Friday afternoon they had a fight in class, and their teacher was very angry. He said to both of them, “Stay here after the lessons this afternoon, and write your names a thousand times.” After the last lesson, all the other boys went home, but Lan and Fred stayed in the classroom with their teacher and begin writing their names.

Then Fred began crying.

The teacher looked at him and said,” Why are you crying, Fred?”

“Because his name’s Lan May, and mine’s Frederick Hollingsworth,” Fred said.
