Good morning! i am very glad to be here to share my college life with you

.

Two years ago, i came into this city of and started my college life , the

most memorable journey of my life. i was just a shy and little girl that time.

all the things seemed fresh to me: new faces, large library and physics lab etc.

i breathed the air of college greedily, i was curious about everything.the class

given by the teachers are excellent.they provide us with information not only

from our textbook but from other sources as well.i actively involved in student

union and varies of association. but soon i realized that i do not make full use

of my spare time ,so i got a part-time job to help a junior student with math

lessons besides,i also took part in activities concerning public welfare. we

taught the kids there who could not afford school, i was deeply touched by their

eagerness to learn, the precious experience with the poor kids made me aware of

the responsibility on the shoulders of us--future teachers. the enrichment of

experience taught me the significance of modesty,responsibility,tolerance,and

perseverance.

and now i have been here two years. recalling to the two years, i think i

have to talk about one thing--learning. learn how to study independently, learn

comparing with senior high school, college is a rather different place.

By the time we are born onto this land, our own Chinese story begins. Only when we put our stories together, can we discover something new.

My mom was among the first generation in China to pick up a dual major, trade together with English. Her mom, my grandma, was a professor at the same college. And now, I am following my family’s footsteps, at the same university. I want to accomplish a dream that has been passed on for three generations.

When grandma entered college, she was in the age of prime, but education wasn’t. It was an age when China had a literacy of merely over 50 percent; it was an age when one out of eight got enrolled by a university or college; it was an age when even the top-class universities in China were not recognized by the world. It was with the aspiration of changing education for the better that my grandma became a teacher, in pursuit of teaching students at home and learning more about the abroad.

When my mother crossed the threshold of higher education into college, she was experiencing the tides of the Reform and Opening-up. It was an age when China was ready to embrace the world. With the demand for English talents staying high, she brought her talents to the field of international trade, with the hope of broadening her horizon and telling her international clients a Chinese story.

30 years later, it is already a new era when I step into the classroom where my mom and my grandma studied. The ambience in the renovated classroom is urging me to embark on a new journey; yet on the bookshelf, the books passed on since my grandma’s age is reminding me of a dream that has never changed: becoming a language scholar with a global vision, and be a good narrator of the Chinese story.

I took out my grandma’s notebook, which was already old and gray, trying to learn something new from the past. On the frontpage, wrote one of the earliest Chinese stories, taken from the Great Learning: “If you can do something new, then let it happen every day. With perseverance, every day becomes a new day.”

It was the moment when I realized that there has been something unchanged in the new era: that is always equipping ourselves with the new ideas and keep in pace with the time which never waits. Only by bearing this virtue in our minds that has inherited by the Chinese people for 5,000 years, can we gain both the confidence and the competence in telling a good Chinese story to all.

Tell the Chinese story to the Chinese people, for a new China with cultural confidence; tell the Chinese story to every global citizen, and together we build a community of prosperity, peace, and a shared future. The story of my mom, my grandma and myself will always remind me of the mission of a language learner.

I’m now crossing the threshold into a New Era, and now I fell I am ready to tell a new Chinese story to new audience. Thank you very much!

The topic of my speech is "the hardness of life"

I'm grateful that I've been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.

Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years.

In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.

The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.

One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldn't forgive myself. I simply couldn't forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, Why didn't you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? Why didn't you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?

I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.

Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never again did I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best I can.

I grew up with all kinds of dreams. Today I want to share two of them. They both have to do with playing musical instruments.

When I was four, Mom bought me an electric piano. The black instrument standing in the middle of the house scared me. Day after day, I had to practice with my piano teacher. I never liked her, and all I could remember about her was her impatient words, “Wrong,” “Wrong” and “Wrong” again. And Mom was always on her side, saying I was not smart enough or I did not practice hard enough.

I did this for a year, but I never developed any interest. I practiced everyday simply because I had to. Many times in my dreams, I saw the long faces of Mom and the teacher and heard their stern words. Really, the dream should be more appropriately called a nightmare. Then one day, I saw Mom talk with the piano teacher softly, and afterwards, that teacher never showed up again, and the piano disappeared, too. Mom was unhappy, but I was glad because now I could watch cartoon shows on TV after dinner, never again any piano.

In a few years’ time, the dream of another instrument started, and it started during an urheen or erhu concert given by a distinguished musician. The melodious tune carried me away, and I felt I was lying on the grassland, indulging myself with mild sunshine and sweet flowers. As the music stopped, I realized this had been a beautiful dream, and I would like to continue this dream. That musician later on became my urheen teacher. For two years, he made me practice one hour every day, and the objective was to have me play urheen with him on the same stage. Whenever I made a mistake, he would also be quite harsh and made me practice even more. The pressure was indeed unbearable, but at the same time, the dream that started during that concert continued. When I was practicing, the dream seemed to carry me away, and moreover, my parents seemed to be in the dream too. They sat and listened quietly, as if they were also lying on the grassland, enjoying the sunshine and flowers. Anyhow, pressure was mingled with passion, and they worked together in pushing me forward. Each step of progress came from hard work but also brought immense pleasure.

I admit that in the world of urheen, I was lucky in finding a balance between pressure and passion. In real life, however, there is often too much pressure, but too little passion, just like my piano nightmare. From primary school on, we have been forced to study day and night, to take tests every day, to copy vocabulary items five times and to recite every lesson in front of the teacher. All the dreams pupils have are the long faces of their teachers and parents, but not dreams with sunshine and flowers.

I hope all teachers will realize that learning cannot go on without passion. I still remember my first urheen performance with my teacher. I was under much stress and didn’t sleep much the night before because I knew if I screwed up, it would also affect his reputation. When I walked onto the stage, I was so nervous that I almost held the urheen upside down. When the lights went on, to my great surprise, I saw my parents, fellow students and other teachers sitting on the first few rows, with big smile on their faces. It was just like the time when I was practicing. Passion suddenly overwhelmed me, and I played so well that night that even my urheen teacher didn’t know why. Of course I knew it, and I know my dream of playing urheen will continue.

evolutionary story. From the origin, the lives of the human being are equal to

Nevertheless, for some inexplicable reasons, the human becomes the spirits of

all creatures. Of course, it is the result of the evolution, but still we should

be grateful to all our companions in nature for the opportunity they offer. In

spite of this, humans cannot live without earth.

They live on the earth, drink the sweet water, and enjoy the sunshine, the

air, the sky, the fruit; the grains utilize the energy and so on. In a word, the

human being cannot live without nature, and Mother Nature makes us grow

stronger. I do not like the word "Pet", but preferring the word "Animal"

instead. I have been loving animal since I was just a little boy. When thinking

of the "Pet Fashion", I always feel much annoyed. For the animals will be given

a shackle and lose their liberty if they become someone's pets. Their natural

attribution can be deprived, too. Up to now, relying on their scientific power,

the human have opened up too much and over developed nature, in order to fill up

their growing appetites of wealth.

They destroy the balance of nature, however, they don't realize, their own

development and existence will be threatened. Therefore, our sights should be

focused on nature and we should try to develop the concept of "keeping human and

nature in unity". We should lay emphasis on our education with consider cultural

and natural emotion. To use the vivid example to wake up the conscience in

people's hearts.

As we all know, "Failure is the mother of success." But few people can really understand what the saying means.

In the world, I am sure that no one dare say he hasn't met any trouble all his life. So we must face failure. In fact, failure is not fearful, but important thing is how to face it correctly. Facing failure, people will never take their fate lying down. They will try their best to work harder and harder until at last they succeed.

Not being courageous to face setbacks, people have no chance to enjoy the pleasure of success. So they have nothing to do but feel sad and empty all day and all night. In fact, they lose the chance of success themselves.

即兴演讲比赛大体可以分为两种。一种是在比赛之前，给演讲者一个较大的内容范围和一段准备时间，在比赛中再抽题演讲。另一种则是没有内容范围，只是在演讲开始后抽题，做短暂准备后即开始演讲。前者表现出模糊性的特点，后者表现出临场性的特点。根据这两者的各自特点，其准备方法也有两种：

①模糊性准备方法。演讲者在一个较大的范围里得知了演讲内容，但并不了解具体题目。在这个基点上进行准备，首先要多做一些深度上，也就是哲学上的思考。其次是纵向与横向上的比较与结合。从哲学上思考问题，就是要求演讲者具备比较宏观的把握事物的能力，能居高临下地看待问题，全面深刻地思考。这时，虽然具体目标比较虚，但先有了准备，一旦拿到具体题目，模糊的目标就会迅速变得清晰起来。在这一准备方法中还要求演讲者围绕纵向与横向的比较与结合去丰富资料，充实内容。考虑的范围要大，挖掘要深。观点需要用人物事例来具体说明;人物事例丰富了，也容易归纳，总结出新的观点。

②临场性准备方法。即兴演讲者不知道演讲内容的范围，只是在比赛时才拿到题目，这种准备难度较大。为了在演讲前的几分钟内，把演讲的腹稿组织得较完善，通常的准备方法是“点的分布法”。当演讲者拿到题目后，在短暂的临场准备时间里，应该围绕着题目进行“点”的分布。“点”可以是一个很有感情色彩的事例，一句幽默风趣的话，一位伟人或者哲人的警句，所要阐述观点的核心词语等等。然后，就要马上考虑这些“点”之间的联系，围绕着主题，将其分布在恰当的位置上，最后连贯成文。

Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities for China's Younger Generation

Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Today I'm very happy to be here to share with you some of my thoughts on the topic of Globalization. And first of all, I would like to mention an event in our recent history.

Thirty years ago, American President Richard Nixon made an epoch-making visit to China, a country still isolated at that time. Premier Zhou Enlai said to him, "Your handshake came over the vastest ocean in the world - twenty-five years of no communication." Ever since then, China and America have exchanged many handshakes of various kinds. The fundamental implication of this example is that the need and desire to communicate across differences in culture and ideology is not only felt by the two countries but by many other nations as well.

As we can see today, environmentalists from different countries are making joint efforts to address the issue of global warming, economists are seeking solutions to financial crises that rage in a particular region but nonetheless cripple the world's economy, and diplomats and politicians are getting together to discuss the issue of combating terrorism. Peace and prosperity has become a common goal that we are striving for all over the world. Underlying this mighty trend of globalization is the echo of E. M. Forster's words, "Only connect!"

With the IT revolution taking place, traditional boundaries of human society fall away. Our culture, politics, society and commerce are being sloshed into a large melting pot of humanity. In this interlinked world, there are no outsiders, for a disturbance in one place is likely to impact other parts of the globe. We have begun to realize that a world divided cannot endure.

China is now actively integrating into the world. Our recent entry to the WTO is a good example. For decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. From the precarious role in the world arena to our present WTO membership, we have come a long way.

But what does the way ahead look like? In some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. Are they justified then, in criticizing the globalizing world? Instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow the developing nations' wealth in debts and interest. Globalization, they argue, should be about an earnest interest in every other nation's economic health.

We are reminded by Karl Marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. This has become a reality. Multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favorable policy. They are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market place and a devastating presence to local businesses.

For China, still more challenges exist. How are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? How to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? How to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? And how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? Globalization entails questions that concern us all.

Like many young people my age in China, I want to see my country get prosperous and enjoying respect in the international community. But it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. It is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. And, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. And this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. Thank you.

女士们、先生们，早上好。很高兴今天能在此就“全球化”这一主题来和大家谈谈我的想法。首先，我要提到的是近代史上的一件大事。

三十年前，美国总统理查德·尼克松来中国进行了具有划时代意义的访问，那时中国正受到美国孤立。周恩来对他说了这样一番话：“你与我的握手越过了世界上最为辽阔的海洋，这个海洋就是互不交往的25年。”自从那以后，美国和中国已经握过多次不同的手。这一事件充分表明:不同文化、不同意识形态之间的交流不仅仅是两个国家的需要和愿望，也是更多其它国家的心声。

正如我们今天所看到的，不同国家的环保专家们正齐心协力在全球变暖这一问题上各抒己见;经济学家们一同寻找着对付金融危机的办法，虽然这一危机只发生在一定区域，但它还是会阻碍世界经济的发展;外交官和政治家们则聚到一起探讨打击恐怖主义的问题。和平与繁荣已成为全世界共同奋斗的目标。如此强大趋势的“全球化”正应证了E. M. 福斯特的那句话：“但求沟通!”

随着IT产业的出现，传统的人类社会分界线也随之消失。我们的文化、政治、社会和商业都被放入一个人性的大熔炉里。在这个互相联系的世界里，没有局外人，任何地区性的不稳定因素都可能波及全世界。我们已意识到一个分裂的世界是无法长存的。

中国现在正积极地融入世界，前不久加入世贸就是一个很好的例子。几十年来，我们总是以自立为荣，但是现在我们意识到了参与和促成更为广阔的经济秩序的重要性。从世界舞台上的一个不稳定角色到如今的世贸组织成员，我们走过了一段漫长的路。

但是前方的路又将如何?世界上部分国家的人民示威游行，反对全球化。那么，他们责怪世界全球化有道理吗?他们又说，全球化只能使发达国家通过债务与利息吞并发展中国家的财富，而不是缩短贫富之间的差距。全球化，他们认为，应该是对其它国家经济健康的一种关注。

卡尔·马克思提醒我们，资本跨越国界，便会逃离对象国政治实体的管制，这一点已成为现实。跨国公司一直在实行寻求最低成本、最大市场和最多收益的政策。他们常常在政府做决定时施加强大的影响力，在全球市场上无情地扩张并在地区贸易中形成极强的杀伤力。

对于中国来说，仍然是挑战居多。我们如何确保从计划经济向市场经济平稳过渡?如何建立一个足够健全、足够广泛的法制体系来适应一个生机勃勃的社会的需要?如何在这个日益同化的世界中保持我们的文化特性?还有，如何树立我们这个爱好和平的国度的良好形象?全球化所牵涉的问题关系到我们大家。

和中国的许多同龄人一样，我期待着我的祖国变得繁荣，受到国际社会的尊重。但是对我来说，仅仅爱国是不够的，我们年轻人多做一些冷静的思考，把视野拓展到更大的问题上，这才是最为重要的。也许回答那些诸如全球化的问题并不是件容易的事，但是我们可以关注它们，对它们做一些认真的思考，这是我们迎接所有机遇和挑战的准备工作的第一步，这也是我准备这次演讲比赛时时刻刻的想法之一。谢谢!

that keeps you warm is your own temperature.” it is really true. we have to work

hard together with our friends, encourage

each other and help each other. when we receive love and friendship, we

should repay as much as we can.

finally, lets pray together now that one day, all of us could find the

person we want to find, and could enjoy a real beautiful friendship in our

Although we would all love to be Ms Popular at home and in the office, at

work the task is not to be liked, but to be effective, says computer sales

executive Andrea.

“This is possibly the single most important lesson we can learn. You can't

always be popular. You shouldn't have to be; it's not what you're there for.

Progress depends on having your own ideas and sticking to them. And that means

having the guts to make difficult decisions when you have to,” she says.

We're aware from day one in our first job that every decision we make is

either a building block or a stumbling block on our career path. We should use

the time to lay the groundwork of future respect by being professional,

responsible, innovative, diligent and reliable.

Respect is never given for nothing. Claire knew that she was offered a move

to Paris with her finance company because she had gained a reputation for

keeping cool under fire. And the next step up the ladder would depend on her

performance in Paris.

“It's essential to build regard if you're going to be able to do what you

want in your job,” she says. Winning respect enhances all you do. A proposal for

change is more likely to be well received; an application for a raise or a

request for promotion is more likely to succeed.

五.活动具体流程:

1.主持人出场致开场辞，介绍到场的嘉宾、评委，详细介绍“自我介绍”和“定题演讲”的比赛规则，并宣布比赛正式开始,。(2分钟)

2.比赛开始，每4名选手为一小轮进行比赛。每个选手先用英文自我介绍(限制在1分钟内)，之后随即进入“定题演讲”环节。(每人限时3分钟)(75分钟)

3.每一小轮比赛后，主持人上台公布上轮选手比赛得分。(30秒)(5分钟)

4.第一轮全部选手演讲结束后，主持人上台公布本轮选手比赛得分，并公布进入第二轮的选手(八强产生)。

5.八强选手上台亮相，随后下台进行下轮比赛的主题抽签。

6.主持人上台，宣布比赛进入“趣味英语谜语竞猜“，与观众进行互动。(6分钟)

7.随后第二轮比赛开始。主持人介绍第二轮比赛“即兴演讲”和“问答环节”的比赛规则。(3分钟)

When I was asked about this question for the first time ,without thinking it too much ,a word flash into my mind ——DREAM ,D-R-E-A-M.People more or less dream about different things ,to be a teacher ,a doctor ,a scientist ,a businessman and so on .All these people who have dreams should be respected ,because Dreams make the world go around .We grow great by our dreams.All big men are great dreamers in their youth.Everyone has a dream ,and everything starts as one’s daydream.

Martin Luther king had a dream.He desired for a future where blacks and whites would coexist harmoniously as equals.By speaking the way he did,he educated,he inspired,he informed not just the people there,but people throughout America and unborn generations.He pushed forward the pace of American black society towards the racial equality .

Thomas Edison had a dream.He dreamed of a lamp that could be operated by electricity,began where he stood to put his dream into action,and despite more than ten thousand failures,he stood by that dream until he made it a physical reality!And today,his dream lights up the world at night.

大家好!我很荣幸能在这里和大家分享我的想法，今天我将谈论一个关于梦想的东西--一个改变世界的词。

当我被问到这个问题的时候，没有想太多，一个字闪进我的脑海——梦，d-r-e-a-m.people或多或少的梦想不同的东西，是一个教师，医生，科学家，商人等等。所有这些人的梦想都应该得到尊重，因为梦想让世界运转。我们增长我们的梦想伟大，所有的伟人都是在青年时期伟大的梦想家。每个人都有梦想，一切都开始作为一个的白日梦。

Good afternoon! Ladies and gentlemen!

I am very happy to have the opportunity to attend this Competition.

My topic today is “Never Say Sorry Again!”

Do you feel sorry for the animals that are killed by the millions every

day?

Do we really need to kill animals?

Let us now think of the reasons for using dead animals. People often use

animals for food, make-up, medicine and especially for the clothes. Fur coats

are definitely a luxury. Yes, they are warm but really they are mostly a symbol

of wealth. Do you know how much a mink coat cost?

A report said in an open letter published recently, a Dutch animal-rights

group has asked their much-loved Queen to stop wearing fur. The Group pointed

out that making clothing from fur represents cruelty to animals. “ Fur belongs

to animals, not to human beings.”

Nowadays a lot of greedy people hunt and kill wild animals and birds, so as

to make money by selling their hides at high prices. This kind of killing should

be stopped and seriously punished. If we don't take actions to protect the wild

animals and birds, they will soon disappear from the globe. Man will one day

find himself a very lonely creature on earth indeed.

Until such a day, when we finally realized that we no longer have these

friends or neighbors, what are we human beings going to say? Sorry? No, it is

too late to say sorry to them.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please consider what I have said to you this

afternoon. Think carefully on whether we really need to use animals for our

pleasure if you have come to the conclusion that we are wrong. Then we should

now change our attitude so that we never say sorry again to the animal

population.

I like to look into the mirror. I remember when I was a little girl, I often stood on my toes, trying to find my face in the mirror of the dressing table, which was nearly as high as I was. Now I still like to look into the mirror. Only now, the dressing table is too low for me. As I bend down, I see the face of a young woman, glowing with maturity, confident in her future and fascinated with her own reflection.

The fact that I like to look into the mirror has to do with my granny with whom I spent most of my childhood. I remember clearly that one night I heard her murmuring, "Women can't be seen. Women can't be seen." I was so confused as to look into the mirror the next morning to check if I could indeed see myself. Only now as a young woman myself, can I understand that it was not physical visibility that granny had on her mind.

Granny spent all her life taking care of the family, day in and day out. She cooked for her husband and 10 children. But whenever guests came, she and other female family members had to eat by the stove in the small kitchen. At family discussions, she was never asked for her opinion. After grandpa passed away, she had to listen to my uncle, her eldest son, fulfilled her duty as daughter, wife, and mother; yet as a person, she remained little noticed. Even though she could see herself in the mirror of the dressing table, she was never visible in the mirror of society.

I have been living a different life. At home, I make decisions together with the rest of the family. In school, I often take charge of various activities the same as other boys and girls. Not only that, I can see something granny could not have dreamed of─making decisions for my own future. My life has been a series of decisions. I could choose from several universities as I came out of high school. At university, I could choose from a range of subjects from English literature to business law. And now upon graduation, I am again faced with decisions─to further my study or to go to work; to stay in China or to go abroad; to get married right away or to remain single for a bit longer.

It does not matter whether or not I will become famous or rich, but I will treasure the chance to demonstrate my potential and to help other women demonstrate theirs as full members of society, fully visible in the mirror of history. I will treasure it because the abundance of choice that I enjoy came only after decades of efforts made by my granny, my mum, and millions of other Chinese women.

However, the choices to be made by me and others of my generation are a great challenge. The misconception that men are superior to women is still dominating many people's minds. While men are encouraged to compete and to assert themselves, we are expected to be quiet, loyal and obedient. This is not very different from what is expected of us as good wives and good mothers. The challenge we face calls for a higher level of our personal development and self-determination.

The story of my grandmother and myself mirrors the lives of millions of other women in China and perhaps in the world. Many of them still lead the life of my grandmother. Their worth is not yet recognized. It is the responsibility of a young person like me to work hard and struggle hard so that they too will see themselves and will be seen in the mirror of society.

This is my dream. This dream, I believe, is not only shared by our grandmothers, mothers and sisters, but also by many of our fathers, brothers, husbands and male colleagues.

It will not come true until everyone fully realizes that women can contribute to society and should be guaranteed the right to do so. Women hold up half the sky.
