accompanied my father to his small coin shop and spent hours watching him work.

When I was older, I sometimes set up displays, waited on customers, and even

balanced the books. This experience instilled in me the desire to own and manage

my own business someday, yet I understand that the business world today is more

complex. This complexity requires more education, and with that in mind, I am

applying to the Master’s of Business Administration program at Indiana

University Bloomington (IUB).

In addition to my helping out in my father’s business, I have had numerous

other work experiences that further enhance my qualifications for this program.

My resume enumerates the various positions I have held at Kerasotes Theaters,

Chili’s restaurants, and Indiana University’s new Student Recreational Sports

Center (SRSC), and what all of these positions have in common is an emphasis on

serving the public effectively. Further, as an assistant manager at the

Showplace 11 and a staff coordinator at the SRSC, I have gained valuable

expertise in managing employees and creating work schedules. Both of these

positions have allowed me to develop my sales and people skills, which are

extremely important in an increasingly service-driven marketplace.

Not all of my work experience has been as a paid employee. Part of my

volunteering experience at Middleway House, the local battered women’s shelter,

involved extensive work on computers, including word processing, organizing

databases and creating spreadsheets. Also, I recently participated in an

internship program for academic credit with the Eli Lilly corporation in the

personnel division. As a management intern, I was able to watch the workings of

a major corporation up close and would like the opportunity to combine my

experiences with the theoretical background available in the MBA program at IUB,

with its emphasis on computers, marketing and human resources.

My successful internship is one element of my overall academic success as

an undergraduate here at IUB, yet I have also made time for a variety of

extracurricular activities, including working for my sorority and competing in

intramural basketball. My positive experiences here have resulted in my desire

to stay in Bloomington to continue my academic endeavors; furthermore,

continuing my education here would allow me to make important business contacts,

with the career goal of opening my own computer consulting firm in the

Midwest.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen

Dear _,

Literature can be seen as a microcosm of society, reflecting the

irregularities and inequalities that are present in everyday life. As an English

student, my initial interest in Law stemmed from its portrayal in fictional

works such as ‘To Kill a Mockingbird;’ however, it is the real life

applications, as explored in the Times Law supplement and films like ‘Erin

Brockovich,’ showing it to be both humanitarian and intellectually stimulating

that affirmed my aspirations to study Law.

A levels have given me the chance to explore and develop some skills that

would constitute a good Law student. In English Literature the ability to infer

information and substantiate a conclusion is essential; the component in AS

coursework to write a discursive essay “is King Lear a victim of circumstance or

a tragic hero?” juxtaposed the emotive element of a mans downfall with detached

facts. To arrive at a reasoned conclusion, it was necessary to look at the whole

picture and read around a variety of critical opinions in order to build up a

body of evidence in order to have an objective judgement. I am interested in the

ever-changing nature of Law as in order to better serve society or fairly

arbitrate cases with extenuating circumstances such as that of Kiranjit

Ahluwalia; initially given life for killing her husband after enduring 10 years

of abuse her sentence was later remanded.

Furthermore, I believe French is a beneficial subject, as through studying

French, my awareness of the structure and wording of English has also increased;

translating an article often takes much preparation and preciseness of language

to comprehend the intended nuance of meaning. In addition, Business Studies

requires a good knowledge of current affairs, reading around so as to have an

opinion on the many factors that could influence a business, there was also the

opportunity to study some aspects of Corporate Law; I was particularly

interested in the changing attitudes of society as reflected by the gradual

introduction of anti-discrimination Laws. Taking AS Psychology I studied topics

clearly associated with the practicalities of Law, questioning the work by

Loftus and Palmer on the reliability of eyewitness testimony; however, it also

gave me an insight into the depth of human nature and the factors that can

affect it. In particular, the work of Milgram showed me the need to question an

individual’s behaviour and the reasons behind it.

In addition, to explore the possibility Law as a profession I completed a

weeklong placement at a solicitors firm in Epsom. I was given the chance to

shadow a solicitor, alongside further reading such as ‘The Law Machine’ by

Marcel Berlins, this was invaluable in showing the realities and strenuousness

of working in this field. The necessity of a dedicated and diligent approach in

order to be successful greatly appealed to me and sustained my interest in

Law.

In regards to extra curricular activities, at my sixth form I have been

selected to be a prefect, a role requiring patience and persistence when working

with younger years. In the Young Enterprise scheme, which involved creating and

running a business, I was selected to be Managing Director by my peers for the

tuition service we established. The post required talking to large groups of

parents; in order to persuade them to become shareholders it was essential to

talk both persuasively and confidently. Also I work regularly as a tutor for

Explore Learning, teaching Maths and English to groups of young children, and do

voluntary work for the Epsom and Ewell Bengali association: I help elder members

of the community who don’t speak English fluently to fill in forms and write

letters. These activities have all given me the opportunity to communicate with

varying types of people in different circumstances, be it to clarify a

principle, promote a business opportunity or provide instruction.

A Law degree is not restricted to furthering my aspirations of becoming a

solicitor; it would provide a unique opportunity to explore a variety of issues

that I feel passionate about. With the skills that I have already explored, I

will strive to be a hardworking and successful undergraduate who will play a

full part in university life.

Yours sincerely,

Program: Human Resource Management /International Business Management /

Media Enterprises

In this age of information, economic globalization is subjecting the entire

world to an irresistible, all-encompassing and profound transformation. Any

single nation has the likelihood to exceed the boundaries of its domestic

market, and its natural and human resources to realize an optimum allocation of

resources on the international level. By now, a pattern of multinational

competition has developed and China ’s accession into the WTO has provided it

with a rare opportunity to integrate into the international mainstream economies

and to realize its immense development potential. But at the same time China is

bound to an important obligation—its solemn promise to abide by all the rules

and regulations of trade as agreed upon by all the WTO member countries. Under

such circumstances, it is necessary for China to open its market according to

prevalent international conventions and practices and bring its mode of economic

operation and management, along with relevant laws and regulations, into an

international framework until absolute conformity is achieved.

Against such a larger background, the physical and geographical concept of

the nationality of an enterprise has been virtually eliminated. The

intensification of international competition is bound to create resource

allocation on a global scale. How to implement cross-population and

trans-cultural management system and comprehensively elevate international

competitiveness is a challenging subject that enterprises in developing

countries like China have to face. It is precisely based on this recognition

that I, now on the verge of completing my undergraduate program, plans to pursue

a master’s program in management whereby I may study and research on how

international economy operates and how multinational companies apply their

effective management

My four-year undergraduate program in Broadcast and Television Journalism

at the Department of Journalism and Information Communication of _ University

of Science and Technology has enabled me to acquire an open mentality, acute

insights and rich practical experience. I have been the top student of my class,

not only because of my consistent No. 1 ranking in terms of academic performance

but also because of my role as major organizer of a number of extracurricular

activities related to journalistic practices. As vice head of our university’s

TV station, I produced a great number of special feature programs. I interned at

a local newspaper office and at _ Provincial TV Station, winning a

provincial-level award for my journalistic reporting. I was the assistant

producer of a special show about _ Province in a serial program “Across China”

by _’s Phoenix Cable TV. Through playing different roles, as a student of

journalism and working as journalist and TV producer, I have developed an

important academic foundation, effective management skills and interpersonal

communication. In addition, I have a unique advantage—I have done a second

degree in English for Science and Technology. Those factors will be important

for my working toward a more advanced degree program.

As a sophomore, I started my bi-degree program in business administration.

I prized this important opportunity as I discovered that it is the subject in

which my true interest lies. In this program, I have systematically studied all

the relevant management courses including Human Resource Management, Marketing,

and Market Planning. My academic performance in this program is equally

satisfactory. In May 2002, as one of a few student delegates, I participated in

the Third MBA Development Forum of China held in the City of _ . I helped my

advisor prepare his presentation and I also interviewed leading scholars and

experts on MBA in our country. This experience significantly deepened my

understanding of management and broadened academic perspectives.

My distinguished academic performance in the first three years has

qualified me for a direct master’s program in journalism in my Alma Mater.

However, I am very clear about my academic interest and my future career

objectives. Therefore I have relinquished the offer in favor of applying for a

more advanced education in management. As a discipline western in origin,

management science is undoubtedly a field of study whose teaching and research

western universities are most good at. Therefore, I am determined to apply for a

Master’s program The London School of Economics and Political Science, arguably

the better of the best western universities in social sciences. Your esteemed

university enjoys a unique academic position and an unparalleled academic

reputation in the western world, with a large number of leading scholars working

in their respective fields. Situated in London where one can witness distinctive

cultural parallelism, it will not only teach me the most updated professional

knowledge but also ample sociological understanding of its cultural

diversity.

In my proposed study, I will contribute my research talents because I

possess experience of participating in a major research project. For an entire

year from December 2002 to December 2003, as the sole undergraduate of the

research group, I took part in the Study of _ City’s Specialized Water

Management System, which is part of the country’s “863” key scientific and

technological research program undertaken by _ Bluewater Science and Technology

Company. I performed field study of the water resources in the _ region of _

City and the wealth of statistics that I collected and codified provided

valuable reference materials for the entire research group. In addition, I

proposed that BOT(Build-Operate-Transfer)could be employed to construct a

small-scale waste-water treatment plant. The most important role I played was

the substantive research I carried out for the topic on Lake Management System

and the research report that I co-authored. Prof. _X, the leader of the

research group, praised me as “demonstrating impressive professional dedication

and sound research potential, with strong analytical and problem-solving

abilities.”

I have lived a colorful extracurricular life. Learning dancing in my

childhood, I became the leader of the dancing team of our university’s art

troupe, and launched traveling performances in neighboring provinces.

Representing _ Province, I participated in China ’s First National Dancing

Contest for University Students, at which I won the third prize. Moreover, as a

key member on the Student Management Committee of our university’s library, I

organized a campus-wide book-reading festival. In 2001, as one of the five

delegates of our university, I attended the New Millennium Administrative Elites

Training Program jointly sponsored by _ Chinese University and _ General

Chamber of Commerce. I have been working as a secretary at the International

Exchange Department of _ University of Science and Technology where I am

responsible for receiving foreign delegations, offering consultations and

arranging lectures and academic conference. Based on those experiences, I will

continue contributing my extracurricular talents.

In this age of increasing specialization, I hope to develop myself into a

specialist on human resource management with the best training from one of the

world’s best academic institutes. Therefore, receiving a quality education from

_ will be a vital step to my personal and career development and to the

fulfillment of this long-cherished aspiration of mine.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

The media's writing style today is owed to the 'New Journalists' of the

1960's and 1970's who transformed the approach towards Journalism. I am making

this application as I am fascinated by the vast scope which is covered by the

subject and how in today's society the media plays a major role in every subject

imaginable and affects everybody's life in some way. After completing this

course I hope to enter into Print or Broadcast Journalism and eventually I would

like to have the prospect of working in both of these forms of media. I have a

particular interest in magazines and Foreign Affairs and I am inspired by the

work of John Simpson, who has maintained his position of World Affairs Editor at

BBC News for over twenty years.

For my A-levels I chose to study English Literature, Theatre Studies and

French, because these courses have allowed me to develop both my written skills

and structuring the writing style that is so varied for each subject. In English

Literature we studied the era in which 'New Journalism' was introducing itself

into society by such Journalists as Tom Wolfe and Gay Talese. Their

'unconventional' works were published in magazines rather than newspapers, due

to the response from the editors who favoured the more 'traditional' journalists

of the time. Theatre Studies has required me to devise and interpret plays which

has enhanced my confidence, improvisation and time management skills, as well as

building on theory and historical context. When studying French we take a view

on current affairs from around the world today. We learn how to debate and

compose various pieces of written work documenting both our own opinions and

taking a neutral view. French A-level has also strengthened my skills to

successfully learn a language with its grammar, vocabulary and culture.

I have recently been on a five day work placement with my local paper. It

was a great experience where I gained the insight into the daily life of a

journalist and I was able to write articles which required piecing together

through photojournalism and interviews in order to produce the finished article.

It also provided me with the practice to prepare me for both University and my

future career. I have written articles for my school newspaper and hope to write

more in the future. Throughout my life I have developed a particular interest in

acting and the surrounding effects upon society that it creates. In 2008, I

received a part as an extra in a period film directed by Julian Fellowes,

recently previewed at The London Film Festival. I found it to be a good example

of the amount of work put into successful media which is unknown by the public.

It also showed me how intense the competition is within the film and media

industries.

I am an Assistant Leader at Dorchester Youth Theatre and I have the

privilege of working with teenagers only a few years younger than myself who

share my passion for performance and have had responsibilities, such as

co-directing various productions, whilst undertaking the role of Stage

Manager.

These responsibilities are reflected in my work life as I have worked in a

camping shop for 18 months; my time at the shop has allowed me to develop both

my social and interpersonal skills alongside my organisation skills. These

skills have been beneficial when taking part in expeditions as part of the Gold

Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I am taking a gap year commencing August 2010, in which I will go and work

as an Au Pair for a family living in Italy; I will look after the child as

required and teach him English. I am sure that this will help me to learn a new

language and experience its culture, whilst experiencing independent life

submerged in foreign culture.

I look forward to my University life and my future within Journalism and

where it will take me. I believe that I am well suited to the demands of a

Journalism degree because I have a genuine interest and the motivation to work

hard and succeed.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen

Dear _,

I can not recall a single day of my life when I haven't enjoyed the

pleasures of literature; whether reading one of Blake's poems or, Ken Kesey's

novels I have always felt enthusiasm for the English language. I developed this

interest further during my study of AS-level English where I particularly

enjoyed exploring language acquisition and investigating the linguistic

difference of British and American sports commentary. As a result of reading

books such as 'Brave new world' and 'The Da Vinci code' I have been inspired to

write a novel, and I would ultimately hope to see this published. I would also

like to study the classics, such as Shakespeare, Chaucer, Fitzgerald and

Hemingway; I believe that a thorough investigation of the way the English

language is used in literature is, apart from being fascinating in its own

right, a sound grounding for later life.

I believe that the experience of university is principally a beneficial

life lesson: a necessary tool to broaden my reading and intellectual horizons. I

trust the stimuli I shall receive from university will be extremely important;

in particular being in the company of other writers and like minded people is an

environment I would thrive in. I feel this would lead to a constructive

atmosphere and consequently, the perfect challenge for me.

Having spent over a year in full time employment as a Legal Advisor I have

learnt many things: most notably time management on account of being required to

organise the workday schedule for me and others. Also in my area of work there

is a need for fast turnover which has taught me to thrive under pressure, yet

the daily challenge of uncooperative clients means I have to alter my approach

to suit, consequently my communication skills are essential and help me adapt

with ease.

During my time in sixth form I enhanced my diplomatic skills - such as

analytical debate and cooperation with people of different opinions - whilst

serving as my schools representative to the Stafford collegiate forum. Another

significant influence has been a trip I made to Romania; there I worked with

deprived communities and taught disadvantaged children to play the guitar -

whilst delivering various donated musical instruments to several churches. This

was a very valuable experience for me, as a result I would like to be in a

position, within my chosen career, to help others in a similar position in the

future.

In my spare time I take pleasure in various hobbies: I enjoy attending my

local book club where we read a diverse collection of literature from Allen

Ginsberg and William Borroughs to Danny Scheinmann. My favourite authors are

Aldous Huxley, Jim Morrison and - the pioneers of the creative non-fiction

movement in particular - Hunter S Thompson: their innovative approach to writing

is appealing to me. With regard to other interests, I like to think of myself as

someone who is helpful and interesting to talk too; I have enrolled on the level

one Counselling course at my local college.

Since finishing my A-levels I have had time to consider whether going to

university was definitely what I want to do. As a result I am now sure it is the

right path for me and therefore I am determined to succeed. Having the

experience of full time employment I now feel more responsible, disciplined and

dedicated to my goals.

After concluding my studies I would consider postgraduate as an option;

however, my intended outcome of studying at university is to pursue a career in

journalism which I have aspired to for many years. In particular I would like to

travel as a foreign correspondent or similar role in order to see the world. I

would also continue to concentrate on the development of my novel concurrently;

whichever route I take I believe studying a university will help me become a

more erudite individual.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

My interest in Law stems from a fascination with resolving conflict and the

important contribution it makes to our society. I view Law as a career in which

I will have the opportunity to improve the lives of others and be able to

evaluate the nature of human relationships. I believe that I am suited to a

career in law as I work best when facing challenges.

Academically, I have always been a very determined individual, hence the

reason I knew that a degree at University would be the next step. I have a broad

interest in many subject areas yet feel drawn towards a law degree. The wide

range of subjects that I have chosen has helped me to become more open minded.

In fourth year I sat GCSE Arabic out with the school. This made me realise the

importance of organisation and required me to make use of my time efficiently so

that other schoolwork did not suffer. Therefore I decided to further extend my

academic achievements by preparing for the Arabic A level exam. My ability to

speak Arabic fluently and also read and write it has largely improved my

communication skills and the way I interact with others. I am also studying an

additional Higher which I feel has become less challenging because of my

efficiency in organisation and also my determination which drives me closer to

my ambition of becoming a successful lawyer. My choice in social sciences such

as Geography and Modern Studies has also taught me how to adopt a more logical

approach to factual situations and other competences such as improving my

knowledge of modern society and international political affairs that trouble the

modern world.

To complement my academic interests I engage in a variety of

extracurricular activities. I am involved in the school debating society. The

experience has taught me to use my own initiative in writing speeches and

developed my skills of public speaking and diplomacy. I am also involved in the

production of the school newspaper as I enjoy writing articles about major

issues in society such as international social issues. One of my main hobbies is

organising events within my Muslim cultural community as I enjoy the

responsibility as well as working alongside friends. My ability to motivate

myself is a key factor in my overall success. I am an extremely hardworking

person and I am committed to reaching my goals.

I thoroughly enjoy spending my spare time with my family and friends who

are the most important feature of my life. I am also keen on taking part in a

variety of sporting activities as I often organise a five a side football team

to participate in tournaments at the weekends. This experience has taught me the

importance of communication, teamwork and self-reliance. I am also a member of

the local gym were I attend regularly in order to keep active and fit. Moreover,

I frequently enjoy reading novels as well as broad sheet newspapers to keep

myself updated with world events.

My work experience with Miller Samual law firm in Glasgow fired and

reinforced my enthusiasm for a career in Law. I had the opportunity to shadow

administrators, solicitors and office clerks, observing critical procedures at

every level. Moreover, I feel that it is necessary to further extend my

experiences within a Lawyer's workplace; therefore I have decided to attend

another week of work experience in January 2007. This will allow me to reinforce

my grasp of what day to day life and work and is like for a lawyer and will

improve my awareness of what a career in law will involve.

As a result of my education and experiences I feel that I have developed

the skills necessary to meet the challenge that further education will provide

me with and challenges that I look forward to meeting and accomplishing.

Yours sincerely,

Master of

Fine Art,

Master of

University of British Columbia提供的Master of Fine

Master of Visual Studies (MVS)

Dear _,

Fashion Marketing & Management personal statement

Fashion is creative, seductive, always changing and a form of art, to

others it is a religion. To me I use fashion to express myself and also to show

my personality but also look glamorous. I mostly like the 1920s style because

it's the time when women were more liberated to wear what they wanted, the

freedom was expressed through simple but yet elegant designs that were

beautifully co-ordinated that were accessorised with jewellery and represented

the style and elegance of that time.

I am currently studying Fashion Marketing at the University of the Arts

London. Studying in London is fantastic because of the different cultural

mixture, and not to mention all the big art galleries that are in the heart of

London. London is very fast paced which I like and the atmosphere is vibrant. I

wanted to study Fashion marketing because I wanted to learn know more about the

business side of Fashion. I am influenced by designers like Alexander McQueen

because of his edgy style and Ralph Lauren more so because I used to work for

the company, but I like his style because of the sophistication of some of his

designs and the preppy look, the polo shirts and oxford shirts with riding

boots.

Since starting the course with a business mind set, I have discovered that

I am particularly drawn to marketing. I know that to excel in this subject will

really take me where I want to be. I would like to have my own agency in the

future, and possibly would look in the long term to a career in buying, as I

have enjoyed learning about fashion trend predictions, and the influence of

street style on the catwalk.

I was fortunate enough to work for Polo Ralph Lauren for nearly 3 years. I

learnt an amazing amount about high end fashion retail business. I worked in

sales, cashing up, training new staff, and visual merchandising. I have also

worked for Ozwald Boateng as a summer temp this year, where I have learned more

about couture lines since they make bespoke couture suits which are tailored and

fitted. It was there that I learned to alter garments which I am sure will prove

very useful to me.

By working in retail I have gained confidence which is important in our

every day life, organisational skills, I am also a good team player as you

always have to work as a team in sales, I have also been a team leader and alsoI

have had to manage people which takes courage and commitment, I pay attention to

the smallest detail because everything I do has to be perfect because I thrive

in my work.

I also have a passion for designing; I have done a few clothes designs of

my own and intend to do more. I find designing a good skill to have because you

get to be creative and use your imagination to create something so

extraordinary. I would like the opportunity to work in a fashion house, working

as an in house assistant designer but as a second career prospect.

I have also gained a BTEC level 2 Diploma in IT and a Diploma level 2 in

Digital Applications which is very helpful because in the fashion industry you

have to be computer literate, and is an excellent skill to have. In my spare

time I like to read books that challenge me to the best of my ability, I like to

cook and entertain my friends as it is really important for me have a social

life as well. I have a good personality, I am an easy going person and I am also

very approachable. I go to the gym twice a week so as to keep fit.

I am a very self motivated person, who thrives to be the best in every

subject area. So far I have received top grades for all my work and some good

positive feedback from my peers and tutors. I have done extensive research to

obtain good grades and I have the motivation and the passion to progress to do

an Undergraduate degree.

Yours sincerely,
