Dear _,

Please give a brief evaluation of yourself as a leader.2. What do you

consider to be your most important personal and professional accomplishments to

date?3. Why have you decided to enter the Fully Employed MBA Program? Why is

this the appropriate time for you to begin?1. Becoming a leader in the business

world has been my goal since high school. In order to succeed at any goal, one

must first find a path to reach the goal, and then embark on that path. My path

to becoming a leader began in high school. While studying in high school, I

demonstrated great dedication, a trait necessary for a leader. I mastered

several different disciplines. I passed Advanced Placement tests in Art History,

Chemistry and Physics, and graduated in the top 5% of my class. I also had the

opportunity to exercise actual leadership skills as President of both the

Science Club and the Business Club. At the State University of California at Los

Angeles, I continued to serve leadership positions while remaining committed to

my studies. I won first place in the Phi Beta Lambda 31st State Leadership

Conference in Management and Information Management. Although I worked 36 hours

a week at two part-time jobs, in addition to participating in this conference, I

was able to maintain my grades. I joined the General Education Honors Program.

Upon entering the working world, I found that the value of leadership is

priceless. The climate has changed drastically, from a cooperative, serene

learning environment to a place where only the fittest survive. Luckily, my

leadership training from high school and college has paid of f. I was quickly

promoted from purchasing agent to procurement supervisor. As a further step in

becoming a business leader, I recently accepted an offer from Rain Bird to be a

buyer/planner. In this role, I am in total control of two product lines that

make about $15 million in sales each year. Although I have learned new ways to

manage labor and products, in this new position I have finally found my

leadership qualities to be inadequate. I need to discover how engineering

changes, climate changes, and marketing promotions of Rain Bird and its

competitors affect my product lines. I want to learn how information systems

enhance and ease business transactions, and how to be more productive and

efficient in this global economy. After consulting several fellow co-workers who

have studied in UCLAs FEMBA Program, I think studying there would help me

continue on my path of success.

I have made my most important personal and professional accomplishments as

a member of APICS, the Educational Society for Resource Management. A co-worker

introduced me to this organization. At first, I was reluctant to join because I

thought, "I already have a degree in operations management; why do I need to

join an association in which I would learn nothing new?" As time went on I found

out more and more about this prestigious organization and gradually discovered

that by contributing to the it I could improve my managing abilities. I quickly

became certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM). After about a

year, I was appointed director of the San Gabriel Valley Chapter of APICS, which

is the most cherished accomplishment I have to date. Running a chapter is like

running a small business. There is a national body, like a government, which

establishes by-laws and rules to which we have to adhere. We have to market

ourselves, capture customers(members) and make them happy by offering our

products and services. We book classrooms and sponsor workshops on different

aspects of manufacturing for members and non-members. Every month we have a

joint meeting with the Anaheim chapter which features a renowned speaker. We

also create and publish a newsletter every month to update our members about

APICS and the latest manufacturing trends. Sometimes we solicit companies in the

San Gabriel Valley about the possibility of offering PICS classes onsite. The

greatest challenge in directing an APICS chapter is in financing all of the

chapters activities. The most valuable benefit I have gained from being an APICS

director has been the ties I have developed with fellow directors and members.

In API CS, I continually meet new colleagues. They come from large and small

companies, and in positions from receiving clerks to vice presidents. We all

meet to discuss the latest trends in manufacturing and job opportunities around

the area. By learning from each other, we can improve our companies’ bottom

lines . As an APICS director, I have learned a lot about marketing and finance.

I would not have been able to gain such valuable knowledge without hands-on

experience. The entrepreneurial abilities I have developed in this position will

prove useful as I move further along my path to business success. 3. There are

many reasons why I believe this is the perfect time for me to start the Fully

Employed MBA Program at UCLA. With regard to gaining knowledge, I have been

learning continuously since high school. During high school summer breaks, I

took SAT workshops, and in college, I took classes even in summer quarters. When

I graduated and started working, I studied to become CPIM-certified for APICS.

Starting the MBA program now is the next most logical step in my career. In

terms of career advancements, I am also pushing myself to the limit.

I was quickly promoted to a supervisory level at Rain Bird and to a

directing position at APICS. I want to keep my pace on this fast career track.

Starting the MBA program now will surely open doors to upper management

positions within Rain Bird. With regard to personal goals, I have wanted to go

to UCLA since high school. I got accepted by the undergraduate school but

financial difficulties forced me to choose a state university. Getting my MBA at

UCLA will be a childhood dream come true. Last but not least in making this the

ideal time for me to pursue an MBA is the great support from people around me.

My wife believes getting an MBA will improve the quality of our lives; my

parents think that with an MBA I can be an exemplary model for my brother and

sister; co-workers that are already in the FEMBA program told me the program is

excellent and the experience worthwhile; and my plant manager, who is a FEMBA

alumna, told me it was the best two and a half years she ever spent in school.

With my high expectations and support from others, I am confident that I can

succeed at UCLA. I am ready to start the FEMBA program this fall.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen

Dear _,

“Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have

one” Stella Adler.

Where the line of normalcy is shaped differently in the eyes of artists, as

everything is relative, there exists the freedom that only artists can create –

the space, colour and texture on which that line of normalcy lies, in order to

make it one at all.

To extent my egomania is an honest tool of my style, it is in need of

elaboration and solidifying within the disciplines and professionalisms in

studying art at college.

As an AS Psychology student, I learnt that the perception of stress is

relative “ where I find the paranoia of my reality stressful, it is much of my

escape that I share with many others to spend time doing Art & Design

(currently at A2) in free-periods and after school to produce more research,

drawings, developed experiments and final pieces, from my C at GCSE to an A for

AS. I am also predicted an A for A2. This drive came from a particular

experience, which I'd rather not speak of.

More relevantly, I am experienced in etching and print-press, collagraph,

photography, life sketches, multi-media and Photoshop. I have used a range of

materials in previous artworks: works on canvas, and acrylic, installations,

multi-media works and film editing, of which I am able to use iMovie and

Cyberlink Power Director and have competent use of, as I take a personal

interest in film-making.

I have also voluntarily produced and edited advertisement films for 2

competing business studies classes where I was able to help creatively and

equally, providing that it was their own equipment and concept.

In studying English (Lit./Lang.) the analytical aspects have helped aquired

the appropriate information behind concept. As an aspiring poet, I have

contributed poems of my own to the school’s English Literature Magazine (of

students works) and have written for the 6th Form monthly Newsletter, ‘Rant N

Rave, for which I have written poetry and articles. I have also dispersed these

creative energies in Music Technology. At the Dubai 92.0 FM Radio Station, I was

able to take a glimpse into the radio industry, as well as accompany the

radio-jockey ‘Catboy’ on air. As there were 2 other students, we organized play

lists; part of the job was to understand the business aspect of airtime. In May

07, I was given the opportunity to work-shadow a General Planning Manager,

involving the planning of layouts and structures of building shopping malls for

Majid Al Futtaim, Dubai. This helped me realize the importance of relation

between physical demands of construction and planning.

I have obtained certificates and commendation letters, project

certificates, best advertisement for Shakespeare’s 12 Night Play (playing one of

the main characters roles as 'Maria'), intermediate snowboarding, skiing, and

have achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze.

As I have lived in and travelled countries from Malaysia to Switzerland,

France to Saudi Arabia, I have more cause to find a universal message that not

only makes us appreciate diversity, but unifies us as human beings. From a

Marxist perspective, I deliberately refuse to accept the pyramid of our society.

This is simply one constant idea and philosophy that even disturbs my sleep.

Fully aware of the competition that goes on in the media industry, with my

competitive and somewhat cynical characteristic; I am able to critically

self-evaluate which forces me to better myself constantly improving my skills

and techniques, adhering to the business aspects as well. Taking first year

studies or foundation art would help me explore more skill which I am capable in

a more professional and disciplined manner as well as improve specified research

work.

My aspirations are based on my persistency, enabling me to work adaptively

in the art business. I may work towards the Visual Communication, Painting,

Intermedia art or Illustration, not sufficed to say the least, and followed

entry into Second Year Studies to define my Specialism.

(1)留学申请书,一式2份,详细写明前往日本学习的目的和所选择的学科;

(2)个人履历,一式2份,写明本人从小学、中学或大学以及参加工作至今的情况;

(3)誓约书,由大使馆提供,本人照样抄写2份,最后由本人签名或盖章;

(4)日本入境签证申请表,每人填写两份;

(5)亲属关系表,由日本大使馆或领事馆提供;

(6)近期照片2张,必须和护照上的照片一致;

(7)申请人和保证人如果是亲戚关系,还需要办理亲属关系公证书一份;

Dear _,

I was the only sixteen-year-old in my first university classroom. It was

one of those defining moments where I was painfully aware of how different I was

from the people around me. I had not yet graduated from high school, and yet

there I sat in a class on personal and social adjustment, feeling an odd

combination of excitement and anxiety. I distinctly recall my heart pounding and

my irrational fear that, at any moment, someone would inform me that I did not

belong there. I was considered an oddity at my high school as the only student

in the history of the school to attend secondary and postsecondary institutions

simultaneously as a fulltime student. I was reminded of the fact not through

vast support from my school's faculty, but through blatant vocal

discouragement.

In an environment where a large majority of residents live below the

poverty level, it must have seemed strange that I would attend university early

instead of applying for employment. The initial hardships of my first year in

college did anything but deter me from wanting to study anthropology. Indeed,

the adversity I experienced only succeeded in intensifying it. My high school

classes were rather cold and clinical in their teachings, maintaining a firm

adherence to stating and memorizing facts with little or no attempt to have

students engage with the material. My interest in culture and my natural

response to analyze, question, and participate was stifled behind state

standards. In contrast, my fascination with culture was able to proliferate in

postsecondary schooling as a result of a liberal arts education and my own

proposed course of study.

My early education in anthropology started with a historical glance at

cultural theory through works of influential pioneers like Malinowski and Mead.

I became fascinated by the theoretical framework involved in cultural

exploration, especially how cultural beliefs and values play a role in the every

day lives of individuals. During a class on ritual and spectacle, I drove

headlong and enthusiastically into ideas of ritual importance and its impact on

societies. The subjects ranged from the roles of wedding rites to funerals, and

I analyzed certain ceremonies and assessed the meaning of their various

components. Another class taught by the same professor took ritual metaphor and

applied it to narrative. The course addressed European stories from an

analytical perspective, and I examined well-known folktales to yield their

ritual symbology. I found myself impassioned by the idea of exploring beyond the

superficial guise of narrative and seeing it as a meaningful way of expressing a

society's basic beliefs and ideologies. Immersing myself in the works of other

inspiring anthropologists, I examined texts on narrative form and nature, ritual

metaphor and the importance of storytelling in culture.

My interest in storytelling resulted in the subject of my undergraduate

thesis. I decided to focus on American narration, specifically concentrating on

expressions of masculinity in men's magazines. It discussed dialogue in

magazines as well as in teen male group settings, focusing on the

conceptualization and presentation of gender in both circumstances. My

overarching approach examined how masculine identity in the media has evolved

over the last century. I further presented how manly behavior was glamorized in

the text from three contemporary men's magazines, and juxtaposed it with an

ethnographic work about how young men communicate and assert their gender

roles.

My thesis topic is slightly removed from what I would like to study in

graduate school, but the process familiarized me with the prerequisites required

for social research. These included a delay in progress by routine realities,

such as gaining IRB approval to interview and observe minors, as well as being

forced to dig through the vast sea of material on women's magazines just to

yield the limited data done on men's publications. The college that I attended

also emphasized the importance of organizing one's own curriculum during junior

and senior years. It was an unrestricted program in which the student consults

with sponsors and plans his or her own course of study. This program approached

the undergraduate thesis with the same level of intensity and professionalism as

a graduate dissertation.

For my thesis, I assessed my topic and its requirements, efficiently

planning my eventual course of study. I organized tutorials with my sponsors and

established necessary reading lists that would contribute to my progress.

Tutorial discussions allowed me to gain a broad scope of the research process

and solidify my thesis into working theoretical, cultural and ethnographic

papers. I earned permission to conduct fieldwork at a local Boys and Girl's

club, and was approved to interview and observe the interaction between teenage

males at the club. For six months, I listened to the things they considered to

be important aspects of masculinity and used my time there as one example of

teenage suburban expression of larger societal gender roles. I was able to

further gain a taste of the graduate dissertation process when I successfully

defended my undergraduate thesis during an oral presentation to my sponsors and

an outside examiner.

The liberal arts education I received has given me the means to approach

social anthropology in a perceptive manner and to consider the various

intricacies that influence and shape certain aspects of culture. These were

abilities that grew and thrived in an educational environment that allowed me to

think critically about topics in anthropology and choose my own course of study.

I emerged from college not with textbook facts floating around in my psyche, but

with questions, thoughts and theories. I believe it is my undergraduate liberal

arts background that provides me with an aberrant and perceptive approach to

cultural anthropology.

During my hiatus between undergraduate and graduate education, I was able

to step back from the research that captivated me for two years in order to

reevaluate my goals in anthropology. While my break did not include leaving

school for an extended period, I used the time to once again study broadly in

the social sciences. By taking courses in psychology and other areas of

anthropology separate from my undergraduate focus, I challenged myself further

through exposure to different material and contrasting teaching styles, thereby

gaining an educated and informed understanding of my intended course of study

for graduate school. My extensive consideration of anthropology and the

combination of both my undergraduate and post-baccalaureate education has given

me the means to approach graduate school in a thoughtful and perceptive manner.

Additionally, this hiatus gave me the ability to devote necessary attention to

choosing graduate schools that will both challenge my views of cultural identity

and allow me to excel in anthropology.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen

Dear _,

“Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams die, life is a broken winged bird

that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field

frozen with snow.” These are the lines I recite to myself, whenever I formulate

a major objective in my life. Cherishing the desire to fully realize my

self-fulfillment, I have always hoped that my life will consist of materializing

a succession of aspirations and ideals.

Our dreams are the impetus that drives us to make progress. If we liken

ourselves to planes, our dreams are the maintenance and fuel that drive us

forward to reach our goals. Some planes may never have flied, while others may

have landed in many places. It all depends on their goals and jet fuel

supplement. Therefore, it is of great importance to set goals in life first and

then find the best place to replenish enough fuel supplements.

Proud of having more English learners than any other country in the world,

China has a more demand for English experts since its entry into the WTO. As an

English teacher who has worked in this field for over three years, I have a

clear vision of the future of English teaching in China, and I am determined to

scale a higher height in English in a more advanced country which is rich in jet

fuel. I am ready to take off.

During my undergraduate study, I majored in Marketing, and benefited a lot

from the multicultural environment at Beijing International Studies University,

where I was able to excel both academically and personally. Our school attaches

great importance to cultivating students in a practical way. We were required

not only to lay a solid foundation in our major coursework, but also to have a

good command of English so as to meet the demands of society. Within such a

nourishing atmosphere, I developed myself in a comprehensive way. Apart from my

major coursework study, I nurtured my gift for English and spent most of my

spare time teaching English to others. I worked as a part-time English teacher

at Li Yang Crazy English training school and as an English tutor to middle

school students and adults. My interest and ability in English grew in this

process.

I was recruited by Beijing Bayi Middle School to teach English after my

graduation. In order to enrich my experience,I studied by myself the educational

psychology in my spare time. I also did some research work comparing American

and Chinese education. I found that Chinese students and teachers are superior

to the Americans in knowledge accumulation, but we are inferior to Americans in

potential, because the American teachers have been exerting significant

importance on the students’ psychology while nearly 2/3 Chinese teachers are

poor in this aspect. Realizing such a problem in Chinese way of teaching, I have

perfected my teaching in daily life. For example, I often praised my students in

class no matter how simple the questions were; I adopted the “portfolio system

“in class especially for those from poor families or single-parent families to

“talk” with them in a more informal way; I encouraged the students who lagged

behind with the method of “yes-right hand and no-left hand” that is, if he or

she knew the answer, then they put his or her right hand up, vice verse…To my

delight, my endeavor paid in the end : nearly all of my students gradually

became more confident and like English more and more. Through the familiarity

with my students, I also gradually realized that an English teacher is more like

a helper to deliver the kernel of Western culture to cultivate the students’

characteristics than a person just imparting the knowledge.

In 2005, I helped to found the “Chinese University Alliance Education

Training Company” with my partner Wang Nuoda, a Lecturer of Communication

University of China. We are eager to help those students who have passion in

learning English while lack in methods. Besides teaching the students, I also

did some training work to the new employees, introducing them how to lead-in,

how to make the boring grammar more vivid, how to make the students more

interested in the class by using the PPT and real materials.

However, there are still things that make me confused. In China, parents

treat their children’s education very seriously. In recent years, with China’s

rapid development and the trend of globalization, parents have put more emphasis

on their children’s education in English - the universal language. Children are

exposed to English on the day they start kindergarten. Some poorer parents even

lead a bitter life to save money so that their children can attend an English

training program after class. However, such “English fever”, to some extent,

speeds up polarization of students’ English level, and more seriously, many

students’ “hate” English from a young age.

So, How to deal with this problem? I have been asking myself this question,

and have found the answer in myself. What I have mastered is far from enough for

me to figure out the best way to teach English. In addition, I think that I need

to improve myself in a comprehensive manner, not only in academic field but also

in personality. As we know, teachers are called the engineer of people’s soul.

So they must cultivate themselves both morally and professionally. With a

devoted heart to English education, I am determined to quit my present job and

add some jet fuel so that I can fly higher and further and finally land at my

designated destination.

As we know, the United States enjoys a high reputation in the theoretical

research and practice of TESOL. In my future study, I intend to learn the theory

of TESOL and English teaching methodology, i.e. how a teacher deals with the

problems found in the students and helps them achieve good study results.

Moreover, my study in your esteemed university will get me further acquainted

with the language and culture, communicate with the native-speakers and improve

my English ability in a comprehensive manner.

After finishing my Master’s program, I intend to continue my English

teaching at a top university in China, to contribute what I have learned to

those who need my help. Besides, I will be actively engaged in searching for

English studying methods that best suit the Chinese people, so as to turn out

more students with a skilled mastery of English that are required on China’s

market.

Your University is like an advanced airport that provides high quality

maintenance and jet fuel, and where I can land and from where I can fly further.

I have heard the call: “Yan Huijin’s flight is about to take off” and “Yan

Huijin’s flight is about to land at…“ I am convinced that I can reach my

destination. I can make it. My dream will come true.

Yours sincerely,

bzuowen
