Ever since I have had the ability to understand it, I have been fascinated

by the English language. As a child, I would either be writing, reading or

telling stories and ever sine then, have read a wide variety of both fiction and

non-fiction texts from a variety of genres and eras.

This passion for language has led me to many different extra-curricular

activities. For the past four years, I have attended a Youth Theatre each week

where we concentrate very much on both improvised and scripted drama but also

have done work on stage management, stage make-up, singing, and signed singing

(an interest which begun with my learning of both violin and double bass to

grade 4 standard).

With this same organisation, I have volunteered for the past three years at

one of the children’s groups where I work helping with drama, music and art. It

was with this same organisation that I decided to learn Sign Language.I have

recently gained my British Sign Language Level 1 certificate and am now

beginning a Level 2 course. I began learning Sign Language at the same time as

starting my A-Level in English Language and Literature, a course I have found

extremely interesting. Taking these two courses concurrently was very exciting

for me as learning more about the linguistics of the English Language enabled me

to make comparisons between the two languages.

These interests have led me to this course which I not only feel suits my

needs and interests aptly, but also excites me in its course content. Although

I’ve enjoyed all of my A-Level English Language and Literature course but have

found a few parts of it particularly interesting. I specifically enjoyed our

coursework tasks for our AS Level as it included writing a piece of original

fiction, an aspect of English which I have always enjoyed. I also enjoyed the

task of performing a monologue as I have missed not being able to study drama as

a subject.

I try to follow my interests outside of school and so attend a wide variety

of theatre productions, art exhibitions, musical performances and subject

related lectures. When studying psychology last year, I attended a large

psychology conference with a variety of speakers which was both helpful and

interesting. Last year I also attended an ‘art master class’ organised with

Middlesex University and with nine other students, it gave more opportunity for

more detailed and involved discussions. I have not yet had the opportunity to

attend an English related lecture but look forward to a study day in March which

will aid me with my study of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra.

Alongside this and my voluntary work with the drama organisation, I have

worked in a variety of jobs which have all helped to develop my sense of

responsibility as they were dependent on both teamwork and co-operation but also

my use of initiative.I have chosen to defer my entry to 2005 as I plan to

complete a voluntary teaching placement in Africa. The prospect of this

placement excites me as it will give me the opportunity to travel, to meet new

people, to experience new cultures, and, above all, help out where much help is

needed. I feel that taking a gap year is going to benefit me greatly as it will

enable me to gain valuable life skills that will benefit me both at university

but also in whatever I choose to do following university whether it be a

postgraduate course or work.

The presentation of environmental problems in the media was what initially

sparked my interest in environmental studies. In school, I have always enjoyed

geography and natural sciences, which led me to take the Geography Concours

General, a particularly challenging exercise. I pursued my interest in taking

this study further by selecting books from the recommended reading lists for

courses on the environment, published on university websites. I particularly

enjoyed Flannery's comprehensive account on global warming in 'The Weather

Makers' as well as 'Heat, how we can stop the planet burning' by Monbiot for its

daring propositions on how to cut carbon emissions. 'The Politics of the

Environment: Ideas, Activism, Policy' by Neil Carter proved to be an excellent

complement.

For an extended project, a requirement of the OIB, I worked in a group

exploring carbon capture and storage as a solution for reducing carbon

emissions. Researching such a controversial matter taught me to be patient and

careful when selecting my sources. It also led me to contact Dr Ferey of the

Lavoisier Institute in Versailles, a leading specialist in the field of

microporous solids whose work I had first learned of in 'Science et Vie', one of

the periodicals I receive regularly. Interviewing him was a particularly

stimulating experience. More than this, our conversation made it clear that his

team's discoveries can only find concrete uses through the type of approach I

wish to study, combining sciences with knowledge of economic, social and

political factors.

To understand what working on environmental problems is really like, I

devoted three weeks of my summer holiday to a work experience placement at the

French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea. I was

asked to write a synthesis and analysis of an European Commission report,

concerning the implementation of water monitoring programmes throughout the

European Union. This job helped me to develop my ability to extract the

essential information out of extensive administrative documents and law texts

and to manage my time carefully. I also learnt about the complex management of

natural resources and became very interested in methods used in the evaluation

of the ecological status of different water bodies. My work ended with an oral

presentation, a task which led me to apply the presentation skills taught at

school in front of a professional audience. I enjoyed this exercise for its

challenging aspect and the positive feedback I received, which gave me enormous

satisfaction. Daily discussions with my mentor, on subjects as various as the

importance of a river's hydromorphology to aquatic life, the intricate workings

of administration and our shared passion for cinema provided me with a more

human and social experience of the workplace.

In addition to my academic interests, I also have a part-time job teaching

English to younger students. I find this to be a challenging but rewarding task,

which has helped me develop my ability to explain things in a clear fashion. I

am also a member of my school's football team and play tennis on weekends.

I think that living in Shanghai and travelling throughout Asia with my

parents has made me a more open-minded individual. Having been taught in a

bilingual and bicultural school, I have learned to approach problems from

different perspectives and thus reach a more objective overview. Hence, I am

convinced that pursuing my studies in the UK, with its diverse population and

internationally recognised universities, is the next logical step in my

intercultural education and an excellent investment for my future professional

career in the environmental sector.

一、艺术美国留学申请费用

美国艺术生留学花费除了正常的学费每年三至四万美元外,生活费至少应该估算到3万美元年,因为大型城市的艺术发展自然更好,地域选择上无形中提升了生活费的成本支出,基本上每年的花费在6-7万美元,算是留学成本比较高的专业。

二、美国艺术留学条件

1、申请条件

中国艺术类高考招生有提前录取。艺术类考生专业比如美术、舞蹈、绘画、音乐、表演等专业的考生除了要达到规定的高考分数要求外,还会有专业课考试。在国外,艺术类专业没有提前招生。在报考国外艺术类院校时,学校要求申请艺术类院校者除了有某项专长外,要求有某项专长,还要提供作品集。

2、申请材料要求

去美国学艺术类专业对申请艺术类院校者外语的要求没有商科高。外语成绩和个人的作品相比,前者不是很重要。艺术类学生特别是学习纯艺术专业(如钢琴、舞蹈、绘画等专业,不含设计类及艺术教育类)的学生,对外语的要求比其它学科低。但是涉及到与人交流和沟通多的专业,比如表演类专业,要求申请者的语言成绩会比其他专业高些。同时,学艺术还需要有些艺术气质,这不是指要长相漂亮,而是在说话、举手投足中体现出良好的自身修养,这一点在签证或者学校面试时可能会有很大帮助。

The media's writing style today is owed to the 'New Journalists' of the

1960's and 1970's who transformed the approach towards Journalism. I am making

this application as I am fascinated by the vast scope which is covered by the

subject and how in today's society the media plays a major role in every subject

imaginable and affects everybody's life in some way. After completing this

course I hope to enter into Print or Broadcast Journalism and eventually I would

For my A-levels I chose to study English Literature, Theatre Studies and

Literature we studied the era in which 'New Journalism' was introducing itself

into society by such Journalists as Tom Wolfe and Gay Talese. Their

'unconventional' works were published in magazines rather than newspapers, due

to the response from the editors who favoured the more 'traditional' journalists

of the time. Theatre Studies has required me to devise and interpret plays which

has enhanced my confidence, improvisation and time management skills, as well as

building on theory and historical context. When studying French we take a view

on current affairs from around the world today. We learn how to debate and

compose various pieces of written work documenting both our own opinions and

taking a neutral view. French A-level has also strengthened my skills to

successfully learn a language with its grammar, vocabulary and culture.

I have recently been on a five day work placement with my local paper. It

was a great experience where I gained the insight into the daily life of a

journalist and I was able to write articles which required piecing together

through photojournalism and interviews in order to produce the finished article.

It also provided me with the practice to prepare me for both University and my

future career. I have written articles for my school newspaper and hope to write

more in the future. Throughout my life I have developed a particular interest in

acting and the surrounding effects upon society that it creates. In 2008, I

received a part as an extra in a period film directed by Julian Fellowes,

recently previewed at The London Film Festival. I found it to be a good example

of the amount of work put into successful media which is unknown by the public.

It also showed me how intense the competition is within the film and media

industries.

I am an Assistant Leader at Dorchester Youth Theatre and I have the

privilege of working with teenagers only a few years younger than myself who

share my passion for performance and have had responsibilities, such as

co-directing various productions, whilst undertaking the role of Stage

Manager.

These responsibilities are reflected in my work life as I have worked in a

camping shop for 18 months; my time at the shop has allowed me to develop both

my social and interpersonal skills alongside my organisation skills. These

skills have been beneficial when taking part in expeditions as part of the Gold

Duke of Edinburgh Award.

I am taking a gap year commencing August 2010, in which I will go and work

as an Au Pair for a family living in Italy; I will look after the child as

required and teach him English. I am sure that this will help me to learn a new

language and experience its culture, whilst experiencing independent life

submerged in foreign culture.

I look forward to my University life and my future within Journalism and

where it will take me. I believe that I am well suited to the demands of a

notably the publications on "Summary of Intervention for Acute Radiotherapy

Induced Skin Reactions in Patients", "Learning and Development Framework for

Clinical Imaging and Oncology","Implementing The Career Framework in

Radiotherapy", Policy Into Practice, "End of Life Strategy", and "Patient

Advocacy".

I feel the Radiotherapy courses in the UK have much more to offer than the

one Radiotherapy course in Ireland, in terms of employability after the course,

Employers deem the vast clinical experience gained on UK courses essential for

the successful introduction of newly graduated Radiotherapists into their

clinic. The world class standard and professional recognition that your course

offers would also ensure that I would graduate a very capable Radiation

Therapist.

I have done a lot of voluntary and fund-raising work in my local community.

I volunteer at my local Youth Club every week, where I work as part of a team to

What is life, but an endless chain of riddles? Actually, I believe the

chain stretches far beyond any living creature's lifespan, beyond words and

imagination. As we progress, we find ourselves facing the most curious of

questions. But whilst curiosity is one of the main traits of human beings, its

power and influence are often overwhelmed by our defense mechanisms. Thus some

questions, the most vital to us at the moment, might find their solutions.

Others, however, might not. It is up to us to decide whether we are willing to

stop on one place for a while, or continue our journey only in hopes of

stumbling upon the same situation later on. One thing is certain - no matter the

choice, once faced with a riddle, a person is likely to remain haunted by it

until the end of their lives. If anyone argued with me on that manner, I would

gladly say that what we see or even perceive is no more than a tenth of what we

carry inside. A constant search for the truth may not be on everyone's agenda,

but the need for it is carved somewhere deeper than we may ever reach.

This place, precisely this depth behind all masks, behind the make-up and

the body-vessels we belong to, is what enthralls me and leaves me hanging

breathless upon the outlines of my own Path. I would gladly give away a kingdom

for the sake of unlocking the secret to even one heart. What is more, I would

give my life with all the devotion I am capable of.

I believe the art of Psychology is what specializes in the quest for hidden

passages and keys to the most stubborn of locks. I call it art, for it touches

the soul no less than the greatest of piano concerts or the most beautiful of

poems. It is able to ignite life, where its colours had slowly faded, to plant

with hopes and beliefs for the future. Last but not of least importance, to me,

it is a source of inspiration. And I am a person who would rather live through

one inspiring year than a century of empty ones. So, to put it briefly, it turns

out that I and Psychology have a two-sided relationship - I would devote my

entire being to it, but I need it in my life so that I can sustain this certain

being worth devoting.

Choosing to walk down such a Path in life is not something that occurred to

me yesterday or the day before. Honestly, I cannot even remember where the roots

of this dream of mine may lie. What I do know is, that taking Philosophy and

Psychology classes at my high school made me realize that everything that had

intrigued me so greatly in the past could be turned into a profession. Helping

people to help themselves, searching together with them for the little lost

pieces of the puzzle, this is what I define as my calling. By this I mean giving

guidance and offering support to the person in question, but in just the right

portions, so that they can continue their journey independently and more

motivated than ever before.

Psychology is what opens the doors towards ever so many human beings with

their fates. A diversity to be truly thankful for, and what is more, a diversity

I would like to study thoroughly. Because I, as Jack Kerouac, have found this

simple truth: "The only people for me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to

live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time".

But here I shall add... Aren't we all?

“Get out of here and never come back!” Forcefully pushed out of the pub, I

sat down against a nearby wall to scrub the dust off my shoes and regain my

composure. My pride was wounded, not because of the way they treated me, but

because they did not believe what I told them. It was the second time I had been

forced out of this particular pub, a place for gay gathering. This is part of my

research project “Health education model of preventing HIV/AIDS based on

employer-employee relationships”, which I was working on. I believed that in

order to effectively prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, employers, who are on the

top of business pyramid, should be first in line to know the disease well,

because they can leverage the sufficient resources necessary to exert great

influence on the disease prevention within their enterprises. This approach fits

the circumstances in China particularly well.

In face of this frustration, I didn’t give up trying. Before the start of

the project, the local center for disease control and prevention had already

counted the fifth reported case of AIDS virus infection, who later acknowledged

that he had once provided sex service in that club or dated his homosexual

partner. The devastating consequences if no intervention would be taken obliged

me to try other means. Working as a team, three friends joined my endeavor and

we handed out brochures outside the pub that introduced HIV/AIDS preventive

measures with the elaborately-designed slogan “We understand you by showing our

care to you!” Eventually, our persistence had been well paid off. Our respect of

their personal choice melted the toughness of the owner of the club and he

agreed to give a hand in sending the information to his employees and

clients.

My name is Yuan, Chen. I grew up in a Nanjing family, where my mother is a

senior experimentalist at the Key Lab of Reproductive Medicine of Jiangsu

Province. Because of her profession, our daily communication inevitably touched

on health-related issues like health care, disease control and prevention. She

showed me the importance of public health and its impact on all aspects of human

well-being. I was so intrigued by what my mother had devoted her life to that I

made up my mind to follow her footprint. My aspirations eventually led me to the

School of Public Health at Nanjing Medical University.

During my years of college study, I was recognized for my academic

performance and awarded with scholarships multiple times. Driven by curiosity

and a desire to enrich myself, I have come out top in my undergraduate class for

four straight years. Absolutely, college study is not only a matter of getting

perfect scores in the class, as I understand. Since my sophomore year, I began

to work on research projects at the Key Lab of Modern Toxicology of Ministry of

Education, which consists mainly of graduate students. I detected the effects of

pyrethroids (permethrin, cypermethrin, fenvalerate) and their major metabolite

3-phenoxybenzoic acid on rat sperm motility in vitro with a computer-assisted

sperm analysis (CASA) system and then published two papers in English. The

research work proved to be especially rewarding. It provided an opportunity for

me to apply what I had learned in the classroom so that I gained a deeper

understanding of it. But it also armed me with strong computer skills and

laboratory techniques.

The direct impact of public health on our society makes it not only an

academic subject, but also a social issue. Instilling a healthy life style

concept in the community through promotion of healthy habits is as important as

conducting research. Upon this comprehension, I took part in the Red Ribbon Peer

Association of my university, an organization which aims to bring HIV/AIDS peer

education to the public, and to help find treatment for those in need.

AIDS is a very sensitive topic that people are very reluctant to publicly

discuss in China, due to the innate conservatism of Chinese culture. Government

also avoids talking about it by blaming lack of information. Gradually, the

disease has become a forbidden zone full of controversy and misunderstanding in

the public eye. People have either not heard about it, or just do not know what

to do with it. Some are so scared of it that they do not want to have any

physical contact with infected people. Even in the health care industry, many

people do not have sufficient knowledge of it, according to our surveys.

However, in sharp contrast to the public’s ignorance are the brutal facts that

we can no longer turn a blind eye. It is estimated that in China, there are

740,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, and the number is still climbing rapidly

year by year. Each year, nearly half of the new reported cases are under

twenty-five.

As a group highlighting this sensitive issue in the face of people’s

traditional views, we met with much doubts, disbelief and resistance. Many

people openly mocked and shunned us. “AIDS is a western disease. How can it

appear here?” “I do not want to talk to AIDS patients because I do not want to

be infected.” “How is it possible for AIDS to be transmitted between man and

man?” “AIDS is an immoral disease, and as long as I do not have sex with people

who are immoral, I will be safe.” Faced with such benightedness, we used real

stories, persuasive data, and vivid pictures with scientific relevance to help

our “students” understand the disease, and we encouraged those concerned with

the issue to join our organization. Gradually, people started paying attention

and we gained some credibility within some special groups. For one of our

events, “Tell the truth”, we invited AIDS experts, patients, and health

officials on the same stage, discussing the issue face to face with the pubic.

This event gained so much attention after some high profile media reported it

that inquiries about our project flooded our mail boxes from all over the

country. During this windfall, we received funding support from businesses and

government, helping raise our project to a new level. Subsequently, we spent our

school breaks and vacations in holding exhibitions, hosting seminars, visiting

communities, and conducting surveys.

Undoubtedly, fighting against HIV/AIDS is an arduous task and the road is

long due to the traits of the virus—its variability and immune suppression. But

then, “even a journey of ten thousand miles is started with your first step”, as

an old Chinese saying goes, and I volunteer to become even an inch of what

builds up this first step. In recent years, China has made some progress on

HIV/AIDS prevention and control, but a lack of advanced concepts and expertise

poses a bottleneck problem to major breakthroughs. This is the reason why I turn

to developed countries like the United States. I am eager to receive systemic

and more advanced training in epidemiology in USA and aspire to future

leadership in public health in China. This has led my decision to apply for the

Epidemiology M.P.H. program in the School of Public Health at the University of

Michigan. Holding the belief that one’s ability is not limited by what he

already knows but what he is willing to learn and do, I am ready to become more

than just a professional in the field of public health, but in fact a

professional leader.

艺术留学针对的是进行高等教育,所以大家递交申请需要完成高中的学习,一般来说只有毕业生才拥有递交申请的资格,不过大家专业能力优秀的话也可以破格录取。

2、语言准备

艺术专业授课采用的是英语,所以大家不需要再进行丹麦语的学习,直接对英语进行培训就可以了,这样可以节约大家学习的时间,减轻准备的压力。

语言的要求不会太高,一般大家的雅思只要达到5.5分以上就可以了,当然你分数越高,申请成功的概率也越大,所以大家还是尽可能的将自己的语言进行提升。

作品集的准备应该是大家需要重点关注的事情,艺术类院校审核的重点,应该就是作品集了,这是学校对学生的艺术天分和能力进行判断的主要载体。

4、资金准备

最后是在费用上的准备,艺术类专业的留学,会比其他专业的留学更贵一些,因为及除了基础的消费,还需要承担专业必须的支出。

所以父母需要在这方面给予学生足够的支持,不要让孩子在学习的时候有资金方面的担忧。
