ms. ho and i became friends right in the first semester i was in that middle school. at the same time, i was having a really hard time with my subjects. since i had just transferred from a bilingual school, where i had stayed for two months after arriving in the us, my english was horrible; my average grade was below c. i almost thought it impossible to learn english. then, one day she told me she strongly believed that i was capable of controlling my life, and i would be just fine. she said that she found we were much alike: both were stubborn, kind-hearted and a little bit simple-minded. she believed that i had the quality of becoming wise. she even said that she didn’t have any worries about me, about my not learning english. with her encouragement, i found the strength within myself and began to desire to work even harder. as a result, i soon proved her right, and at the end of the semester, i got a 3.8 average grade.

today, i still keep in touch with her, and she still tells me how she believes in me. sometimes, i’d think back, and wonder how i could handle all those things if it wasn’t for her encouragement andtrust. could i be the person i am today? then, it struck me: what we need has always been trust andloveof others; because these things inspire us to do our best, and to live our life to its fullest.

to sum up, i’d like to say to all of you: let us all appreciate trust and love of others and achieve our full potential in our life!

I earnestly hope to lead a healthy and prosperous life in the future. Judging from my aptitude inclination and personality streaks, my ideal life will be that of a scientist, researching, lecturing, and writing books.

As I am from a farming family, I particularly enjoy being close to earth. If I can afford to live a pastoral life in the countryside, I will feel most blessed. As far as social life is concerned, simplicity is what I intend to pursue, so I really don't need too many friends. All these will be mere talk if I am idle now. The House of 1000 Mirrors

Long ago in a small, faraway village, there was a place known as the House of 1000 Mirrors. A small, happy little dog learned of this place and decided to visit. everyone has a dream. i often ask myself. when i was a little boy, i wanted to be a soldier with a gun so that i could defend our motherland.now i am a young boy with a new dream——to be a doctor. i want to be a famous doctor, helping the sick and saving their lives.

New Year's Day is one of important days for many people in the world during the year. Most people spend the New Year's Day in hotels. January 1st is considered as the New Year's Day. Most companies, shops, school, and government offices are closed during that time. People prepare for New Year's Day from late December. First, people spend a few days to clean their houses completely. Some families then put up some new painting from November to be sent in January. Everything about my future was ambiguously assumed. I would get into debt

by going to college, then I would be forced to get a job to pay off that debt,

while still getting into more and more debt by buying a house and a car. It

seemed like a never-ending cycle that had no place for the possibility of a

dream.

I want more—but not necessarily in the material sense of personal wealth

and success. I want more out of life. I want a passion, a conceptual dream that

wouldn’t let me sleep out of pure excitement. I want to spring out of bed in the

morning, rain or shine, and have that zest for life that seemed so intrinsic in

early childhood.

Failing is what makes us grow, it makes us stronger and more resilient to

the aspects of life we have no control over. The fear of failure, although, is

what makes us stagnant and sad. So even though I couldn’t see the future as

clearly as before, I took the plunge in hopes that in the depths of fear and

failure, I would come out feeling more alive than ever before.

One day, if someone gets up on the right side of the bed and calls me and

says:’ You are the greatest person on earth. You are doing a great job and I

want you to know I am honored to call you a friend.” I know he is sincere. How

Maths in my Eyes

Hi everyone. My topic today is Maths in my Eyes.

When I mention the word “maths” some adjectives will come to mind, boring, difficult and complicated. But I think maths is very interesting. It is used almost everywhere in our life and also related to art and music.

We all know one geometrical concept, the golden section. It's very important in painting, sculpture and architecture, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Venus de Milo. In nature a little pentagonal flower has its golden section. It looks beautiful.

What about its connection with music? Lets take a look at a straight and tight string. Pluck it, and then halve its length, then pluck it again. The sound we hear is the same note but a higher frequency. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras discovered this law and it developed into the musical scale we know today.

Another example is from the famous composer, Bach. When we listen to his music in “Well-Tempered Clavier”, we find the notes are always getting higher .But amazingly, in the end, it comes back to the initial height. Why is it? That's why Bach was great! It's a very interesting maths problem. We call it a paradox.

These days we learn maths at school. The only purpose is to get a high mark. But I personally think that those with curious and creative minds will open the door to the world of maths. Just as Galileo said, “Mathematics is the alphabet with which God has written the universe”. Maths, in my eyes, is a fascinating subject that needs our passion and imagination.
