Hi everyone. My topic today is Maths in my Eyes.

When I mention the word “maths” some adjectives will come to mind, boring, difficult and complicated. But I think maths is very interesting. It is used almost everywhere in our life and also related to art and music.

We all know one geometrical concept, the golden section. It's very important in painting, sculpture and architecture, such as the Parthenon in Athens and the Venus de Milo. In nature a little pentagonal flower has its golden section. It looks beautiful.

What about its connection with music? Lets take a look at a straight and tight string. Pluck it, and then halve its length, then pluck it again. The sound we hear is the same note but a higher frequency. The Greek mathematician Pythagoras discovered this law and it developed into the musical scale we know today.

Another example is from the famous composer, Bach. When we listen to his music in “Well-Tempered Clavier”， we find the notes are always getting higher .But amazingly, in the end, it comes back to the initial height. Why is it? That's why Bach was great! It's a very interesting maths problem. We call it a paradox.

These days we learn maths at school. The only purpose is to get a high mark. But I personally think that those with curious and creative minds will open the door to the world of maths. Just as Galileo said, “Mathematics is the alphabet with which God has written the universe”。 Maths, in my eyes, is a fascinating subject that needs our passion and imagination. In the end I hope you love this boundless treasure and enjoy the magical world of maths!

Once there were two mice. They were friends. One mouse lived in

the country; the other mouse lived in the city. After many years the Country

mouse saw the City mouse; he said, "Do come and see me at my house in the

country." So the City mouse went. The City mouse said, "This food is not good,

and your house is not good. Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should

come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You

would have nice food to eat. You must come and see me at my house in the

city."

The Country mouse went to the house of the City mouse. It was a very good

house. Nice food was set ready for them to eat. But just as they began to eat

they heard a great noise. The City mouse cried, " Run! Run! The cat is coming!"

They ran away quickly and hid.

After some time they came out. When they came out, the Country mouse said,

"I do not like living in the city. I like living in my hole in the field. For it

is nicer to be poor and happy, than to be rich and afraid."

Stepping into the new century environment pollution has become more serious than ever since. There are different kinds of pollution. Such as water pollution air pollution and noise pollution and so on. It seems that we live on a planet which is full of pollution. where all these pollution comes from? To a large extend the environmental destruction is the heavy price that we pay for the rapid development of economy and the growing population. In order to have more fuel people cut down trees and dig more corals. But the growing needs for energy are hardly to meet. Countless private cars on the street the gas stations are short of gasoline even the government has raise the price so many times in order to control the needs of gasoline but it’s still not working. Overusing the natural resources has already affected the ecological balance. However the factories still release the toxic air into the sky and the polluted water into the rivers. People still lack of the conscious of protecting the environment. I think it’s time for all of us to do something.

The government should put forward some more strict laws to prevent the environment from being further polluted. And they should let people know more about the importance of environment protection. And we should find the balance between the economic growth and environmental protection. Plant more trees in the deserts and stop cutting down the forest. Forbid the factories to pour the waste water into the rivers directly. Encourage people to use public transportations to work. Both government and ordinary people should join hands together to make our home clean and fresh again. Only in this way our earth could be a better place to live in.

Unforgetable Experience

Once I changed my attitude toward everything, I recognized my world, my future and myself. It happened when my friends and I had almost finished our last academic year and were invited by our lovely and friend like teachers to an amazing trip, to Issyk-Kul, the pearl of Kyrgyz land. About five of my best friends and I were going to the breathtaking places of our motherland where we decided to have an unforgettable days of our life.

And when we were on the way to Tam chi, a fertile garden village of wooden chocolate-box cottages and shady, poplar-lined avenues, my teacher said with his funny voice, ?Listen everybody! Now we are on the way to Issyk-Kul, and I want you not to sleep on first mission of our summer vacation because you could not realize the beauty of nature and compose an essay on your final exam. And some of us really didn’t sleep after his funny advice, trying to get a real pleasure from staring at the grand mountains. But during the way the others of us were just listening the music, joking to each other and flying in their dreams. Finally, we reached the place where everyone changed their face and had a big smile, which showed that all of us were really pleased of seeing our magic lake. After some times later, we got into our nest! and then had first unforgettable dinner near the lake and under the thousands of blazing stars, which reminded us that we were in paradise. And it was indeed amazing? On the next day, after having a wonderful breakfast, we went to the beach for swimming and having a sunbath. When I saw the warm and silk like soft water that was attracting all of us, I rushed to it and noticed that not only I was running like a wild animal, but all my friends did the same as well. The water is excellent, said one of us. Yeah, it is, replied another one. But after a little time, there were again coming lots of voices like, WOW, Cool, and many other sounds that showed our both surprise and gladness. We were happy and at the same time tired. So we went back to have lunch and then to get asleep. Everyone was sleeping when one of my friends and I were playing cards and discussing about our aims in life and about friendship. I thought that having the best friends makes me feel self-assured in my decisions and be full for a real life by recognizing its wellnein community and nature. I thought that only with them I could get a hand and find the way in ! my own life path by discovering my abilities and finding out my great wishes in life. But after some minutes my friend and I were sleeping and continuing discussing, and this time in our dreams.

In evening, we were usually watching comedy films and films about the battles. But on another day we decided to have a party, so we went to a local disco named as Discovery. And the life would be more interesting that night if I didn’t quarrel with my best friend. We started arguing only for our own interests; he insisted on drinking some alcohol and dance, I insisted on not doing that because it would bring big problems and moreover it would be shame on ourselves. Unfortunately, all my friends were against me, because they thought that we could afford drinking alcohol considering that we were about to finish our school. That night I lost all my best friends just in a moment. All my thoughts about friendship were ruined; my heart burst into small pieces that will never be joined any more. And from that moment I started to build everything in my life from zero. I became more serious with my attitude toward people and became more careful myself as well.

Nick, a 25-year-old Australian, was born without limbs. He used to be made

fun of for looking like a monster. Everything seemed impossible to him. However,

Nick never gave up. With great efforts, he finally learned to swim, fish and

even surf. What surprised me is that he completed a university education and got

two degrees. And now he is the CEO of two companies. Nick believes: Attitude is

altitude. In his eyes, nothing is impossible. He thinks a positive attitude is

the key to success.

After reading Nick’s story, I have been feeling inspired by his spirit.

Compared with him, we are healthy enough to enjoy life. Somehow, we are always

frustrated facing difficulties. I think Nick has set a good example to us. Try

to appreciate what we do have and be more persevering and we will achieve

success in the end.

There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want

to pick them from your dreams and hug them for real! Dream what you want to

dream;go where you want to go;be what you want to be,because you have only one

life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.

When we are appreciating the passionate melody of Gloria Estefan, we could hardly imagine that she could return to the stage after her paralysis. In the year 1990, this Cuban singer was knocked down in a traffic accident, and the doctor declared that she might never walk again. But Gloria did notGiveup and kept up constant exercising. Just one year after the disaster, she stood up again and presented this encouraging song at the Atlanta Olympics.

Whenever I think of Gloria, I can’t help recalling my memory seven years ago, when I first entered university. Naturally shy, ordinary looking, average scores in study, just like an ugly duckling, I seemed to be the least outstanding one in my class. And the successive failures in the beginning led me into despair. “Am I destined to take the back seat to others?” Unwilling to submit to the fate, I paid more efforts on my study as well as many other activities, film dubbing, recital, drama… cause I just want to catch every little opportunity to prove myself. January 1st is New Year’s Day。 It‘s a great day for all the people throughout the world。 As the saying goes， “A good beginning is half the battle”。 So， many people go all out to celebrate the important day。

On that day， I went to the Book City with my classmates。 We bought a lot of useful reference books and interesting story books。 I believe “Knowledge is power”。 I hope I can learn a lot from these books and improve my study。 In the evening， my family had a big dinner party。

My Favorite Places

Many people have favorite places they like to go to when they are feeling sad or bored.I,too,have favorite places that I go to as often as I can.

Here are the three places that I like most.First of all,I like the zoo.The animals are amazing because some are so cute and some are so ugly!I like to pet them,feed them and watch them perform.Museums are cool places,too.They have good exhibits and fascinating displays.I like the works of art there.Some museumsteach me a lot about history and science.From dinosaus to robots,I love it all.Finally,theme parks are a blast.I love to go on the wild rides.I think the roller coasters are the best.It's fun to scream and get scared.

These places always cheer me up.I tyr to go to each of my favorite places once a year.I am going to find more favorite places to go to when I grow up.

Compared with the forty year old shabby dormitory I am living in now, the

one I lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared

one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.

In three years time we changed it thoroughly:the color of the floor turned

from bright pink into muddy gray, and the closet a hive of insects proliferating

among piles of rotten fruit.And our masterpiece was the bathroom, a never drying

swamp which served as the habitat of various kinds of mold, and even rodents,

rats would occasionally take the trouble to pay us a visit, and.., all three of

us felt like sobbing when we at last had to say good bye to our lovely filthy

dormitory. Maybe it is because that the dormitory had changed us as well as we'd

changed it.

The first lesson our dormitory taught us was to look after ourselves.

Frankly speaking, we were not good students at all. I still remember the

underwear that was soaked in soapy water for one and a half years before it was

finally thrown away. Almost each of the boys' dormitories had gradually

developed its own unique "fragrance" usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed

socks, stunk towels and some junk food. We could tell one dormitory from another

by sniffing instead of looking. Our tolerance towards untidiness was

amazing.

However, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress. Bit by

bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin

when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful

attempt to refurbish the floor. The point was that we were not obeying any

order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live

in a better place. Though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was

the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the

responsibility.

Thus it was not surprising that I often found myself the only one to clean

up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my

roommates felt normal of it.

When talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life,

we should never leave out one thing. This was what we called "bed talks". Though

it was considered "illegal,"there was nothing to stop us from deliberately

starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. It was our favorite

and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our

parents are for work. What was the most common topic?Girls, of course! What

other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying comfortably

in bed? We judged them,ranked them, argued over them night after night without

feeling the slightest sense of boredom for three whole years. Were we

maniacs? Who is not a maniac at eighteen?

This afternoon I went to see my friend Liu Ying. She has been ill for three days and this morning she felt even worse, so her father took her to the hospital. The doctor examined her carefully and said it was nothing serious. She got a common cold,but she had better stay in bed for two or three days. After taking some medicine she felt much better.

Liu Ying looked still worried. She was afraid of missing her lessons. I told her not to worry. I could help her with her lessons.I hope she will be all right and keep up with others.

As the song goes “ Myfutureisn’t a dream .” I love the song which brings me confidence when singing it every time . I believe that all our dreams can come true if we have courage to pursue them .When I was young my father always asked me what I would be in the future . Sometimes I found it very hard to give a certain reply . “ I want to be a doctor .” “ I want to be a teacher .” and “ I ’d like to be a scientist !” Many of these answers are perhaps very childish and ridiculous . But I never think they are far away .

How time flies! Who is able to give a definition to his future ? I know clearly that those high buildings are based on solid foundation . As a student , I should have a reasonable aim , and study hard . My goal is to enter the best university for further study after middle school . I know it’s hard work , and I ’ll come across many difficulties and frustrations . But no matter what they are , I’ll keep working on it and never give up . My teacher says there ’s only one kind of people that are truly successful : those who are brave enough to put up with hardships . 一、树立信心，明确目标，采取灵活多变的教学方法

信心是动力，目标是方向。我们知道初三英语生词多，课文长而且难，听、说、读、写要求高。学生在学习中将会碰到许多困难，因此，信心十足，目标明确是成功地进行英语教学的一个重要因素。首先，教师要上好课。如：备好课，吃透教材，抓住重点、难点，做到有的放矢。其次，教师要提高授课的效率，注重授课的艺术，活跃课堂气氛，激发学习爱好，采用灵活多变的教学方法。

英语学习切不可盲目，周密有效的计划。同时老师要给学生明确各阶段的学习目标，并制定相应的措施来保证目标的实施，要加大督促检查的力度，并在此基础上进行总结。在教学过程中，应留意思想教育与知识教学互相渗透，寓思想素质教育于知识教育之中，如：向学生讲述中国经济的迅猛发展急需大量的外语人才、北京奥运会的举办更需要更多的人会讲英语等，让学生熟悉到学英语的重要性，鼓励学生树立远大的理想，努力学好英语。

二、夯实基础，查漏补缺

英语基础对于英语学习至关重要，对英语基础不好的同学更应加强这一要求。如何在较短的时间内做到这一点呢?

1.找出不足，查补缺漏

查缺补漏主要体现在语音、词汇、日常交际用语上。语音和词汇的补漏工作应穿插在教学单词的时候进行。在教新词的过程中及时讲解有关的语言知识和单词辩音，及时归纳所学过的单词;在复习时要善于触类旁通，形成语音类、单词串，力争使没有把握的语音、词汇逐一巩固。日常交际用语的补漏要融汇于“四会”的语言运用中。要努力使基础知识转化为技能，要不断提高英语的日常交际能力，力争做到听得懂、说得脱、读得畅、写得神。

2.立足课本，夯实基础

我们知道，初三英语学习主要是以深化基础知识为主。我想，在学习中要分阶段学习，在第一阶段要以大纲为标准，以课本为依据，按照课本的编排顺序，每一册、每一单元、每一课都要细致地学习，力求基础，全面。所谓基础，是指学习要抓住“三基”，即基础知识、基本技能和基本解题方法。所谓全面，一是指学习要全面覆盖所学知识，不遗漏任何一个知识点，二是要面向全体学生，防止“片面追求高分”现象，绝不能冷落“差生”。

三、模拟练习，综合提高

查缺补漏后，学生的基础知识已比较全面、系统、完整。但是对于重点内容还要以专题的形式进行练习，以便于进一步突出重点。同时要强化易错点，为达到这一目的，教师要选取高质量的模拟练习题进行练习，然后进行讲评。那么，如何讲评呢?好的讲评应该在讲评之前认真地分析，找出学生的错点，并在课堂上讲评时抓住这些错点，帮助学生弄清出错的原因，使学生及时纠正错误。同时，讲评不能就题论题，而是应该抓住试题中的典型题目，讲清原理，归纳方法，总结规律，并对典型题目进行引申、推广。要做好这一点，需要留意以下两方面：

1.课本为主，资料为辅

那种迷信资料而放弃课本的做法是本末倒置的，同时，那种排斥资料中所提供的先进信息的做法是固步自封的。无庸质疑，课本是基础，而好的资料则是加深课本、提高能力的重要手段。任何资料都不能代替课本，但资料可以突出课本的重要内容，可以提供课本中所不具有的先进理念和与时俱进的信息。因此，无论是开始复习的夯实基础阶段，还是构建知识网络、归纳基本方法及技巧阶段，都要在立足于课本的基础上进行。但同时，也要精选有典型性和针对性的资料，这样有利于学生把握方法和解题规律。

2.讲练结合，练重于讲

基础知识的总结、知识网络的构建、基本方法和技巧的归纳都离不开讲，但更离不开练。不练习，学生所获得的知识就不牢固，更不能深化，因此，练比讲更重要。要精讲，也就是要突出重点，抓住要害;要多练，就是让学生做足量练习，但杜绝那种不加选择的重复练习，要有针对性。

总之，初三阶段学习的方法很多，但正确把握以上三点是学好英语行之有效的方法。只有让学生们树立必胜的信心，夯实基础并有针对性的练习，一定会提高学习效果，在竞争中立于不败之地。

My Oscar Dream

On the night of March 1, the 76th Annual Academy Awards was shown on television. After watching it, I had a dream, a sudden wish, that some day, I could receive an Oscar award, or a nomination, for a movie I've made.

While I was schooling in Australia, my friends from school and I received a n assignment one day, "To make a ten to twenty minute movie on the topic of your choice." At the time, the trend was based around the popular Matrix movie trilogy, so that became our obvious choice.

Because our schedule was very tight, and it was a first time experience, we found it all very hard work, but when we released our production at school, it was worth it. After my friends and I showed the movie, we could not get from one end of the school to the other without getting congratulated about five or six times. We, especially I, were proud. We made a school-wide sensation.

From then on, I became obsessed with how to make movies and how filming is done. I just wanted to know about everyone and everything that has something to do with movies. I would watch a movie four to five times, just to find out how one camera angle, or special effect was produced. I found everything I watched quite amazing. I sometimes admired directors and producers of these films because the techniques they use are so smart. Their cleverness inspired me to make and act in movies.

When I become little bit older, I would like to attend a movie academy in Beijing or Shanghai, then America, or England, after some training and experience, I would like to make a movie, which will most likely be an action movie, which is my favorite kind of movie to watch.. If I am lucky, I hope I would get an Oscar Award for this movie. I think that would be quite a challenge, but it’s not impossible. For now, it’s back to watching movies over and over again for me!

What success means to me?

Once upon a time, an old rich woman left all her property to the person who could answer her question correctly. Her question was this “what is the most important thing for a person who wants to succeed?” To my surprise, the answer was not money, not power, not even opportunity, but “ambition”.

Why is ambition so important? A person without ambition is like a near-sighted lion. All the things in the distance appear blurred. No matter how strong it is, it can't go far.

A lion lives to rule the whole plain. A person must prove that “I am a king here”, at least you are the king of yourself.

Nowadays, the world is very competitive. Even if you get to the top of your own field, there might be still someone better than you. So we have to ask ourselves: what is the proof of success? I believe it is doing something for this world.

Remember: As a successful person, in addition to ambition, the other key you must hold is love. When you look back at history, you'll find you were standing on the shoulders of the giants. You have enjoyed what they had left you. So we should live to work for the improvement of the world. From president to citizen, we should all take part in building a new WWW for which I have my own explanation ----it is“of the world, by the world, for the world”. Only as a member of the global village, can you feel you are really successful.
