Professor James Clark is founder of York’s Green Chemistry Centre for

Excellence and the world’s leading green chemistry journal, Green Chemistry. He

said: “We are now talking to producers of automobiles, electronics, furniture

and pharmaceuticals, people who need to use chemistry but don’t think of

themselves as chemists.”

As waste production legislation becomes increasingly strict, the

traditional emphasis on making as much of a chemical as possible is shifting

towards minimizing the waste that process creates. “A lot of chemicals are made

from petroleum, but we are developing sustainable ways to make carbon, typically

from biomass such as dead plants and trees,” said professor Clark.

Li Li, a 26-year-old Chinese postgraduate student, graduated from York in

Material waste: it means the waste of substance or things from which something else can be made. Nobody wants to use a broken window or drink with a broken glass or wear a pair of broken glasses. Once it is broken, it becomes waste. The rate of using plastics is increasing day by day. In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more

concrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of

environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be

environment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them know

that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.

亲爱的同学们： 你们好!

在前面的几次考试中，我都获得了不错的成绩，这一切首先要归功于我的努力，当然学习方式也是非常重要的。接下来我给各位介绍一下我的学习经验。

第一我觉得要想学习好先得对学习感兴趣。俗话说：“兴趣就是最好的老师。”有了兴趣才会对学习有动力，自然会越学越好。

第二，要想搞好学习，必须掌握好正确的学习方法，学会融会贯通，举一反三，这才是最重要的。在学习当中，我们的脑子里必须有三个字——“为什么”!聪明的人懂得说;智慧的人懂得听;高明的人懂得问。最后就是一定要勤奋，这是最重要的，连爱迪生都说“天才需要百分之九十九的汗水”。上课要认真听课，注意要多独立思考，不懂就要问，要锻炼自己的思维能力。要认真细致地做好老师布置的作业，决不能马虎。还有的是，要做好笔记，课前最好预习，先对课文有初步的了解，这对于接下来的课能更容易地吸收。课后也要进行复习，巩固好老师所讲的知识，打下坚实的基矗古人曾曰：“温故而知新，可以为师矣。”不也是这道理吗?最好要注意劳逸结合。只顾着死读书是没有用的，要让脑子适当地放松一下才行，比如打打球，听听音乐，看看电视新闻等。 最后我想说“你再强也不要和别人比，你再弱也要和自己比，你挑战过了自己，把以前的自己比下去了，你就会收获比别人强。”

The world we live in is becoming more and more intolerable because of environmental destruction. For example , forest destruction results in decrease of planting land and unpleasant weather. In addition, man is faced with problems of water pollution and air pollution. A lot of measures have been taken. Planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment. Besides, laws concerning environmental protection have been put into effect and achieved good results.However, the problem of environmental protection remains far from being solved. On the one hand, the environment pollution and destruction are getting worse and worse in the modern world. On the other hand, the lack of knowledge about the importance of protecting environment hinders the solving of the problem. In a word, there is a long way to go before we enjoy a clean and comfortable world.

The earth is our home, but also our mother. Earth free supply us all kinds

of resources, but we still for a little petty profit, regardless of the

consequences of wanton to destroy her. As the only one earth, "the article said,

we can't count on destroyed the earth moving to other planets, the earth if

lost, then fell to the earth's fate will eventually befall humans. So we too

late, too late, to protect our earth, care for the environment, I suggest you to

do the following:

1. Cherish now every mouthful of air, as far as possible to reduce the

number of the factory, industrial waste gas will be less. The good news is, we

see the government has put many polluting factories, rectification within a time

changed to natural gas, advocating walking with less cars, this is to protect

nature.

2. Don't abuse of various resources, such as coal, ore, wood, water... If

these resources are endless, is bound to form all kinds of resources depletion,

when people do not have the resources, we could not survive.

3. The water is the source of life, but it is too small. Although the

surface looks large area on earth is covered by water, but with less than one

over ten, an acute shortage of water in many cities, so, we should save water.

At present, the school advocates our toilet cistern in home put a mineral water

bottle, isn't it the measures to save water? Use to wash the dishes, the water

that clean out rice water the flowers, use wash clothes water to flush the

toilet, isn't it a to save water!

Although we have one or two people can't change the fate of the earth, but

as long as the whole nation is intravenous drip minor matter, starts from the

side to protect and cherish our earth, the earth can dazzle the smiling face of

youth!

地球是我们的家，同时也是我们的母亲。地球无偿的供给我们各种资源，而我们却还为了一点蝇头小利，不顾后果的肆意去破坏她。正如《只有一个地球》那篇文章所说的，我们不能再指望破坏了地球移居到别的星球上去，地球如果灭亡了，那么降临到地球上的命运终究也会降临到人类身上。所以我们亡羊补牢，为时不晚，保护我们的地球，爱护环境，我建议大家做到如下几点：

1.珍惜现在的每一口空气，把工厂的数量尽可能的减少，工业废气也会随之减少。可喜的是，我们看到政府已将许多重污染的工厂叫停，限期整改或迁移。我们还知道每家每户用的煤气已改成了天然气，倡导步行少用汽车，这都是保护大气的举措。我们还要多植树造林，森林不仅能呼出新鲜空气，还能净化空气。要制止乱砍伐森林的行为，要少破坏大自然。

2.不要滥用各种资源，如，煤、矿、木、水……如果这些资源被无止境的开采，必定会形成各种资源的枯竭，当人们没有资源时，我们就无法生存了。

3.水是生命的源泉，但是它又实在太少了。虽然表面看起来地球上大面积都被水覆盖，可是能用的却不到十分之一，许多城市严重缺水，所以，我们要节约用水。目前，学校倡导我们在家里的马桶水箱里放一个矿泉水瓶子，不正是节约用水的举措吗?用洗菜、淘米的水浇花，用洗衣服的水冲马桶，不正是为节约用水尽一份力嘛!

虽然我们一两个人改变不了地球的命运，但是只要全国人民都从身边的点滴小事做起，保护和珍惜我们的地球，地球就能炫出青春的笑脸!
