Dear _,
In my opinion, the Financial Engineering is a kind of creative technology
to the Financial Instruments, Financial Means and system. It used to balance the
benefits and venture as an interesting interdisciplinary subject. It covers many
fields such as mathematics, computer science and finance, in which the
mathematics and mathematical modeling are the two main aspects of the Financial
Engineering. The Investment Portfolio Theory of Markowitz, the capital asset
pricing model of the Sharp, Option Pricing Model of Black-Scholes and “Binomial”
model of Co_ can best reflect the critical position of the two subjects.
I am glad to choose mathematics and applied mathematics. Three years’ study
had deepened my understanding of them, especially of mathematical modeling. (It
still occurs to me when I went to attend the class of __ department given by
Professor Jiang qiyuan in Tsinghua University for the first time. “1 kilogram of
flour added with 1 kilogram of stuffing can make 100 dumplings, but what if the
stuffing is more than 1 kilogram?” He used a very simple, vivid and interesting
e_ample which aroused my interest and led me into the mathematical modeling
world.
The first time I kissed the mathematical modeling was in the summer
vacation of 2005, when I got a good opportunity to attend the mathematical
modeling training organized by our school. Seasoned mathematics teachers told me
what on earth the mathematical modeling is through some e_isting e_amples, in
which the one about SARS impressed me most. In 2003, SARS broke out and shrouded
rapidly to the whole world, which imperiled our economic development and
people’s living. Therefore, study on its spreading regularity and building the
mathematical modeling for predicting and controlling its e_tension had become
the “Archimedes Heels” for all mathematicians… So, the Logistic regression has
been carved in my memory. Two weeks’ training has presented me with a kind of
passion and calm thinking much more than just those classical mathematical
models. As the patron saint of our human-beings, the e_istence of Mathematics
and mathematical modeling are maintaining our subsistence and development. Then,
when SARS ran riot, when we are suffering from the pain of AIDS, what can I do
as a mathematics and mathematical modeling lover who loves life so much?
Pocketed with this passion and thinking, I tasted to use mathematical
modeling into practice and solve the practical problems by attending the
National College Mathematical Modeling Contest with the other two schoolmates on
behalf of our college. It required us to evaluate the water quality of
Changjiang River according to the data, through which we had to analyze the
water pollution in every region and predict the trend of it in the future.
Finally we had to bring out the plan against it. It was really a challenge for
us towards flood of data and estimations as long as 17 pages. We tried almost a
whole day only to filter those data and take the evaluations into comprehensive
account. Pulling down various models we had built before, we were so defeated
that we wanted to give up many times. However, we finally found the satisfactory
model thanks to our encouragement to each other which armed us with full
strength to go further. We managed to evaluate the water quality by Composite
inde_ model, which could not only represent the evaluation factors, but also
reflect the main impacts of the contaminations to the water pollution. We
predicted the future water pollution through multiple linear regressions fitting
and brought out the plan against it by building linear optimization model.
Finally, we got the second prize in Beijing for our thesis. Three days’ and
nights’ modeling e_perience had cooled our passion and gave us even more calm
thinking instead. The creation of the mathematical modeling, along with the
successful solution to the problems through it lied on the solid mathematics
foundation, strong modeling ability, accumulation of the knowledge on different
fields, unique creative ideas and creativity.
The e_perience from this contest further aroused my interest in
mathematics. I began to pay more attention to its application as well as
learning the theories. In addition, I tried to catch every opportunity to take
part in the practical mathematical modeling. My efforts finally rewarded when I
was in the first term as a junior. I had a chance to participate in the 3-day
electrician mathematical modeling practice-----classifying the sports programs
for a big sports meeting. Being familiar with the Graph Theory, I immediately
found the way to solve the problems by seeking the best Hamilton circuit line.
Facing the nearly 8.7 billion data files with different orders much more than
that on the National Mathematical Modeling Contest, I spent a long time on
Algorithm without any perfect result. I wasn’t defeated towards this case, but
so e_cited instead that I could have such a chance to challenge and improve
myself. Looking up dozens of files, I finally made a perfect end of the practice
by using the Genetic Algorithm into full account. It needs both a successful
model and an effective arithmetic to solve these problems. , which largely
shortened the operation time and improved the operation result. I learnt a lot
from this practice. I came to know that to build successful mathematics modeling
that can effectively solve the practical problems, we must take the operation
cost.
Summarizing my failures in the mathematical modeling electrician practice
and proceeding from my interest in this field, I began to think of collaborating
on the “Mathematical Modeling Saloon” with several students from mathematics and
computer departments, taking the Computer Algorithms and mathematical modeling
as the two themes of the book. Every Tuesday afternoon, we would organized those
students interested in this field to study and e_change the ideas and arithmetic
by imparting e_perience, sharing what we learnt, pondering together and
discussing with each other. Both the traditional transportation & storage
problems and the modern Stimulated Annealing Arithmetic (SAA), Ant Algorithm
have ever been the topic of our discussion, from which I have learnt many
thinking styles and methods to the problems from the students both in
mathematics and computer department. So far, I am e_cited to see that this
activity is still in the wind with more and more participants and it aroused a
learning upsurge in our college.
Recommended by my teacher, I have participated in the Teaching Reform
Program of Mrs. _ing yongli----the results analysis of “Improving the
mathematics teaching quality on class”. Mrs. _ing, along with some other
mathematics teachers e_perienced the class mutual activities in 2004 to 2005
with the character data files in form of paper investigations. For this style of
data files, I finally used the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as a creative
challenge instead of the fuzzy mathematical quantitative analysis models, which
firstly knocked my mind. By quantitating data and using the AHP, I succeeded in
analyzing how the overall quality of the teachers and their teaching skills work
in improving the mathematics teaching quality on class, from which we got the
conclusion that the teaching skills and the way to put forward questions on
class play the most important role in the class mutual activities. Besides, Mrs.
_ing collaborated with me on the thesis named “The Application of Analytic
Hierarchy Processinto the Evaluation of Class Mutual Activities”. Both of us
were satisfied with this thesis and contributed it to many presses to be
published.
Similar with the mathematical modeling, the soul of the Financial
Engineering is also the creativity. Therefore, the perfect application of the
mathematics and mathematical modeling into the Financial Engineering once more
surged my enthusiasm in this field. Furthermore, the Financial Engineering plays
the important part in people’s living, social stability and the national
development, which is my original intention to choose this field I think.
Yours sincerely,

Grade Point

Dear _,
From a very early age I remember pondering questions that were, to me,
seemingly unanswerable: what existed before the Big Bang? Why is a paperclip
attracted to a magnet? Now that I am older and have a wider knowledge of current
physics, I can contemplate other, more involved questions. How is it possible
that a cat can be alive and dead at the same time? What exactly is holding an
atom together? I am fascinated by these ideas and am hungry to learn the
theories needed to attempt to explain them. I welcome the prospect of spending
time and effort working with the scientific community to achieve a wider
appreciation of the world we live in and trying to attain a level of
understanding as high as is possible in a single lifetime.
My main interest within physics lies in quantum mechanics. About two years
ago I was shown a video on the Internet by an astounded friend that explained
the results of Young’s double slit experiment (using electrons) in relatively
simple terms. I was stunned to see that a single electron can pass through two
slits at once, but as soon as its path is observed it ‘decides’ to act in a
completely different manner! My ignorance of the topic created a desire for me
to learn more about this astonishing idea and so I read ‘Quantum: A Guide for
the Perplexed’ by Jim Al-Khallili. From this brilliant book I learnt about the
way in which the electron transforms into a probability wave or “wavefunction”
and interferes with itself after diffracting out of the slits. The book then
introduced me to complex applications of this experiment and, along with various
magazine and Internet articles, I clarified for myself intricate ideas such as
Schrodinger’s cat and quantum entanglement. I also read ‘The Trouble with
Physics’ by Lee Smolin in which he describes previous attempts at unification of
various ideas in physics, such as the successful unification of electricity and
magnetism, or the unsuccessful unification of light and sound. He then goes on
to explain one of the current attempts at the unification of all known forces
and particles – string theory. I feel that reading on these topics has prepared
me well for undergraduate physics and I am excited at the prospect of studying
at a higher level.
To familiarise myself with how physics can be used practically, I requested
a visit to the Quantum Optics and Laser Science Research Group at Imperial
College London. I assisted a PhD student and his supervisor every day for three
weeks in their ion-trapping project that aimed to shed light on quantum
computing. My main job was to build a circuit to power an electron beam. The
beam was used to form ions from calcium atoms, as ions are more easily
manipulated. However, the circuit had to be built in such a way that it would
automatically adjust the intensity of the beam to form just the right number of
ions.
In my spare time, I am generally found playing the drum kit. After passing
Grade 8 with distinction I have taken up teaching and play in four different
music groups: a concert band, a jazz group, a brass band and my own funk fusion
band. I enjoy performing in and around London and annually touring European
countries with the school concert band. To keep fit I play football and table
tennis with friends. Competitively, I have represented my school on a number of
occasions in football, rugby and athletics competitions.
Studying all three sciences and maths at A-level has given me the
opportunity to explore a wide range of different theories, techniques and
problems and has provided me with a broad scientific training base from which I
wish to develop further. All of these subjects pose exciting challenges, but my
main passion is for physics. I very much look forward to immersing myself in the
subject in future years whilst enjoying other challenges of university life.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
My deep interest in psychology started to develop after I read the books
"Owl in Love" and "Woman in the Wall" by Patrice Kindl. Of course, being only
twelve years old at the time, I was far from grasping the true depth of the
characters and the complex psychological net Kindl had been able to weave. Now,
reading them again, it seems to me as though the author had written not only a
fictional novel for children, but had actually filtered out character traits
that are in most of us, making them stronger and more noticeable, like shyness
or the wish of becoming something totally different to flee the hated world. The
books had fascinated and encouraged me to look at the people in my surrounding
much more closely, to try to figure out their differences and similarities as
well as to question why they might behave in that way.
I am a keen writer, both in English and German. To be able to create a
character that is unique and amiable, or simply just believable, one has to
understand why he or she would act in certain situations. It is easy to write
out of your own point of view, but actually understanding the characters you are
describing and being able to make their actions plausible takes a long thinking
process. You need to consider their family backgrounds, the decisions they made
in their lives and the preferences they have developed throughout the years.
That is what I love about psychology; that every person is shaped by
different influences. In this context I also find the nature-nurture debate very
interesting.
For two years now I have been studying psychology as one of my core topics
in high school choosing to take extra classes after school as well. This has
given me the opportunity to look into many different areas of the subject and I
have developed a particular interest in social and personality psychology.
I have also been studying ethics and philosophy and this has given me an
advantage in connecting certain themes with each other and creating opinions
that are very diverse and taken from different areas of the three courses.
Ethics, for example, has provided me with a deeper understanding of moral
themes, while philosophy has challenged some of my beliefs.
In 10th grade (05/06), at the age of fifteen, I had the opportunity to
spend six months studying abroad as an exchange student in France, which
perfected my French. This independent time I spent in a foreign culture gave me
a deeper understanding of my own inner strength and strong will. It was a
wonderful and rewarding time in which I was able to learn a lot besides a new
language, such as coping alone with completely new situations. This experience
widened my knowledge in terms of how strong humans can actually be, and so
further deepened my interest in psychology and the true capability of people.
Many friends I made there have stayed close and very dear to me.
I have no worries about studying in English as all my elementary schooling
was in English and my entire secondary education has been in a bilingual school
where half of the lessons, exams and assignments were in English.
I believe I would be a great asset to your university as I am a social,
life-loving person, who enjoys not only to study, but has also learnt to take on
responsibilities, is passionate about music - expressed in both dancing and
singing classes - and has loved to act in various school plays, often taking on
the leading parts. I am voted class representative and in this responsible
position I speak up for my classmates and organise various events.
I am especially looking forward to studying and living in Britain, having
travelled there a number of times, which has given me some insight into the
realities of living and the fortune of studying there.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
“Get out of here and never come back!” Forcefully pushed out of the pub, I
sat down against a nearby wall to scrub the dust off my shoes and regain my
composure. My pride was wounded, not because of the way they treated me, but
because they did not believe what I told them. It was the second time I had been
forced out of this particular pub, a place for gay gathering. This is part of my
research project “Health education model of preventing HIV/AIDS based on
employer-employee relationships”, which I was working on. I believed that in
order to effectively prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, employers, who are on the
top of business pyramid, should be first in line to know the disease well,
because they can leverage the sufficient resources necessary to exert great
influence on the disease prevention within their enterprises. This approach fits
the circumstances in China particularly well.
In face of this frustration, I didn’t give up trying. Before the start of
the project, the local center for disease control and prevention had already
counted the fifth reported case of AIDS virus infection, who later acknowledged
that he had once provided sex service in that club or dated his homosexual
partner. The devastating consequences if no intervention would be taken obliged
me to try other means. Working as a team, three friends joined my endeavor and
we handed out brochures outside the pub that introduced HIV/AIDS preventive
measures with the elaborately-designed slogan “We understand you by showing our
care to you!” Eventually, our persistence had been well paid off. Our respect of
their personal choice melted the toughness of the owner of the club and he
agreed to give a hand in sending the information to his employees and
clients.
My name is Yuan, Chen. I grew up in a Nanjing family, where my mother is a
senior experimentalist at the Key Lab of Reproductive Medicine of Jiangsu
Province. Because of her profession, our daily communication inevitably touched
on health-related issues like health care, disease control and prevention. She
showed me the importance of public health and its impact on all aspects of human
well-being. I was so intrigued by what my mother had devoted her life to that I
made up my mind to follow her footprint. My aspirations eventually led me to the
School of Public Health at Nanjing Medical University.
During my years of college study, I was recognized for my academic
performance and awarded with scholarships multiple times. Driven by curiosity
and a desire to enrich myself, I have come out top in my undergraduate class for
four straight years. Absolutely, college study is not only a matter of getting
perfect scores in the class, as I understand. Since my sophomore year, I began
to work on research projects at the Key Lab of Modern Toxicology of Ministry of
Education, which consists mainly of graduate students. I detected the effects of
pyrethroids (permethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalerate) and their major metabolite
3-phenoxybenzoic acid on rat sperm motility in vitro with a computer-assisted
sperm analysis (CASA) system and then published two papers in English. The
research work proved to be especially rewarding. It provided an opportunity for
me to apply what I had learned in the classroom so that I gained a deeper
understanding of it. But it also armed me with strong computer skills and
laboratory techniques.
The direct impact of public health on our society makes it not only an
academic subject, but also a social issue. Instilling a healthy life style
concept in the community through promotion of healthy habits is as important as
conducting research. Upon this comprehension, I took part in the Red Ribbon Peer
Association of my university, an organization which aims to bring HIV/AIDS peer
education to the public, and to help find treatment for those in need.
AIDS is a very sensitive topic that people are very reluctant to publicly
discuss in China, due to the innate conservatism of Chinese culture. Government
also avoids talking about it by blaming lack of information. Gradually, the
disease has become a forbidden zone full of controversy and misunderstanding in
the public eye. People have either not heard about it, or just do not know what
to do with it. Some are so scared of it that they do not want to have any
physical contact with infected people. Even in the health care industry, many
people do not have sufficient knowledge of it, according to our surveys.
However, in sharp contrast to the public’s ignorance are the brutal facts that
we can no longer turn a blind eye. It is estimated that in China, there are
740,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, and the number is still climbing rapidly
year by year. Each year, nearly half of the new reported cases are under
twenty-five.
As a group highlighting this sensitive issue in the face of people’s
traditional views, we met with much doubts, disbelief and resistance. Many
people openly mocked and shunned us. “AIDS is a western disease. How can it
appear here?” “I do not want to talk to AIDS patients because I do not want to
be infected.” “How is it possible for AIDS to be transmitted between man and
man?” “AIDS is an immoral disease, and as long as I do not have sex with people
who are immoral, I will be safe.” Faced with such benightedness, we used real
stories, persuasive data, and vivid pictures with scientific relevance to help
our “students” understand the disease, and we encouraged those concerned with
the issue to join our organization. Gradually, people started paying attention
and we gained some credibility within some special groups. For one of our
events, “Tell the truth”, we invited AIDS experts, patients, and health
officials on the same stage, discussing the issue face to face with the pubic.
This event gained so much attention after some high profile media reported it
that inquiries about our project flooded our mail boxes from all over the
country. During this windfall, we received funding support from businesses and
government, helping raise our project to a new level. Subsequently, we spent our
school breaks and vacations in holding exhibitions, hosting seminars, visiting
communities, and conducting surveys.
Undoubtedly, fighting against HIV/AIDS is an arduous task and the road is
long due to the traits of the virus—its variability and immune suppression. But
then, “even a journey of ten thousand miles is started with your first step”, as
an old Chinese saying goes, and I volunteer to become even an inch of what
builds up this first step. In recent years, China has made some progress on
HIV/AIDS prevention and control, but a lack of advanced concepts and expertise
poses a bottleneck problem to major breakthroughs. This is the reason why I turn
to developed countries like the United States. I am eager to receive systemic
and more advanced training in epidemiology in USA and aspire to future
leadership in public health in China. This has led my decision to apply for the
Epidemiology M.P.H. program in the School of Public Health at the University of
Michigan. Holding the belief that one’s ability is not limited by what he
already knows but what he is willing to learn and do, I am ready to become more
than just a professional in the field of public health, but in fact a
professional leader.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen

艺术硕士留学申请mfa通常要2-3封推荐信,一般准备2封来自专业导师的推荐信,1封来自实习单位的推荐信;

Dear _,

accompanied my father to his small coin shop and spent hours watching him work.
When I was older, I sometimes set up displays, waited on customers, and even
balanced the books. This experience instilled in me the desire to own and manage
my own business someday, yet I understand that the business world today is more
complex. This complexity requires more education, and with that in mind, I am
applying to the Master’s of Business Administration program at Indiana
University Bloomington (IUB).
In addition to my helping out in my father’s business, I have had numerous
other work experiences that further enhance my qualifications for this program.
My resume enumerates the various positions I have held at Kerasotes Theaters,
Chili’s restaurants, and Indiana University’s new Student Recreational Sports
Center (SRSC), and what all of these positions have in common is an emphasis on
serving the public effectively. Further, as an assistant manager at the
Showplace 11 and a staff coordinator at the SRSC, I have gained valuable
expertise in managing employees and creating work schedules. Both of these
positions have allowed me to develop my sales and people skills, which are
extremely important in an increasingly service-driven marketplace.
Not all of my work experience has been as a paid employee. Part of my
volunteering experience at Middleway House, the local battered women’s shelter,
involved extensive work on computers, including word processing, organizing
databases and creating spreadsheets. Also, I recently participated in an
internship program for academic credit with the Eli Lilly corporation in the
personnel division. As a management intern, I was able to watch the workings of
a major corporation up close and would like the opportunity to combine my
experiences with the theoretical background available in the MBA program at IUB,
with its emphasis on computers, marketing and human resources.
My successful internship is one element of my overall academic success as
an undergraduate here at IUB, yet I have also made time for a variety of
extracurricular activities, including working for my sorority and competing in
intramural basketball. My positive experiences here have resulted in my desire
to stay in Bloomington to continue my academic endeavors; furthermore,
continuing my education here would allow me to make important business contacts,
with the career goal of opening my own computer consulting firm in the
Midwest.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen

Dear _,
My passion for the subject increased when I chose business studies as part
of my main education at school. In addition to the general subjects such as
mathematics, literature, history it also included marketing, accounting and
economics. Although these subjects are somewhat demanding, I find them extremely
interesting. After secondary school I decided to continue my education at Kazakh
National University founded by Al Farabi, it is one of the best and oldest
universities in Central Asia, in the faculty of the International Economic
Relations. I believe that the degree I have obtained, is the best choice for me.
I will be looking forward to learning about the international business world and
I am relishing the thought of learning to integrate with people from different
countries and cultures. The idea of learning to communicate with other people
across the world is something that has always appealed greatly to me
My speciality that I have got after graduating from the Kazakh National
State University is in the International Economic Relations
I have studied financial management, macro- micro- economics, accounting,
international currency-credit relations and other subjects. More profoundly I
have studied international economic relations, international organisations,
their function around the world and my diploma work "The analysis of economic
aspects of Kazakhstan oil transportation abroad" was written on the basis of the
research of the economics relations between Caspian countries: Russia,
Azerbaizhan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan
Not all my work experience has been as a paid employee. Furthermore I began
to take part time jobs when I was at the University; I worked for different
financial institutions one of them was National Bank of Kazakhstan in the Credit
Department as an Assistant of the Head Manager and in the Currency Department.
My work in this Bank taught me to be self-organised, how to make analyses of
credit rating and commentaries, function of the currency policy, which is one of
the essential part of any bank's activities, and how to work out complex
approaches in settlement of different issues and tasks. After this time I have
changed my field of work and continued it in the Close Stock Company
"KazTransOil" as an Accountant, which is analysing and developing the plan of
transportation oil into different countries
Having important previous experience I have applied my knowledge and skills
at the position of an Assistant of Head Accountant in the Financial Department.
The main goals of the Department - to provide necessary structure of
transportation for joining the main oil field with the processing factories and
export it abroad. My responsibility included calculating the budget of the
Company, making up balance sheet, and analysing a project plan. However I
realised that to work as a professional specialist in a business area for the
broader and deeper understanding finance, accounting and international
environment are needed
For me as a young specialist it is very important to try an opportunity to
continue my education in the University that has proved itself as one of the
best among the other recognised universities focusing on business studies,
promoting and facilitating research in such significant period when integration
is outgrowing to globalisation and countries becoming more dependent on each
other. I think that my interest in accounting and finance, educational
background and professional experience will open new perspectives for me if I
will study at this University. Now I feel that I have potential for realisation
myself in the area of finance and my constant interest to this science, to study
more deeply this subject, ability to distinguish main economic trends will
assist me to transmit my knowledge to other specialists.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
I have always had an interest in science-based subjects, especially those
relating to biology. Whilst undertaking my A-level Biology course, the module
energy and ecosystems was of particular interest to me. My interest in the
natural world, and study of science encouraged me to further my understanding in
this area by applying to study environmental biology at degree level. I wish to
take this course to enable me to develop scientific skills that will provide me
with a greater understanding of the environment and factors that affect it. I am
also studying Chemistry and Maths at A-level. The practical element of my
chemistry course involves an understanding of procedures and precautions
necessary throughout all science-based experiments; I feel that this
understanding will improve my ability in practical elements of the course. After
studying A-level maths, I feel being able to interpret numerical data at a high
level will also enable me to develop my understanding of any numerical
information that features in the course.
I am keen on sports and outdoor pursuits. I have enjoyed a range of
activities from countryside walks to kayaking and abseiling. Because of this I
feel I would particularly enjoy the fieldwork the course offers. I have been
able to combine this interest in sport with a part time job as a leisure
attendant at local sport centres. As part of this post I was asked to lead a
youth sports and activities group which aims to promote sport among young people
in my area. This activity has also allowed me to introduce other young people to
activities that I have enjoyed. This role has also helped me to develop skills
that would help me while I am at university. The sports group involves arranging
individual sessions as well as trips out. This has improved my organisational
skills, which has reflected my ability to combine part-time work with college
effectively. Working as part of a team and serving members of the public has
also improved my social skills, making me more confident when working with
others.
I wish to study at university, not only for the knowledge that I will gain
from the course, but also for the experience of university life has to offer.
During my two years at college I have participated in various activities. For
example, I represented the college at an open day, volunteered as a collage
council representative for my form group, participated in a blood donation
scheme and was also involved in the shoebox appeal. These activities meant that
I have to be confident, approachable and polite. I feel these are
characteristics that will enable me to get involved with student life at
university. My ambition is to participate in conservation work abroad, before
gaining experience in a career based in this area. I feel the experience
outlined above and the knowledge I will gain from the course will enable me to
achieve this ambition.
Yours sincerely,
bzuowen
Master of
Fine Art,
Master of
University of British Columbia提供的Master of Fine
Master of Visual Studies (MVS)

申请人必须参加瑞士公立大学举行的德语、法语语言考试(这种考试可以在到了瑞士以后进行,考试方式也许就是一个教授跟你谈话);
